Trader Joe’s Obsessions of the Day

EmailPinterest15Facebook0Twitter2Google+0StumbleUpon0

I try not to mention Trader Joe’s too often for two reasons. First, they’re not paying me. Second, I know that not all of you are lucky enough to live close to a Trader Joe’s, so I try not to torture you. But, today, torture I must. Because those of you who DO have a Trader Joe’s nearby need to get on over there and indulge in my latest obsessions.

Almondictive Bits. I’m just going to quote the package because it says it all: A compulsively, compelling candy, caramelized almond morsels covered in dark chocolate. The name and the description speak for themselves.

Mini Heirloom Tomatoes. I hesitate to even mention these because it means I am encouraging you to purchase produce that has traveled a bajillion miles…but sometimes a girl needs a tomato. Especially when her CSA has basil. So, I blame my CSA for my irresponsible produce-buying habits this week. Okay, seriously, I really truly did feel guilty buying these, and I fully expected them to not taste good because when do tomatoes from the grocery store ever taste good? THESE DO. I cannot believe the flavor punch of these mini heirlooms. I really try to keep our produce purchases local and organic, but I may have to spring for these mini heirlooms occasionally. And, in case you were wondering, they tasted GREAT with that locally-grown CSA basil I mentioned. ;)

Organic Tomatillo Roasted Yellow Chili Salsa. I. Love. This. Salsa. If you’re looking for chunky, look elsewhere, but the flavor and texture of this salsa is to die for. Everyone in our family gobbles it up.

Belgian Chocolate Pudding. My friend Michelle was telling me how this stuff is amazing. So amazing she bought it and hid it in the fridge so no one else in the family new it existed. Michelle is onto something. This pudding tastes like rich chocolate mousse, with a really great, thick pudding texture. SOOOOOOOOO good. Please note that my crazy sister who doesn’t “really like chocolate that much” {what?!?!} actually didn’t really like this pudding that much either…because it is all chocolate, people. GREAT chocolate. {Sister is nuts. Although she is as addicted to the almondictive bits as I am…there’s hope!}

I’m done. You’re welcome.

I love Trader Joe’s product reviews – keep ‘em coming! I have not tried the almond bits or pudding yet, will add both to my grocery list! I’m currently obsessed with their pre-cooked lentils in the produce department. So easy to throw into salads.

I agree about the mini heirlooms. They are DELICIOUS!! (And when my veggie box keeps giving me lettuce week after week, sometimes I need tomatoes too! I’m not so good about using lettuce for things other than sandwiches or salad. Any ideas?)

lettuce? that’s a tough one! sorry I have absolutely no suggestions beyond sandwiches and salad! :)

Give their cookie butter a try sometime. It is AMAZING. I love Trader Joes and cannot imagine life without them.

  4. I just bought the almonds Sat and thought of your blog, they are sooooo good! Also have you tried their candy bar with the cookie butter in the middle??!!! Amazingly good!!!! Another new fav of ours is the butter waffle cookies!!

love that they made you think of my blog – so funny! I noticed that candy bar last time I was there, will have to try it!!

They have the best cinnamon graham crackers. So good I tell the kids they are cookies!

  7. Three words: Chocolate French Toast. I will make a special trip to Trader Joes JUST to get the stuff. SOOO good. That pudding looks amazing too. I’ll have to look for it!

Thanks for the suggestions! We FINALLY got two Trader Joe’s in our area last summer and we’ve yet to meet a product we don’t like!

Thanks for the suggestions (not that I need any more treats! although, i just ate my last raspberry m&m…). We loooove having Trader Joe’s too – my parents are jealous. Every time we know we will be visiting them, or vice versa, we stock up on their favorites and they ration them out until the next visit. Haha! :)

my sister in law visited once and did the same thing – bought like three bags of groceries and rove them 700 miles to home! :)

  11. Today we sampled some Toscano cheese with black pepper at TJs and a big old chunk came home with us on the double! So yummy! I’m also loving their chocolate covered cheerios, baked cheese crunchies, and quinoa & black bean chips.

loving all of your suggestions…I feel like they’re always coming out with new stuff, so it’s good to do these trader joe’s posts once in a while so I can get the skinny from all of you! Thank you!!!!

  13. We go to Trader Joes at least once a week, sometimes more. All the people working see my daughter and call her by name…soooo, we’re there a lot :)
Here are some of the items I always have in my fridge/freezer/pantry:
-tube Buttermilk Biscuits…short of homemade, these are the best
    -tube Cinnamon Rolls…Mmmmmmm
-Mirepoix. Okay, call me lazy. But this is genius. A pre-cut carrots, onions, and celery pack? This shaves off 15+ mins from prep time.
-Battered Halibut (frozen)-a little expensive, but we use them for fish tacos to stretch it.
-Frozen Pizza…we love the Quattro Formaggio and Pizza Parlano
-Crispy Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies-these are bite sized and have a hint of coconut. The bite size means you can eat more and not feel as bad :)
-Red Enchilada Sauce-probably not as good as Jane’s homemade red sauce, but I prefer this to any of the canned varieties.
-General Tsaos Stir Fry Sauce-a little spicy for the kids, but I love the flavor for stir fries.
-Cilantro Lime Salad Dressing (refrigerated)-I love this for a dipping sauce for Southwestern Egg Rolls, or on salads to go with Mexican Food.

You’ve GOT to try the Garlic Chipotle Salsa…it’s not super hot or garlicky, but sooo flavorful! I’m addicted!

(and I have this mini tomatoes in my fridge as well…i bought them once and now I can’t stop)

Also their tahini sauce is surprisingly good…I mix it with nonfat greek yogurt to get it a bit creamier.

Curse you!! I actually had to go back and seek out this post just so I could comment on it. I picked up a tub of the Addictive Bits when I saw them Friday since I recalled your mention of them. Oh my goodness!! It’s 9:30am in the morning here, and they’re all I can think about. Crazy addicting and certain to be my downfall. I have (lack of)self control issues…

    • Jane Maynard

you and I are in the SAME BOAT today…my sister bought some last night and they will certainly be calling my name and succeeding in pulling me in all day I am sure! ;)
