I don't know if you can get them on the west coast yet but the BEST avocados are the ones grown in Florida and a few places in the Carribean. They are larger with a smooth, lighter green skin. They are smooth and creamy inside without the stringiness that the Hass avocados can get. Sorry to the Hass devotees...

I grew up on 4 acres of avocado trees and never once did that! What a great idea! The only thing I have to add here, is that the avocado will probably turn brown on that spot after it is exposed to the air for a few hours - so don't freak out when you check it again at home and it looks brown.

Liz from Meal Makeover Moms here. Avocados are my favorite food in the world, and nothing ruins my day more than a brown or mushy one. Thanks for the terrific tip. I'll be sneaky so the grocery guy doesn't see me!
