Week 345 Menu

Last night we went to the San Diego Zoo for NIghttime Zoo. We got there just before sunset and were walking through the new koala exhibit when the sky looked like this. It was breathtaking!

I have to say, it is sooooo nice to be back into the school routine. Well, I do hate getting up in the morning, but everything else about being back on a schedule is great!

– Happy Labor Day! Heading to some friends’ for a mid-day get together!

  1. It’s rerun week here. Cleaning leftovers out of the freezer and leaning on some old (and easy) favorites that can be assembled quickly as my wife (a teacher) heads back to school and my three-year-old starts nursery school. All links are mine.

    Hello, First time commenter, longtime lurker. Reading other people’s menus is quite the inspiration. Here is mine for this week:
    Sunday – Broccoli and olive pizza
    Monday – Grilled marinated steak
    Tuesday – Bean and cheese wraps
    Wednesday – Chicken meatballs and buttered noodles
    Thursday – Franks & beans on toast
    Friday – Turkey enchiladas
    Saturday – Leftovers ?

    I love it when my fridge and pantry are stocked for a full 2 weeks worth of meals! I just don’t enjoy food shopping… But, I do enjoy keeping my family healthy so I take one for the team. Ha! 😛

    French Toast, hashbrowns, homemade syrup
    Beef Stroganoff (hubby cooks it for him & boys – I eat Cheerios cuz I hate the stuff)
    Stuffed Shells (your recipe)
    Potato Soup with homemade artisan bread
    Salsa Chicken burritos (made in crockpot)
    BBQ Hot Dogs w/homemade baked french fries (w/romano cheese & spices-so yummy)
    Enchilada Casserole (I use your recipe for homemade enchilada sauce and it’s sooo much better than the canned stuff)
    Taco Soup with cornbread and salad
    Leftovers – if there are any. I have 3 boys and the older 2 play tackle football and the oldest is also a preteen. That should explain why there are rarely leftovers anymore 😉
    Eat out twice due to football games/schedule

    Sun- Chinese Takeout

    Mon- Grilling at friends house.. I’m waking red,white,blue and sweet potato salad with a bacon vinegrette.

    Tues- Taco day( beef for fam and shrimp or fish 4 me and oldest).. Homemade guac. And all the fixins

    Wed- World Cuisine day…Spain seafood paella

    Thurs- Breakfast for dinner

    Fri- Homemade pizzas and Foccacia

    Sat- Grilling out, Ohana shrimp and K-bobs

    Sun- Crockpot French dips and fries, French onion potstickers for me and oldest kiddo

    I usually do not have mine planned yet but this week I do so I’m excited to post! Love reading these each week, provides great inspiration for us to leave our dinner rut!
    Sunday – patio cookout at our neighborhood restaurant
    Monday- dinner at my dads to celebrate my brothers birthday
    Tuesday- zesty chicken in a crock pot from website
    Wednesday- hamburgers, roasted potatoes and corn
    Thursday- easy chicken fried rice from
    Friday- petite sirloin steaks, pinto beans salad
    Saturday- leftovers for kiddos and date night for us

  11. I had a big planning and shopping day, so thankfully my menus are easy to pull together for awhile.

    Sunday: Game Day Nachos (It was super yummy and my team, CU Buffs, won!)
    Monday: Labor Day BBQ – Steaks, Twice Baked Potatos, Broccoli & Cheese, Grilled Squash
    Tuesday: Baked Lemon Chicken, Green Beans
    Wednesday: Hot Dogs and Brats
    Thursday: Crock Pot Chicken Soft Tacos
    Friday: Pizza
    Saturday: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes

    My kids are in high school and the week & weekend revolves around their activities. Most of our meals are either quick & easy, slow cooker, or freezer! I try not to eat out too much. Saves money & is so much healthier.
    Mon – Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Homemade Peach Pie & Homemade Ice Cream
    Tues – Taco Salad
    Wed – Beef Stroganoff, Rice, Broccoli
    Thurs – Waffle Grill Ham & Cheese, Green Salad
    Fri – Baked Ziti w/Italian Sausage, Green Salad
    Sat – Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans
    Sun – Chicken & Bowtie Pasta, Breadsticks, Green Salad

      agreed. I hate it when we eat out a lot during busy moments…since we’ve been back from vacation we are eating out far less and it’s wonderful!

    Wed- almond crusted chicken tenders, roasted broccoli, sweet potato fries

    Sat- out for fried seafood before they close for the season!

      I had almond crusted chicken tenders and sweet potato fries last night 🙂 I can’t eat gluten and am trying to stay away from rice flours and i really liked the almond flour crust on the chicken. i felt it was decently crispy ( i mixed in a bit of grated parm and spices) and didnt absorb much fat as i fried up in a pan with just a tiny bit of olive & grapeseed oils. funny to see someone with the same menu 🙂

    S: 2nd annual fall crawl (early this year due to everyones commitments). A bacon themed progressive dinner and scavenger hunt. Menu included:
    Apps: bacon wrapped weiners, chicken livers & chicken pieces. Veggies & dip
    2nd: corn chowder w/rolls
    Entree: cordon bleau except stuffed with bacon & cheddar w/a roasted apple cream sauce, mashed potatoes & green beans
    Dessert: Apple crisp w/vanilla ice cream
    Everyone had a great time!
    M: Hot dogs, taters tots & watermelon
    T : Sweedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, steamed squash
    W : Grilled chicken salads, French bread
    T : Taco’s, refried beans & sliced avacado

  20. I thought this was Sunday night (even though I knew it was a long weekend), then I realized it’s already Monday and tomorrow is Tuesday … holiday weeks really throw me for a loop!

    M: We drove home from our family’s beach place tonight and stopped for our traditional burgers a la Labor Day at Bob’s Burgers and Brew. My fav!
    Tu: Simple grilled chicken and nectarine caprese. The caprese is my very favorite find of the summer.
    Wed: Dungeness crab quiche from this weekend’s catch!
    Th: Mexican corn and bean sopa (Stupid easy and super healthy — our toddler gobbles this up.)
    F: Leftovers
    Sa: Grilled salmon (hooray for more weekend catch!) and garden salad

  21. Love the photo. I’m actually the opposite, I prefer the summer time and MY routine. I dislike the feeling that the school is telling my how my routine should be. We had a great summer routine and I am already missing it.

    Here is my lunch plan. Lunch is the main meal of the day for us. We eat a filling breakfast, and supepr is a lighter fare.

    1. Eat out
    2. Spicy blackberry ribs, potatoes, carrots, beets
    3. Eat out
    4. Sirloin steak with blackberry glaze, potatoes, tomatoes, peas
    5. Salad
    6. Chicken (something or other)
    7. Traveling

    • Love the idea of spicy blackberry ribs! Do you have a recipe you can share?

    • I just realized I have changed the name of this. 🙂 It is supposed to be “sticky blackberry ribs”, but it has spiciness to it, so I’ve adjusted the name.

      It came from the WSJ newspaper, which my husband reads. He is always handing me new recipes from there. Most, like this, I can do. Others are learning experiences.

      The red pepper is what makes them spicy. The first time we made them it was too much. We have then since adjusted it to our tastes. It is easy to adjust this more/less/not at all to fit your particular tolerance of heat.

      We had left over blackberry glaze that we used on steaks today. We added maple rub to the steaks, instead of salt/pepper/paprika, then glazed each side for a minute or so when they were almost done. It was a great reuse of the glaze, as we always seem to have extra. I’ve also frozen the extra for use on the next batch of ribs.

      as for summer schedules…by the time the school year is ending I can’t WAIT for the unstructured summer to begin. and then, by the time summer is ending, I can’t wait for the routine to be back! I suppose I am never satisfied. 😉 that’s actually not true, but I do find that I need the routine after a few months of summer to get myself back into gear! 😉

      Pound out the chicken, put in some provolone for glue and a few sprigs of asparagus and roll up. seam side down. bake in oven. i would pass on the link to the recipe but i felt like the “sauce topping” wasn’t the best. Yesterday i made a marsala cream dijon mustard shallot sauce that goes over chicken and i was thinking it would be great over the chicken wrapped asapragus !
