Salt & Pepper

I’m feeling pretty passionate about my salt and pepper lately. So I think I need to tell you about it.

First, I’m loving kosher salt. I love the coarser texture it has versus table salt and, unlike a salt grinder, I don’t break my hand getting enough to use in recipes. I’ve been using it in almost everything I’ve been cooking lately.

Second, and you need to listen carefully, Penzey’s Freshly Ground Pepper rocks the spice world. Seriously. I haven’t used my pepper grinder since I got this stuff. Sounds crazy, right? Maybe…but the flavor is just so good.

That’s all for today. Happy seasoning!

  1. Once I went to Kosher salt, I never went back. Plus I love that I can keep it in a cute little container on my counter and just reach into it as needed! The pepper sounds like a must try!

I am actually making my way through the pepper-mill sampler from Penzey’s. Darn good pepper. I don’t think I could switch to not grinding though. I feel you can taste the difference in intensity. I mostly use Kosher salt too, though for some things I have some sea salt on hand.

I know, I know…no one’s going to believe me that this has replaced grinding pepper for me…it REALLY is super flavorful, I don’t know how they do it! :)

    penzey’s is just awesome, right?

I thought that I was the only one that gave up freshly ground pepper for “Penzey’s grind” :) Nice to know that I am not alone.

I use Kosher salt in everything and have for years! There’s nothing like it. I’ll have to look into finding Penzey’s and try it.

Have you tried Mediterranean sea salt yet? The different colored varieties? They’re these delicious little flakes that melt on your tongue… oh gosh, I’m salivating just thinking about it! Whenever I’m in Spain I bring some back. Sprinkled on tomato mush made from straight from the garden tomatoes, a little drizzle of olive oil, a bit of crushed garlic, on toasted chibatta – oh my word!

Okay – I gotta go find some to buy!

And yes – totally get it!

I think they have several colors of the Mediterranean salt at Trader Joes (I’m pretty sure that’s where I saw some.)

I’ll have to try the pepper.

  8. I’ve been wanting to blog about Penzey’s forever now. Every time I pull one of their jars from my spice, I basically want to sing out loud about how much I love them. But I’ve never tried their pepper, so thanks for the idea!
