AWESOME Flour…and Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

I’m in love. With King Arthur. And his White Whole Wheat Flour.

I made these cookies tonight. They were awesome.

I also made my whole wheat pancakes yesterday using the white whole wheat flour instead of traditional whole wheat flour, and they were even better than the first time I made them. This flour is awesome.

And my cookie recipe is pretty awesome, too…if I do say so myself. (I’m a little obsessed with making the perfect cookie. This is what I did tonight and it worked. This doesn’t mean next time it will work, but one can hope!)

AWESOME Flour...and Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies
Recipe type: Dessert
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • >1 teaspoon vanilla
  • <1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups white whole wheat flour
  • 3½ cups oats
  • 1 package chocolate chips
  1. Mix butter and sugars. Add eggs & vanilla – mix. Add soda, powder and salt – mix. Add flour and oats – mix. Add chocolate chips and, you guessed it, mix. Bake at 325 degrees F for appx 15 minutes (pull them out a LITTLE before you think they’re supposed to come out).

PS – I apologize for the indiscriminate use of the word “awesome” in this post. I plan to use a thesaurus next time, or maybe just write when I’m not so sleepy. 😉

    I LOVE this flour too. It is easier on the stomach than four made with the red wheats. It makes fabulous bread…

    I’ve never heard of this flour, but I’m really interested. Where do you buy it? And have you used it successfully in other recipes?

    I think you can get it pretty much everywhere…they have it at my local Safeway here in California and at Trader Joe’s, although it is a tad cheaper at TJs. (I think it’s easier to come by in New England at lower prices, they’re based there.) I’ve only used it twice so far – the pancakes and the cookies, but it really tastes great. My mother-in-law uses it a lot. Here’s what they say on the website: Perfect for cookies, bars, bread, muffins, pancakes”¦ all your favorite baked goods.

    oh – and King Arthur flour in general is great, high-quality flour. People who use it are very loyal and love it bunches! They have regular white, traditional wheat, and all kinds of products. Also, they are a good source for recipes (you’ll see those on the website as well).

    I haven’t tried this flour, but I am going to! The cookies look AWESOME!! I like that word too:)

  6. Whole wheat cookies are the only way to go b/c you can eat a whole batch and not feel too terrible (Or at least a little less guilty)I am now in the mood for these cookies…can’t wait!

    My aunt, who is a fabulous cook, swears by King Arthur Flour. I use the unbleached white flour and it is by far the best. King Arthur flour is America’s oldest flour company and was founded in 1790. It is based in Norwich, Vermont. You can visit the website at to learn more about the product and the company.
    No, I don’t have anything to do with the company, I’m just a big fan! My aunt always says to always use the best ingredients when you’re cooking and you and your guest will notice the difference.

    One tip for when you are working with it: as the germ of the wheat soaks in liquid it expands, which is why many recipes will turn out dry if you simply substitute wheat for white flour. You will probably need to play with the recipe a little–adding a little extra liquid or less flour. When I make my favorite bread recipe I add the wheat flour and then let it sit for 8 minutes, stirring every minute or so, to give the “germ” the opportunity to absorb the liquid and expand. If you go ahead and add all the wheat flour (and some bread flour, in this case)you will add too much flour and it will be dry. You will not know how much total flour to put in until it has gone through this process.

      yep. really. my husband LOVES the oatmeal and says I never put enough in…whenever I added oatmeal, he complained it wasn’t enough…but these cookies made him very happy. 🙂
