As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a sweet grapefruit junky. Nate went to the farmer’s market last weekend and discovered my new favorite grapefruit variety: Oroblanco. It’s actually a cross between a grapefruit and a pommelo…and what a DELICIOUS cross it is. Sweet, not as acidic, milder in flavor.
It’s also huge. I photographed the oroblanco (yellow) next to a normal sized grapefruit, a navel orange and a ‘cutie’ just to give some perspective on the ‘giantness’ of this grapefruit. The rind was really thick, so the actual fruit yield was about the same as any other grapefruit.
Anna just couldn’t resist being a part of the big photo shoot.

I’m missing the California produce. I tried an orblanco once, it was from a neighbor’s tree in AZ. SO tasty.

I hate to tell you this but… My brother has an overabundance of these growing on his property. He brought about four large grocery bags over a couple of weeks ago and we ate ourselves grapefruit silly! Wish I could send you a few!

Sunday – We did do the ham and also a pot roast, funeral potatoes, rolls, broccoli, green beans, a yummy baked cranberry sauce with orange marmalade made from Seville oranges bought in a can at Williams Sonoma and toasted walnuts….did you get all that. Spinach salad and a kiwi cheesecake from Costco. (16 people)
We gave lots of leftovers to family but…
Monday – leftovers
Tuesday – leave for Disneyland – eat whatever!!
Saturday night – arrive home and will bring some Trader Joe’s stuff (WHAT ARE THE THINGS TO GET AT TJ’s?)
Sunday again – I have some fish in the freezer and we will probably put it on the barby!

I love this grapefruit. We have a tree in our backyard with so many, does anyone have a good recipe for the oroblanco? Thank you for your help
