Whenever I want to cook something I haven’t cooked before, I pull out three cookbooks: The Joy of Cooking, How to Cook Everything and The America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook. I look up the item in all three books, read through the recipes, then either just use one of them straight up (always to great success) or learn techniques from these books and do my own thing. I love these books. They never fail me. They have made me the cook I am today. They are my go-to cookbooks that I couldn’t live without!
Well, I’ve added a fourth book to the list. I didn’t think that would ever happen, but it has! The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook has officially made it to my go-to cookbook list.

A few weeks ago I had the chance to meet with a few of the folks from America’s Test Kitchen, including Lori Galvin, executive editor in charge of books…i.e. she worked really hard on my new favorite cookbook. I had a lovely time chatting with them and am enamored with the test kitchens even more than I was before. (P.S. I totally want a job there. Constant taste testing. Heaven, right?)
Yesterday a big, heavy box arrived on my doorstep. I opened it and there was a note from Steph thanking me for spending the evening with them. The note was tucked inside my very own copy of The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook. I immediately started reading through the book. This thing is AWESOME. Such a fantastic, trustworthy resource filled with wonderful, not-often-obvious tips. I am so happy to have this book!

Of course I asked if I could share a copy with you, and America’s Test Kitchen happily obliged! One of you will receive a copy of The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook as well as a 1-year subscription to CooksIllustrated.com, yet another amazing cooking resource. All you need to do is add a comment to this post by Midnight PT on Monday, March 19. The randomly-selected winner will be announced on March 20.
Your comment can be anything, but if you want to make it interesting, share your favorite America’s Test Kitchen or Cook’s Illustrated recipe, or your favorite go-to cookbook(s)! We may as well share some good info with one another!
And if you’re looking for even more America’s Test Kitchen inspiration, be sure to check out The Feed. It’s really cool.

Good luck with the giveaway!

Hello! My name is Jane Maynard and you've landed yourself on my blog, This Week for Dinner™. Every Sunday I share a weekly menu...and then count on you to share your own! You'll also find other deliciousness that I hope you'll enjoy!

these guys settle all cooking argument/discussions….
I have NEVER looked at these resources before…neither of them! Sounds like I need to get enlightened! Thanks, Jane!
Cooks Illustrated is fantastic! It take all the hard work and guessing out of cooking!
We love CI and have found it to be so useful! What a cool cookbook it must be!!
my go to cookbook is the “food” section on my google reader!
Cooks Illustrated has LOOOOOOONG been my fool-proof recipe and gadget resource. They really understand food chemistry. Best never to deviate from their recipes as they’ve already tried every possible combination before settling on the perfect system for producing perfect results. Would love to own this perty cookbook. Regardless, love your blog, Jane.
My go to cookbooks are my stacks and stacks of everday food magazines and tons of recipes printed from the web of course!
I tried my first Cook’s Illustrated recipe last summer and loved it! It was a vegetarian pasta dish with a white wine/pesto sauce. Yum! Would love a whole book of such dishes!
I love their chicken with 40 cloves of garlic. Yummy! I love cook’s illustrated so much!
I love ATK’s Family Cookbook! I’ve been using so many of their recipes and they’re successes every time! I just made their pancakes and they were delicious!
I’ve been cooking with the “what’s in cupboard” method for so long that I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to follow a recipe. Learning techniques is just what I need to do since I just recently rediscovered how to hard-boil an egg correctly!
I love their Raspberry Chocolate Torte. It’s restaurant quality and really not too much work. Super good!
My go to cookbook is Swedish “Bonniers Kokbok” and my sister gave it to me 19 years ago:) Love it!
I have never used one of their cookbooks, but for Christmas my mom gave me on their magazine versions that is smaller. It took forever to get it away from the hubs. He is an engineer and was loving the diagrams and explanations on everything!
I really like my older America’s Test Kitchen cookbook & would LOVE to win the Cook’s Illustrated one
LOVE both CI and ATK. In particular, I love their healthified versions of enchiladas and other yummy dishes.
I would LOVE a copy of this book since I believe it is never too late to become a better cook.
Thanks!!
I would just like to win this so I could have a subscription to cooks illustrated. I’ve looked longingly through friends copies, but never had them myself. Thanks for the chance to win.
I saw this cookbook on AM Northwest and have wanted to get one for my own! I tried their recipe called The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie and it is now my families favorite!
I love America’s test kitchen. I make so many recipes from the magazines. My latest favorite is the Weeknight Roast chicken. One hour and a delicious chicken, and the pan sauce is great too!.
I would love to own this fantastic cookbook…..thank you for the chance to win!
I am trying to cook more, so this would be great!
I’d love to add to my cookbooks. I usually just look online, but I’d love to have a tried and true cookbook like this!
Oh! How a new cookbook will fill the void when my first born shuffles off the college in September…and would surely seal the deal that he will return, repeatedly!
I love Cooks Illustrated!! I found the worlds best blueberry muffin recipe in one of their magazines.
Drop biscuits!! Perfect every time (love the melted butter technique)
Brownies….a family member that doesn’t cook nearly as much as I do gave me the recipe and at the time introduced me to Cook’s Illustrated. I don’t often prefer semisweet chocolate to milk chocolate but YUM! And I check out the Cook’s Illustrated now and then. What a great cookbook, though!
I love Cook’s Illustrated. Pick Me!
I would love a new cookbook! I need new ideas!
I would love a new “go-to” cookbook! I am currently a little burnt out of meal planning, because I feel like I make the same meals every week and I am pregnant with our first little one, so fresh Ideas would be marvelous!
) Thanks for this giveaway Jane!
Nice! Even if I don’t win I’m going to buy it!
I love their Chocolate Sour Cream Bundt Cake!
Pasta With Garlic Oil and Toasted Breadcrumbs is one of my favorite recipes from Cook’s Illustrated.
Thanks for the giveaway!
we love cook’s illustrated!
My Better Homes and Gardens book is well worn. I also like Everyday Food magazine. I have heard many good things about this cookbook, so thanks for the giveaway!
I love Cook’s Illustrated and would have a lot of fun cooking in the kitchen with a new cook book
