New Sandwich Flavor: Turkey Sandwich with Cranberry and Cream Cheese

EmailPinterest80Facebook19Twitter1Google+0StumbleUpon507

Today I want to simply share a great flavor combination I recently discovered (just like the apple bacon pizza).

We’ve all had the classic turkey and cranberry sandwich so you may be thinking I’ve got nothing new for you today. But I do. Bear with me. We’ve been eating at Cafe Borrone fairly regularly lately, and right now tomatoes are in season, which means that I order their amazing basil melt every time I go. But the other day I finally got a little tired of it. (I didn’t think that was possible!)

One of the “regulars” on their menu is a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce, sprouts and cream cheese on a sweet baguette. I was kind of in the mood so I ordered it. And…it’s my new favorite. I really like the addition of sprouts. But what I really love is the cream cheese combined with the turkey and cranberry sauce. SO good.

So, here’s the “recipe.” And, unlike the basil melt and many other items at Cafe Borrone that I will forever be trying to replicate, this is one you can easily recreate at home!

  1. Slap it all together and eat! YUM!

Sounds GOOD! I was in desperate need of a new lunch idea, and I think this will be the ticket! Thanks for sharing ;)

  2. I do a similar thing for tea sandwiches at showers. I mix raspberry jam with cream cheese and pair it with ham. It’s so delicious…a little salty from the ham and a little sweet from the raspberry cream cheese. It’s one of those yummy combinations like coffee and chocolate.

This looks soooo good!!! Kinda like sausage and egg on homeade biscuits with grape jelly – something you wouldn’t think of until you visited a real farm in Idaho. ;)

We were in Palo Alto for 1 day. I was so looking forward to trying Cafe Borrone out (thanks to your amazing posts)… but it was closed! So sad :(

  6. My mom used to make these for us on bagels. Yum!

Have not tried this combo with cream cheese, but turkey, cranberry and Brie? Hello! We also do that combo on a pizza, with cranberry as the base in lieu of tomato sauce. It sounds odd, but works!

This reminds me of the sandwich I had from the Willows market in Menlo Park. The Atherton Cranky Turkey. Turkey, brie, cranberry sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo on a roll. The turkey, brie, and cranberry are incredible together.

P.S. I heard of your website through Jen Covert Mosinski (we went to high school together). I live in Santa clara but work at the Menlo Park School District so it’s fun to see you write about local markets, local food experiences, etc.

everyone who lives in the willows keeps talking about that market…I think I might need to stop in sometime!

so glad Jen sent you to my blog, she’s the best, eh? :) thanks for working in our school district – we love the schools here so much!!! :)

    Angie .

Jane – it’s funny. My fiance really dislikes cranberry anything… that is, until he had this lovely cranberry-infused cheese last week. I’m totally going to make this sandwich for him and not tell him about the cranberry to see how he reacts – b/c I know I’m going to LOVE it! Thanks for sharing, as always!!

I am sitting on my couch in Southern Indiana. I was looking at Pinterest and saw Cafe Borrone. I lived in Palo Alto for years and we would go to Cafe “Boyrrone”. We called it that because of all the cute boy waiters. Thanks for making me smile today. I miss the Bay Area:)

    • ha ha! that is so funny! :) thanks for making me smile today, too! and I bet you miss the bay area…I am really trying to soak it up and appreciate it while we live here!

Jane – I love easy recipes like this one. I need some quick fix lunch for work days and this is going to my lunch one of the days next week. So simple. Loving it.

I was using the leftovers form our dinner the other night for lunch today, and as I was making my sandwich, I was so pleased with out simple and easy it was to throw together…and, as always, super delicious! hope you love it as much as I do!
