Well…today’s my due date. And this baby is still cooking. And he still doesn’t have a name. So, nothing much new around here! (P.S. People started sharing name ideas with their menus…and, yes, name suggestions are welcome! We need all the help we can get!)

My dad arrived yesterday. Such a relief – if I go into labor in the middle of the night, we have someone here to take care of the girls. Phew! Last night he helped me cut up some melon. As he was cutting he said, “So, do I get a mention on the blog now?” So, here’s his big shout out. Good job, Dad.
Here is my total non-menu menu for the week. I’m just hoping that one of these days has hospital food on the menu!
MONDAY:
- Rachel Sandwiches
TUESDAY:
- Frozen pizza
WEDNESDAY:
- Rubio’s
THURSDAY:
- Pancakes
FRIDAY:
- The girls have a pizza party, adults fend for themselves
SATURDAY:
- Eat out
SUNDAY:
- Grandma’s in town! Maybe she’ll rustle something up…or maybe we’ll just eat out again.
For real. We NEED your menus now. I am no inspiration whatsoever. Please share what you’ve got cooking for the week!

Good luck this week. Hopefully it’ll be quick and um….painless. : )
You trust your husband to do the grocery shopping?!!??!
No, not really, but our grocery store is about 20 minutes away, and it’s huge, and I can hardly waddle around at this point. He does a pitiful job, but as long as we have milk, cereal, eggs, bread, and cheese we can survive.
Best of luck with your baby delivery. I have a newborn myself along with my 3 other children under the age of 5 so I’m all about simple dinners. And as a name suggestion. We were going to name our 4th Jason Thomas but we had a girl so no need for the name.

Jane,
I am a frequent reader of your great blog but an infrequent commenter. Like others, I just wanted to wish you the very best with a quick and healthy delivery! I have never posted a menu because it’s just my husband and myself and we eat a lot of leftovers, and we also cook based on mood more than planning due to having the luxury of time that so many parents seem to lack. Also, we are vegetarian so probably not very enticing menu ideas for a lot of your readers. But here goes, in honor of your special circumstances. (I make no guarantees that I’ll stick to anything beyond tonight’s meal.)
Sun: end of summer farmer’s market vegs: roasted beets & sauteed greens with caramelized onions, feta and pistachios, caprese salad, corn on the cob
Mon: quesadillas with zucchini, corn, and chilis; green salad w/cranberries, almonds, feta
Tue: corn, zucchini, and chili pancakes with caprese salad
Wed: beer, cheese, and potato soup (from freezer); green salad
Thur: frozen pierogis, salad, bread and cheese (long day so food must be easy…)
Fri: pasta w/leftover vegs or tofu/veg stir fry over noodles???
Sat. roasted polenta, corn, and zucchini-stuffed chili peppers with homemade beans; salad (dinner guest coming over)
Sun: leftovers!!!
Again, very best with things this week. Your readers will miss you while you are taking some time off from the blog.
My
P.S. I forgot to mention that the local apple harvest where I live is in and some of them are just begging to become your Bavarian apple torte for dessert next weekend. I love that. It is all I can do to not bake one up tonight and then make another one next Sat. I have 10# of fresh honey crisp apples, which is as good an excuse as any, I’d think.

Boy names are soooo hard! I’m 30 weeks and we are between Eli and Benjamin…leaning towards Eli though!
We have an Eli! He is 17 months old and such an Eli! People constantly ask us how we picked the name Eli? We just liked it and thought it was different. We now hear of and meet Eli’s all over the place!
I have a Ray – not a Raymond- just Ray named after his great grandfather.
I love Jack though and because we lost a good friend name Jack I would choose
that IF it were me that was pregnant. But since I am 47 that ain’t gonna happen.
Best wishes to you and your family.

doesn’t look like much cooking this week!!!!!!
Hey, Jane. I’m wishing you all the best this week and many, many wishes for an easy labor. I agree with the masses that girl names are easier to pick than boy names. Here are some we’ve kicked around: Mason, Miles, Dexter, Oscar, Rowan, Layne/Lane, Jasper, and Kieran. By the way, we tried a version of your Italian Chicken Panini Pizza this week. Amazing!! We used a homemade garlic balsamic vinaigrette as the base and some leftover grilled chicken on a whole wheat honey crust with fresh veggies from the farmer’s market. We cannot wait to try it again. Here’s what we are having this week:
Sunday: Homemade veggie soup with whole wheat cornbread (plus 2 Tbs honey)
Monday: Black eyed peas, collard greens, and leftover cornbread
Tuesday: Leftover soup and cornbread
Wednesday: BFD: blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit salad
Thursday: Chicken souvlaki, herbed couscous, and roasted brussel sprouts
Friday: Leftovers
Saturday: Leftovers or out to eat (or maybe another pizza!)
No menu to post since I always shop for 2 weeks worth of food and just make whatever I have ingredients for, depending on how busy our day is (which is always busy with football, baseball, gymnastics, piano lessons, boy scouts, homework, etc…). Had to wish you best of luck this week! I have 3 boys – Eli James, Mason William, and Deven Peter. So, those are the names I would suggest.
I also love Jerren or Jaren (however you want to spell it). What you need to do is plan a big, long “to do” list that you can’t wait to start crossing off and that’s when you will go into labor! Sending you easy labor vibes…
Hope you get to meet you little guy this week. I’m not much help with boys names since we have two daughters and five granddaughters. New baby on the way in March, sex not known until next month, but if it should be a boy, we will have a Zachary Steven. Looking forward to pictures of your adorable little ones.

We are also having a boy in about 8 weeks. Here are some names on our list. Boy names are hard. Tyler, Cole, Chase, Evan, Taylor, Ryan, Devon, Micah, Miles, Wes, Jude. Right now we’re leaning toward Cole. We’ll see….
If my last name weren’t ‘Arnett,’ I would name a son Rhett. My MILs maiden name is Hamilton, and that would be his middle name–Rhett Hamilton, sounds so distinguished. Since we couldn’t have Rhett Arnett. We went with Jace. I have a Jace Hamilton.

Hopefully you have a wonderful birth this week!
That was supposed to be a comma in the end there. I hate typos and sentence fragments. After reading all the other boy name suggestions, I should mention that my other son is Lincoln Joseph. I really like his name too. =) And hubby is Gavin. Incidentally, I went out with him initially b/c I liked his name. I originally wanted a Gavin Jr., but Gavin Sr. didn’t. =)

Tues – Meatloaf & mashed potatoes

I love all your recipes! It’s hard sometimes to get my almost 2 1/2 yo to eat anything green, and its nice to try your “kid approved” meals
As far as names go, I’m a rebel against the -aiden trend (braydon, caydon, aiden, jayden etc). I was always one of many Sara(h)s growing up, so name popularity was a big factor for me. The classics are really underused right now. I like John, Matthew, Ryan and Brian, and my son’s name is Kyle Alexander. We live in Holland as well, and some Dutch names that I really like are Jaap, Pim, Lucas, Lennert, and Bram.
I’m not much of a meal planner, but we’re doing Chili on Saturday for the bf’s birthday. Good luck with your labor!!! You know by now there is only one way proven to speed things along
I agree with the classic names! My son’s 3rd grade (Catholic school) class consists of a Joseph, Matthew, Mark, John, Thomas and Luke
My son is Cameron James. I’d loved the name since I first heard it in high school and was finally able to use it on my third child fifteen years later.

Tuesday: Crockpot chicken tacos

Hopefully by the time you are perusing all of the above delicious suggestions you will – as you wish – be dining on hospital food. In the event that you aren’t, I shall tip my menu onto the growing pile for your family to consider (you should be reclining with your feet up!)
Monday: Slow-cooked Moroccan Lamb Tagine with Prunes and Chickpeas (posting soon)

Very best wishes for you and all your family.

This is not a menu but I noticed a lot of people roast chicken on Sunday and use the leftovers for items throughout the week. Sunday is the one day I can get everyone to sit down together so I like to have a “Sunday dinner.” This Sunday I roasted a bunch of chicken breasts (everybody wants white meat). I served them with roasted potatoes, green beans and TJ’s par-baked dinner rolls. After dinner I shredded the extra chicken and put it in the fridge. Later in the week it goes great in Enchiladas Verde (I use Desert Pepper green salsa, some cream, cheese, scallions); a quick chicken soup (my kids love it with chinese noodles so I put a little toasted sesame oil in the grownups’ bowls) and a myriad of other things like thrown in with pad thai or heated up with black beans, salsa and cheese and thrown on a salad or tortilla or tossed into a simple garlic oil spaghetti number. Obviously, there is a limit to how much chicken one wants to eat but my picky eaters will always eat it.
I dont have a menu this week because 2 day is my due date and we are just winging it.we r having a surprise this time. if it is a boy we dont have a name picked out either! hope all goes well with your labor and delivery! wonder who will go in 2 labor 1st.

Once again, good luck!!!

Had a delicious chili last night that slow cooked all day when I was working and was ready for consumption when I got home.
2 cans petite diced tomatoes
2 cans pinto beans in chili sauce (mild)
1 can tomato sauce (chili-style)
2 pounds group beef (although next time I’m going to try chicken or bison meat which would be healthier)
1 onion (food processed so my hubby didn’t crunch into one!)
3-4 garlic cloves, pressed
5 tsp chili powder
3 tsp ground cumin
1/2 water (or more depending on how thick you like it)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Super easy and super delicious! Served with cornbread…
Name suggestions — it’s so personal that it’s hard to give suggestions. But my sons are Liam John and Patrick Daniel. Liam and Patrick because we like the names, John for my hubby and my dad, Daniel for my sister (Danielle).
I know you’re of Swedish origin, though, and one name I was pushing for a while was Morgan — my Swedish great-uncle is Morgan John. Dunno if that helps, but we didn’t use it, so I’m passing it along!
first…thank you for all the great menus and recipes!
second…thank you for sharing all your favorite names, especially when they mean so much to you! what a lovely group of people you are. we are loving having this marvelous list to read through and think about!!!!
Jane…Sorry I don’t have a menu to share but I couldn’t resist suggesting a few boy names for your little man…I love the names Blake, or Jackson, or Gabrial (Gabe!). You’ll know when you see his sweet face! Blessings to you and your family
