I am giddy with excitement over my guest post at Make and Takes today. Hot Chocolate on a Stick is my new favorite thing. Beyond delicious and completely adorable, I can’t wait to pass them out to all of our friends! Why is it that when you put something on a stick, it automatically becomes cute? Well, besides corn dogs, but you know what I mean.
I have platefuls of homemade marshmallows lying about, tempting my girls at every turn. Yesterday morning Anna called from the kitchen, “Can I have a marshmallow?” I decided to let her indulge, it is Christmastime after all. So I called out, “Yes!” A few minutes later I went into the kitchen and this is how I found her.
I thought she just wanted a marshmallow. She meant the entire hot chocolate stick! And then, THEN she didn’t even eat it all! I couldn’t let that chocolate go to waste, so I had to eat the rest for her. Ah, the sacrifices of motherhood.
Now, get on over to Make and Takes. Yes, I’m being bossy. But I told you, I’m excited! Chop, chop!

OMG – these are so amazing – I wish I knew about this adorable idea earlier as they would have been amazing to give to the kids in my daughters preschool! Have been sitting here trying to think if I can muster the time to do it but there is just no time left! Will have to remember this for next year!
This is an awesome idea! They are so cute and perfect for gift-giving to friends, neighbors, kid’s teachers, etc. Like the above commenter I don’t think I’ll have time this year but will for sure want to do it next year! Thanks so much for the idea and great directions over on make and takes.
P.S. Is it tricky to poke the sticks through the marshmallows and chocolate without smooshing things? Obviously you did it just fine, but it seems like it could be tricky since they are thicker sticks…
I was worried it might be a little tricky…but it actually worked fine! I had to make sure to poke the marshmallow to the right height, once it went past a certain point, you couldn’t get it back down. am I making sense? but, yes, surprisingly was not a problem sticking those giant sticks through!

i made these exact things last year for christmas gifts. we’re such kindred spirits. i ended up putting two chocolate blocks on each stick because i personally liked the hot chocolate a little stronger. these were divine!
I think two blocks on a stick sounds pretty much like nirvana. 😉
You inspired me. Seriously…I just went and did this today. I actually used a quicker chocolate recipe I found, as I was hoping to have it ready for tomorrow morning.
However….
I made a serious error with the marshmellows….I forgot to add the vanilla at the end! I tasted it off the spatula, still seemed marshmellowy, but I have a feeling I’m missing some major flavor here….do you think they are still presentable?
Very sticky/tricky to spread in pan, without your oiling fingers tip wouldn’t have worked. THANK YOU!
I think leaving out the vanilla is NOT serious…you won’t have that bit of vanilla flavor to it, but they’ll still taste like marshmallows for sure! the vanilla is very subtle anyway, so I think you’re not missing out on any major flavor.
and, yes, super sticky! you totally have to oil your hands, just oiling a spoon like the original recipe suggests is just not enough! 😉 glad I threw that comment in there!

Thank you so much! Just an update, I made a mix of the powdered sugar and cornstarch again, adding 1/2 or more tsp. of the vanilla and stirred it up to get a flavored coating for after I cut them. Not sure if it added much, but they do taste good! I will be sending them off in the morning. Also, I will be trying out your hot chocolate recipe next…
BTW, I meant marshMALLOW. Sorry, I realized the misspell too late and it was bugging me. ha.
