Thanksgiving Prep: The Menu!


Time to bite the bullet and settle on a menu. I need to get my shopping started!

DINNER:
– Turkey
– Gravy
– Stuffing
– Mashed Potatoes
– Green Beans
– Squash OR Sweet potatoes
– 60-second brussel sprouts
– Cranberry sauce
– Butterhorn rolls OR Squash rolls
– Cranberry Slush

DESSERT:
– Chocolate Mousse
– Pumpkin Pie
– Apple Bavarian Torte

I will provide more details on my menu items over the next few days, including recipes. Until then, once you have YOUR menu planned, please share it with us! You may inspire me to switch it up a bit and you’ll certainly inspire one another!

    Starters: mini cups of Pumpkin soup and festive greens(it makes for an inviting and pretty table setting)

    Mains: Diestel Organic free-range Turkey (with the most divine herb and garlic rub)
    Mashed Potatoes
    Gravy with buttered button Mushrooms
    Corn Souffle
    Homemade stuffing
    Flaky Rosemary Rolls
    Peas (girls request)
    Some yummy veggie dish or two that I haven’t found yet (we have a couple vegetarians coming to dinner that day…any ideas?)
    Fresh cranberry sauce

    Finishers:
    Chocolate Pumpkin Torte
    Peach and Raspberry Pie

    Beverages: Sparkling Cranberry, sparkling water, herbal tea with dessert.

    simple, but delicious! you’ll be much less stressed than I…I just can’t ever decide what to eat, so I keep adding items to the list! 🙂

    I’m feeding a large crowd, so here goes! At least I will have my 2 moms and 2 sisters to help out!

    -Ham
    -Turkey breasts wrapped in bacon and grilled (delish!)
    -Creamy Mashed potatoes
    -Whipped sweet potatoes
    -Homemade rolls
    -Broccoli gratin (Everyday Food magazine recipe. so good!)
    -Sautéed green beans with garlic,onions, and a touch of balsamic
    -homemade cranberry sauce.
    -cornbread and pecan dressing
    -Baby green salad with candied almonds, green apples, blue cheese and homemade dressing

    Dessert:
    Pumpkin pie
    Trifle
    And something chocolate…. any suggestions?

    Our menu is the same every year because it is all the yummiest!

    Cheesy Hash Brown Casserole
    Seven Layer Salad
    Sweet Potato Casserole
    Stuffing

    Dinner Rolls

    Pumpkin Pie
    Pecan Pie
    Cookies

    Wine & Beer!

    I go completely traditional and one year my sister-in-law was at our house and said, “Oh, yes, we like traditional Thanksgiving dinners…with hesitation. When we sat down to eat our “traditional” meal her family ate with GUSTO!

    Turkey
    sage stuffing
    Mashed potatos
    gravy (my favorite part)
    cranberry salad (2nd favorite part)
    corn (husband insists)
    orange rolls
    cranberry relish (my Mom’s favorite)

    pumkin pie
    other desserts…

    I always trays of vegies and dip out all day long and by the end of the day I never have any left over. I also maked smoked salmon dip to go with chips (tortilla or pita)for snacking. We spend all evening eating orange rolls. I may do the sweet potato crock pot recipe that everyone loves but hardly qualifies as a vegetable.

    Well here is what I have so far:
    Roasted Turkey filled with celery, carrots and onions
    Stuffing
    Mashed (Maine) potatoes
    Butternut Squash with nutmeg, butter and splenda brown sugar
    Peas
    Honey Glazed Carrots
    Gravy (from local turkey farm – yum!)
    Whole and jellied cranberry sauces
    Squash rolls (pretty please, Pat!)
    Baked Apples and Sweet Potatoes
    Turnip (maybe just for Grampa, seeing he will be home – Yeah!)

    Desserts:
    Apple Pie
    Low-sugar Pumpkin Pie
    Pecan Pie
    Lemon Squares

    If I think of anything else (this should be enough!) I will post any additions. If anyone wants any of my veggie recipes – let me know and I will post them. (Jane you will have to tell me how!) ~ Auntie Kim

    Crnaberry slush!! I want that recipe! we’re having a Thanksgiving dinner with our friends on Saturday and will be blogging the whole thing. I believe one of my friends is making cranberry sorbet. Can’t wait!

    I’m only making a part of the meal this year, but here is the collective menu as I know it. (It is for 26 people.)
    Turkey (2 if them — one roasted, one brined & smoked)
    Gravy
    Stuffing
    mashed potatoes
    Sweet Potato (2 kinds — one candied, one souflé)
    Spinach salad
    peas
    buttery crescent rolls (these are amazing)
    Ambrosia fruit salad
    cranberry sauce
    a bunch of pies–pumpkin, lemon meringue, coconut cream, chocolate and more

  15. This is what we ended up having, and it was really good.

    Turkey in a roaster
    gravy
    mashed potatoes
    orange glazed carrots
    canned corn(as requested by our 2 year old)
    green beans w/ butter(any good recipes for these for next year?)
    cranberry sauce
    My stuffing recipe(shiitake and crimini mushrooms, w/ walnuts and apples)
    sweet potatoes w/ coconut from Not Your Mother’s Slow Cooker Cookbook(these were EXTRAORDINARY)
    I forgot what else…sad since it was only yesterday
