Cookie Dough 101 Pop Quiz Part 2

If you failed the last Cookie Dough 101 Pop Quiz, now’s your chance to redeem yourself.

What is the very best thing to do with leftover cookie dough?
A. Bake it all at once.
B. Eat it all
B. Put in the fridge for future bakinig.
C. Make individual balls, freeze them on a baking sheet, then put in a ziploc freezer bag for future baking.

If you answered A…did you learn nothing from the last Pop Quiz?

If you answered B…I like how you think.

If you answered C…you learned from the last quiz.  Good job.  Half credit will be granted.

If you answered D…you are a cookie genius.

After the last quiz, many of you suggested D.  I kind of thought it seemed like a pain, but I’ve learned the error of my ways.  Seriously, making up the balls and freezing them RULES.  The dough lasts longer in the freezer and it is SO EASY just to through a few cookie dough balls on a sheet and pop them in the oven.  Actually, maybe too easy…let’s not think about how many cookies I bake how often.  Anyway…thank you all for the advice.

There IS one drawback to freezing the dough…you can’t sneak bites of dough out of the fridge throughout the day.  Okay, maybe that’s a benefit…

    Maybe we shouldn’t tell you how good frozen cookie balls are. Especially the chocolate chip kind. I hate to admit it but sometimes we eat more frozen cookie dough than baked cookies. :)

    Frozen dough is one of my favorites–kind of like cookie dough ice cream, but without all the ice cream that gets in the way :)

    My husband begs to differ…I will freeze two dozen cookie balls and by the time I want to bake them, there are only one dozen left.

    hi emma – that’s a good question! hmmm…I’m a little obsessed with chocolate chip cookies and have a few FAVORITE recipe, so I don’t know which recipe this dough is from! I’ll do some digging in my recipe box and see what I can find. :)

    I do this sometimes (including snacking on frozen cookie dough…) but when I go to bake the cookies, they never turn out as good as fresh. Is there a right way to do it? Do you put the balls on a cookie sheet and let them thaw first? Do you put the bag of cookie balls in the fridge and let them thaw first? Do you have to adjust the temp on the oven? I just haven’t found a good way to make the cookies look and taste as good as fresh ones, so in my mind, I’m better off eating the dough anyways!

    now, THAT is an interesting comment, kelly, because honestly my cookies are BETTER after the dough has been frozen. There was a NY Times article about the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe, and they said to have the best cookies the dough needs to refrigerate or freeze for a few days first. When I read that I was like, YES! Mine ARE better after freezing or refrigerating.

    SOOOO….I don’t know WHAT to say! :) I don’t thaw my dough first, I go straight from freezer to oven. One trick I recently learned is when you take the cookies out of the oven, bang the cookie sheet hard on the top of the stove…to get the cookies to collapse. Maybe that will help?

    I also bake my chocolate chip cookies at 325 for around 15 minutes instead of 350…maybe that might make a difference?

    Does anyone else have the same problem or a solution?

    I also enjoy microwaving a couple of dough balls – just long for it to get gooey and the chips to melt, but before it’s cakey. It’s fantastic!
