Because this is a food blog and I need to desperately talk about some food…first things first. My last night in Salt Lake we dropped by Bruges Waffles and Frites for “dinner” (yes, we had dessert for dinner). These Liège waffles were seriously to die for. They have these big old sugar crystals throughout and the dough must be yeast-based – the texture is really fantastic. And that big blob of delicious whiteness you see there? That’s a sweetened crème fraiche that I will definitely be trying to replicate here at home.
The frites (fries) portion of our nutritious dinner was mighty tasty as well. Yippee for Belgian frites with a bunch of different sauces to choose from (the Curry Ketchup Mayo – YUM). Thanks to the lovely Melissa Esplin for insisting that I meet her at Bruges for a quick bite.
I drove home from Utah with the girls yesterday (p.s. still loving the Lincoln MKT that was lent to me by Ford). We survived. Barely. Got in around 11:30 last night and felt completely exhausted as well as totally hyped up (may have had something to do with the 5-hour Energy Drink I downed around 6 pm!). I have SO many posts in the works I can’t wait to share with you…but first I must unpack.
I had a great time at evo! I am glad we were able to hangout. I really enjoyed your presentation during the food workshop. You are the best! Glad you were able to eat around SLC:) Cant wait to see you again!
Oh!! I’ll definitely have to take my husband there when he flies into SLC. He’s been looking for real Belgian Waffles for years. Thank you for sharing!
My favorite is the cinnamon liege, creme fraiche, chocolate & banana combo!
I’m so glad that we were able to meet up for a bit! It’s been waaay too long. So sad Cate doesn’t remember me anymore. 🙁
I had an Eggo today for the first time. We can assume that they don’t compare? (I knew an Eggo wouldn’t be incredible, but I’ve always wanted to try one and finally bought a box since I wanted a waffle and our waffle iron has been dead for over a year).
My husband and I will be through SLC next week and I’m putting those waffles on our itinerary:)
Can’t wait to read what you’ve got next!
glad you made it back okay, Janers. Just had a friend recommend this waffle place.. will have to stop by and eat, like, 5…
ps. got the new iphone. PLEASE tell me I actually beat the Maynards in the race of getting a gadget… I highly doubt it, but after 7 years, boy would it feel good.
We are such a waffle family! It was really nice to meet you in SLC. (You’re on my blog today) 🙂
I read the title so fast my mind said “burgers and waffle fries”. At least I had the fry part right! 😉
I’m lucky enough to live in within 20 minutes of Bruges and proudly carry one of their frequent diner punch cards! They are amazing waffles!
This brought back so many wonderful memories for me and my husband. Several years ago, we went to Brugges, Belgium. The waffles were like a piece of heaven. One meal that was highly recommended by the locals was mussels and french fries. It really was a great combination- who knew? Thanks for this wonderful reminder of such special times!
Hi Jane!
I went into labor after eating at Bruges. After trying everything, it was the sugar crystal thingies that got things going!
hope all is well!!
Aren’t those waffles fabulous! We ate there once and the kids can’t stop talking about “those waffles that taste like doughnuts!” YUM!!!
what is a coomon meal like at dinner in belgium?
Sorry if I can ask what is a common dinner meal like in Belgium?
hi kay! I actually have no idea! this little shop only serves belgian frites and waffles, so not really sure beyond that! 🙂
