Easter Candy

EmailPinterest37Facebook2Twitter1Google+0StumbleUpon0

I think Easter candy is the best kind of candy. Those terrible, ooey-gooey Cadbury cream eggs? For some truly strange reason I love them. Or how about the big egg-shaped Reese’s peanut butter cups? Yum!

The crown jewel of Easter candy is, of course, the Cadbury Mini Egg. I remember digging through my Easter basket as a kid, looking for those dull-textured, speckled eggs with little tiny cracks in the shell. They were the Easter jackpot!

This little photo shoot was pretty much torture for Anna. She just couldn’t keep her little hand out of the candy jar…and who can blame her, really?

What’s your favorite Easter candy? Or do you think there is another time of year with better confectionary options? I don’t know if I can be convinced of that, but you can try.

  1. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I really look forward to Peeps! There is something about the sugar-crisp coating and chewy marshmallow. I only get one box (it’s about all I can handle of the sweet). But it sure is good.

My favorite Easter candy without a doubt, is the Cadbury Mini Eggs! LOVE THEM! Close second… egg shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. mmmmm! Peeps, not so much, blah.

I recently discovered the Reese’s eggs and I love them!!! I also am a big fan of Starburst jelly beans. Everything else I could pass on….too sugary or something, or maybe I overdosed as a child!

Oh Mini Eggs!! I have a magic secret for you. Put a few mini eggs in the microwave for a bit (you’ll have to experiment — 30-40 seconds maybe). The inside gets warm and melty and the shell stays hard. It’s such a surprise for your mouth.

    It’s pretty great.

  5. I’m a lifelong Cadbury Creme Egg fan. In fact, I just bought some on my grocery trip this morning despite the fact that we have chocolate chip cookies on hand AND I made whoopie pies when we got home AND I’m making a flourless chocolate cake tomorrow. For some reason these details didn’t prevent me from picking up some creme eggs. :-)

  6. I absolutely love the Robin’s Egg Whoppers. YUM! I also love Peeps, slightly stale.

I had never seen cadbury mini eggs until I was an adult and now I can’t get enough of them. I also LOVE sweetart jellybeans!

Childhood memories of huge (bigger than a soda can) handmade peanut butter eggs (creamy PB with chunks of peanuts) with a thick chocolate shell decorated with sugar flowers and my name written on it…and I’d eat one slice at a time until all that was left were tiny crumbs of PB and chocolate…the shop was local and has since closed.

Definitely Cadbury Creme Eggs – and the orange ones, too. Mmmmm.

If these mini-eggs are the ones that stained your lips crazy colors, then my vote was definitely for them…

is it horrible to admit that as a kid I got pretty excited about PEEPS too :)

The large cadbury eggs were toooo sweet for me though.

actually…Robin’s Eggs are the magical lipstick chocolate eggs – I can’t believe I forgot about them, but several of you mentioned those, and I may have to introduce my daughters to the ritual this year :)

This time of year has THE best jelly beans! They are just way more flavorful than your regular ole jelly. Also, I LOVE Robin’s Eggs…yummmmmmmmy!!!! :-)

Peeps are scary gross. Reese’s mini PB cups and peanut M&Ms are good at Easter and all year through! Also York peppermint patties! Yum!

  13. See’s rockyroad egg, cadbury cream eggs, and the little maltbally eggs (robin’s eggs?)!

This overly cold winter has had me addicted to drowning peeps
in hot cocoa! It started with the snowmen at Christmas then bunnies appeared and now it’s the cute yellow chicks floating in cocoa.

Cadbury cream eggs are my all time favorite. I saw they have a mini version now, I haven’t tried it yet, but I bet the big ones are still better :)

  16. I love the Cadbury eggs too, but my all time favorite for many years has been the Reese’s peanut butter egg!

  17. I LOVE those mini eggs, one of my mission companion introduced them to me, and I haven’t been able to stop since. Though my sister and I still really dig the gummy candies with sprinkles on them.

  18. Nobody else seems to like them, and I know they’re chock full of corn syrup, gelatin, and generally lots of artificial yuck, but I grew up eating them: Brach’s Chicks and Rabbits. (They’re made out of the same stuff as circus peanuts.)

    • Jane Maynard

I used the circus peanuts for cate’s birthday cake this year…that flavor brings back memories! one of the little girls could not stop eating them, it was so funny. must have been a mini-you. ;)

    chocolate covered marshmallow eggs…hands down.

I’m so boring when it comes to candy. I’m happiest with plain M&M’s and Snickers. Don’t hate me but I think those candy covered chocolate eggs are nasty. :X Hubby likes to devour a HUGE chocolate bunny Easter morning.

Ha ha – I haven’t seen these in ages. When we were little, we played a trick on my dad and put one in the bottom of our parakeet’s cage. Good times.

  22. I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed. I was hoping to scroll down your blog post to find an amazingly clever recipe for the candy in your awesome pictures. Boo hoo! Let’s all agree though, it probably for the best that there wasn’t a recipe because if there were I’d be eating those right now instead of the roasted peanuts I’m currently consuming by the handfull. Gotta look on the positive side right?
As for my fav Easter candy. I like the sweet tart brand Gummi Bunnies. I grabbed a bag at Target last year and finished it off before the 15 minute car ride home was over.

I just posted on my blog about my favorite easter candy! Go check it out at tomatoesontoast2.blogspot.com :D I LOVE easter candy! YUMMO!

  24. Oh my, how to make a choice, but I do agree 100% – Easter candy is definitely the best!
My favourite would be the chocolate eggs with the hard white coating and the chocolate covered marshmallow eggs.

I love Easter candy, and definitely the Valentine’s candy too. Right now I’m in love with the little Russel Stover’s Chocolate Nest…. it’s basically just chocolate and coconut. Yum!!

    Jane Maynard

I’m so glad I did this post…you all have reminded me of some candy I haven’t had in years! AND…I love the memories and stories. like the egg in the bird cage. ha ha!

    keep it coming!!! :)

  27. I love the Hershey’s large milk chocolate eggs with candy coating. I could seriously eat an entire bag!

Sour Patch jelly beans! And I don’t even really like Sour Patch Kids, but something about the jelly beans… The day after Valentine’s, I literally start stalking our local Walgreen’s and Target looking for them. Since Easter is so late this year, Target put out their candy later than normal- I’m pretty sure one of the store clerks who saw me every time I stopped by thought I was casing the joint for a mass robbery or something!

    Mawa

The best eggs for coloring lips are the big malt balls with pastel candy coating… I remember them from my childhood which was much longer ago than yours Jane.

PEEPS! I know they should be too sweet but a peep that has been out in the air for oh – about a day – so it is just a bit hard, is absolutely the BEST!

Pastel M&M’S – what would Easter be without these?

When I think about Easter candy though – it really is so sweet but those things from your childhood just never quit calling….

    Happy Easter!

I discovered Sweet Tart Jellybeans last year, heaven help me. I need an intervention. To both my sorrow and relief, they seem to only be available at Easter time.

    Sam

    Mini eggs-YUM!

  32. 32
    Tamara

Most definitely the Reese’s peanut butter eggs. The full-size ones — the small ones just don’t have the right ratio of pb to chocolate. I was so happy when they started having these for every holiday. After Easter though is the big drought. You have to wait until Halloween until they appear again.

    Christine

There is something incredibly satisfying about the first bite of a full-size Reese’s peanut butter egg, taken from the point. The mini Cadbury eggs are a close second. I keep a bag in my car for emergencies. Oh, and Nerds bumpy jelly beans. I love Easter!

    Sue

Cadbury caramel mini eggs!! It’s hard not to eat them all at once(after tall, they are mini). And, let’s not forget Peeps dipped in Baker’s dipping chocolate! I agree Jane, that Easter has the best candy!

  35. 35
    annie

I love the pic of your little one with her hand in the candy jar! Too cute. I bought a bag of starburst jellybeans so I could use the green ones around a cake I made for my sons 12th birthday…baseball cake, green represented grass…I know coconut colored green would have given the look I was going for, but coconut? I just finished off the entire bag of jelly beans!!

    Corinne

Definitely Cadbury Mini Eggs. I’m off to the store now to buy some for the kiddos Easter baskets. I’m worried they’ll all be gone. I have bought probably 5 bags of those since they hit the stores but haven’t managed to save any!! Oops.
I grew up in Australia and I must say I remember the Easter chocolate being so much better (of course, that could just be because it was childhood). You’ll have to take a trip down there and see for yourself! The only thing is, Easter is in the Autumn there!
