Better Than Cannoli

EmailPinterest0Facebook1Twitter1Google+0StumbleUpon0

You know what’s better than a cannoli? A good, old-fashioned lightning and thunder storm on Cape Cod. Whenever there is a storm during our annual Cape week, I feel like it’s a little gift from Mother Nature.

Here are a few shots of the lightning from last night. It was amazing and, of course, pictures never quite capture the majesty.

Next to a good storm, however, not much beats this.

Oh, ricotta-filled-cannoli-with-mini-chocolate-chips from Modern Pastry, how I love thee. (And, yeah, yeah, you like Mike’s better…we’ll just have to agree to disagree.) We won’t talk about how much cannoli I ate in a 24-hour period. Seriously, I’ll never confess!

    I used to be a Mike’s die-hard but I have come around a bit

Depending on the day it seems one cannoli is better that the other. In general I like Modern’s filling a bit better and Mikes shell. Both are awesome.

Now cookies Modern wins hands down, and Mike’s has the lead with eclairs.

Now the lobster tail at Modern… lets just say it is worth the years it takes off your like.

I haven’t been to Mikes since I discovered that the little Italian pastry shop in my neighborhood sells cannolis for less and fills them when you buy them so they don’t get soft. Now I figure that Mikes is for tourists.

      Marie where do you go?

Royal Pastry on Cambridge St in Cambridge. You have to ask for them, they are not in the case with all the other pastries. This is probably true of many of the italian pastry shops in the area.

  3. Oh, My. Chocolate chip cannoli. yummy!

We will just have to agree to disagree on thunder storm > cannoli. Especially until I get these 9-10 pounds off. After that I might be ok with your comparison! That and it rains almost daily here, so thunderstorms are a dime a dozen, whereas a good cannoli, about $3.

There is nothing like a Cape Cod thunderstorm! Watched mountains seem to appear above Provincetown last week.

oh my gosh, my CA friends got so tired of my cannoli stories on facebook when I had a reunion on the East Coast last year. I was eating at least one a day. I am a Long Island girl and love my cannolis. We actually found some decent ones here in Southern California when Costco, yes Costco carried them. They were frozen so the shells got a little soggy but the filling was right on. My husband and I want to learn to make them one day. We have a deli here that sells the shells, though I do have forms to try and make them. Can you or any of your followers come up with an authentic cannoli flling??? I’d be your best friend for life!!!

  8. I say…enjoy the cannoli while watching the storm…why choose between them?

I do love Mike’s but I’m always open to anywhere that sells pastry ;)

Modern all the way! We had a taste test in my old office years ago to settle things once and for all and Modern beat Mike’s (though it was very close). Hope you also checked out the original Regina Pizza :)

The only thing that’s edible that I love just as much as an authentic, Italian cannoli is a whoopie pie made by an Amish woman in central Pennsylvania.

And Jane has written about both whoopie pies and cannoli’s recently!….is it any wonder I am completely addicted to this blog?

Just for the record, I also love watching thunderstorms….esp. at the beach. And, I had a cannoli at Mike’s once and it was HUGE. Almost too much of a good thing. I prefer mini cannoli’s. Patrizia’s in Plymouth has a perfect dessert of 3 mini cannoli’s.

    I know if I’m a true foodie I should love Modern more than Mike’s, but I can’t help it. I love Mike’s.
