Guest Post on Make and Takes Today: “Healthy” Brownies

Special thanks to Anne Van Hoose who shared the black bean brownie recipe (pictured above) in the recent Call for Recipes: Beans. It was great inspiration for my Make and Takes post!

P.S. It’s really easy to make the black bean brownies. Just get a dark chocolate brownie mix and a can of black beans. Drain and rinse the beans, then fill the can (with the beans) back up with water, puree the beans and water, add to the brownie mix, and bake to package instructions. Voila!     Oprah is a damn liar! I have eaten them before (a friend made them) and ew. They tasted like chocolate cooked veggies. I’m interested in trying the black bean brownies though! Thanks for publishing the tip!

    Somewhere I have a recipe for oatmeal cookies that uses white beans instead of butter? I remember it being ok?!

    Hey! Thanks for the shout out! I was surprised, excited, and flattered you tried and featured my idea (that I stole from someone, who stole from someone, etc…). It’s funny how different and particular people are about brownies – crust or middle? chewy or cakey? etc… Glad these won the taste test!

  6. SO interesting although I think I’m going to be making my own mix with Whole Wheat Pastry flour– MORE fiber with BEANS (oh no, my intestines). Wonderful idea though. I’ve never though about using beans and dessert. Awesome!

    i made black bean brownies tonight with ghiradelli brownie mix and i have to say they werent bad. the only downfall was that they were a little spongey and that made it a little awkward. i made them in hopes of my 2 year old actually eating beans without realizing it, but he only took one bite. oh well, we’ll try again tomorrow.

      like I conclude in my guest post…I think I’m going to stick with real brownies from now on. these are good…just not GREAT. I want great 😉

    Thanks for the easy peasy recipe, going to make them today for Halloween, this way I am sure the kids will eat something healthy along with all their treats.
