This is going to be an easy week to gear up for Christmas.

Monday and Tuesday are leftovers days – we have TONS to eat up in our fridge!

Wednesday – Spaghetti and Meatballs, salad, garlic bread

    Thursday – Christmas!
Turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, cheesy pineapple casserole, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, yeast rolls. Plus our new favorite cranberry cheesecake and maybe a cherry berry pie.

After that, I’m letting someone else do the cooking!

    Merry Christmas to all!

Monday – chicken & dumplings, green beans

Tuesday – macaroni goulash (w/ground beef, tomatoes, more like stewy than saucy), salad on side

Wednesday – we also do the appetizer thing for Christmas eve! I’ll put a roast beef in the crock pot and have buttery noodles and red cabbage for ‘early dinner,’ then we’ll do shrimp cocktail, cheese & crackers, olives & pickles, etc after church.

Thursday – everyone coming to my house and bringing something, more for lunchtime than dinner. I’ll put a turkey breast in the oven but that’s it (I am 36 weeks pregnant after all, there should be a perk or two!)

Friday – leftovers, sandwich buns and maybe sloppy joe’s

Saturday – having a bunch of friends in who are bringing pizza & salad (YES!)

Sunday – my side of the family will do our traditional ham dinner – this is usually on Christmas but not everyone will be here until the weekend. This includes spiral-cut ham, ham gravy (I tsk-tsk all you ‘glaze’ fans with ham, you’re missing the best gravy in the entire world … my dad makes ours and I could just swim in it!), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberries … yum I can just smell it now!

All the best to everyone for many blessings over the coming week.

    Merry Christmas!
Here is my first attempt at a menu for the week (subject to change).
Monday – Mexican Chicken with brown rice, corn and broccoli.
Tuesday – Breakfast for dinner – pancakes or waffles
Wednesday – Carando Spiral sliced ham, glazed, mashed potatoes, peas, green bean casserole, snowflake rolls and of course Christmas cookies for dessert.
Thursday – I serve Christmas brunch, with a ham and cheese strata, maple sausages, mimosas, scrambled eggs, and perhaps a sweet dish like baked french toast. Later in the day its a deli platter and salad – real simple!
    Friday – left overs
Saturday – Hamburgers and French Fries
Sunday – Something in the crock pot.
    Happy New Year everyone!

My favorite holiday food tradition is Christmas morning, my mother made Apple Puffed Pancake: essentially lots of melted butter, apple slices, and fatty doughy batter poured over it all, baked. Eaten with sour cream or maple syrup. It makes the whole house smell divine. I carried on the tradition. That reminds me – I’d better get to the store and get the ingredients!

  14. we do chinese take-out on Christmas eve too!!!

    Happy New Year 🙂
