Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution (And a Giveaway! And Recipes!)

This giveaway is now closed. But please read the post anyway….it’s a goodun.

(Hey friends. This is a long post. Please stick with it. It’s a good one. Plus, there’s a giveaway tucked in there you don’t want to miss!)

jamie oliver's food revolution banner

When Nate and I were newlyweds, we loved watching The Naked Chef. (Now that is a good opening line for a post, no?) The Naked Chef was Chef Jamie Oliver’s first T.V. show. We loved it…the whole idea was to get the food naked, strip it down to the essentials. Jamie has stayed true to that philosophy over the years and has taken it to a whole new level, a “revolution” if you will. Have you heard about Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution? In Jamie’s own words, this is what it’s all about: “I believe that every child in America has the right to fresh, nutritious school meals, and that every family deserves real, honest, wholesome food.” That’s it folks. Simple, right? Nope. Unfortunately, it’s unbelievably complicated.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to watch Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution on ABC, you can watch the full episodes on the website. So, get yourself caught up and make sure to tune in tonight for Episode 3. I love this show. It’s eye-opening. It’s frustrating. It’s inspiring. It’s touching. It’s downright awesome. I think what got to me most were the USDA regulations governing what food has to be served in the schools. The “health” guidelines are so misguided, and the red tape is stifling for administrators. Simply put, the system’s a mess. It all makes me a little crazy.

I received an email from Jamie’s PR firm a few months ago about the Food Revolution. Since I was a fan of Jamie, I actually read the email and then I hopped over to Jamie’s website, signed his petition and called it a day. Then I saw the premiere of the program on ABC two weeks ago and decided this was something I really wanted to share with all of you. So here we are!

jamie's food revolution book cover smIf you’d like to sign the petition, which Jamie will take to the White House, click here! And please spread the word to get others to sign as well! Jamie was the catalyst for some great changes in the U.K. school lunch program. There’s no reason we can’t do the same thing here in America!

Oh! And I do have a giveaway for you! Leave a comment on this post to be entered for your chance to win a copy of Jamie’s Food Revolution: Rediscover How to Cook Simple, Delicious, Affordable Meals. Post your comment by Midnight PT, Wednesday April 7. One randomly-selected winner will be announced on April 8. (Prize must be shipped to a U.S. address, thanks!) Big thanks to Jamie’s PR firm for the giveaway!

I loved this show. The chicken nugget demonstration has changed my view on that food forever!

  2. 2
    Nancy Deininger

my husband and I also loved to watch the naked chef – I substitute teach at a high school and always tease (harass) the kids when i have lunch duty (watching kids eat and behave) when they only buy cookies and ice cream or french fries

  3. 3

Just had to give this book back to the library and had to pay fines because I loved it so much! Great idea to use your blog to spread the word. I just signed the petition, so thanks for the kick in the pants. And thanks for the blog–been following for a couple of months and I am really enjoying it!

  4. I am loving his show! So eye-opening.

  5. 5

I love Jaime Oliver and what he is trying to do with the school lunch programs. Since my children have been going to school, (our oldest is now in college and their food is no better), I have thought the school lunch programs are absolutely disgusting and refused to have my children eat that garbage. I will definitely sign his petition and watch his show to see what progress is made with our system.

  6. one of jamie’s cookbooks has been at the top of my “next cookbook to buy” list for a long time…

  7. Thanks for the info! This looks like a great book.

  8. 8

I caught up on his new show last weekend. I think it is great and have been recommending it to everyone. I planned to buy the book, but winning it would be better!

  9. 9

I posted about the show a while back, as well. I find Jamie’s enthusiasm very inspiring and contagious. I will definitely be tuning in.

Would love to win this book! Keeping my fingers crossed!

  10. 10

I am loving this new show! It’s awesome and eye opening. Thanks for the chance to win!

  11. 11

I am loving the show. It will be interesting to se how it turns out.

  12. 12

The fact that ketchup is considered a valid serving of vegetables … Sad.

  13. i caught the tail end of this show last week then decided to make my child’s lunch for the rest of the school year.

  14. 14
    Lori H

I will have to check out this show! I have had the book on hold forever at the library, so naturally I would rather own it! 🙂

  15. 15

I am always looking for a good healthy cookbook. I’d love it.

  16. 16

I LOVE this show. It has kept me up at night thinking about food, how I feed my family, etc. And boy! would I love his cook book!

  17. 17

The missus and I watched that on Hulu just last night! It’s a great show.

  18. 18

I’d love the cookbook too: healthy eating is essential and Jamie Oliver is great. I can’t bring myself to watch the show because I think it’ll just be too heartbreaking.

  19. Healthy cooking here I come! I really need to beef up my menus!!!

  20. 20

I love Jamie!!! Was anyone else distressed last week during the show when the school officials were insisting that he serve rice AND bread?

  21. 21

Oh, I can’t wait to try some of those dressing recipes. Yum!

  22. 22
    Jenna Nelson

That is a GREAT show…it really made me think. I didn’t even know about that cookbook but i would LOVE it.

  23. 23

As someone who works for an education-based company and is passionate about clean, healthy food, I LOVE what Jamie is trying to accomplish in our schools. I never ate school lunches growing up – thankfully I had the means to bring an alternative healthy lunch. Most children today only get what is provided or they go hungry, which is unacceptable!

  24. 24

I love this show and I love this cookbook. I checked it out from the library and was so sad to give it back.

  25. 25

I love this show! I work at an elementary school and have ‘lunch duty’. I spend the entire period encouraging kindergarten students with what they are eating. “oranges are yummy!” “have you finished your milk yet? let’s finish our milk” “milk makes you strong like Spider-man!” “before we eat those cookies let’s have some sandwich first so we aren’t hungry this afternoon”. It’s exhausting but it would be more frustrating if I just watched and didn’t say anything.

  26. 26

I love this show! And I am pretty good about what I feed my kids, but this show has made me feel that I am doing the right thing!

  27. I think I might have to check out his show now. Thanks.

  28. I LOVE that show! You are so right that it is inspiring and frustrating and eye-opening all at the same time. I love how slowly, but surely, Jamie is getting through to all those hardened folks. Thanks for supporting his idea and joining a much needed conversation!

  29. 29
    Beth Monson

I would love to check out this book! This guy is interesting.

  30. 30

I’ve been watching the show – really sad stuff! Would love the cookbook for sure, as I am young and married and need to change my and my husband’s eating habits before it’s too late!

  31. 31
    Connie Z.

I need to catch up on the show on On Demand. I thought it started tonight…

I’m a newlywed, very interested in the book.

  32. 32

I would love a copy of Jamie’s cookbook. I am a Kindergarten teacher and am often surprised by what the children are served. Nachos? Really?

  33. 33

    I love Jamie, too!

  34. 34

I love this show! I hope that major changes happen SOON!

  35. I love this show. We watched it the other night and it is so eye-opening. Also frustrating, like you said.

    Thanks for doing this giveaway!

  36. 36

    I love his show–very informative!

  37. 37

Petition signed! I really hope he’s able to clear up the mess this has caused for our school lunch system! Thanks for posting this Jane and bringing attention to this matter 🙂

  38. 38

    i love this show!
i recently made a big change in my life to more healthy, “naked” eating (hee hee) so this revolution really hits home for me! go Jamie, go! 🙂

  39. 39

I love Janie Oliver. Though I haven’t seen the show, I hope to soon.

  40. 40
    Jennie Atagi

I’ve watched the show and totally agree we need a food revolution.

  41. 41

What a great giveaway, especially from you, Jane!

  42. 42
    Sarah A.

I have loved Jamie Oliver for almost 10 years now and would love this cookbook. His show is amazing with everything he is trying to do to help stop obesity among children.

  43. 43

We’ve been watching Jamie’s shows for years now, too. How can you not love the guy? I have a culinary degree – and a history as a super, super, morbidly obese woman – I’ve lost 245 lbs over the last nearly 8 years – and have had to work diligently over the course of my lifetime about foods – I have many life-threatening food allergies. (You can see my WLS related blog at if you’d like.)

I am so thankful that my kids (17, 16, 13 yrs old) get it that the food that they see in the cafeteria is NOT safe for consumption – and love taking home-prepared healthy lunches. My heart just BREAKS for the kids who have no other options.

My passion is that every household be able to grow even a little bit of their own food – even if it’s in a pot on the window sill! We’re so fortunate to have 1/2 an acre to play in the dirt with, and a flock of chickens to provide fresh healthy eggs! If only that could be the norm!

  44. 44

    Love this show!

  45. 45

Jamie Oliver is awesome!!!! And the show is amazing. Looks like I will be making lunches for many years…my child will not eat the garbage kids are fed in schools.

  46. 46

I love this show. As a teacher, I have been so frustrated about the lack of quality nutritional food that our kids eat at school everyday. It seems that is would be less expensive to not have additives…but nope…I’ve signed the petition too!

  47. 47

I’ve blogged about this too…it’s a great show with a great mission. I’ve been working hard at eliminating processed foods from my family’s diet and the show has been a wonderful motivator so far. I wish they’d move it to a better time slot where it would get the exposure it deserves, because it’s television with a purpose.

  48. 48

Wouldn’t it be GREAT if changes can be made to our public school foods?!

  49. 49

I’m so glad Jamie did this show. It has been amazing and inspiring to watch. I would love his new cookbook too 🙂

  50. 50

I’ve really enjoyed watching this show. I watched the British version and I am so glad he’s bringing the revolution to America!! Hopefully by the time my daughter is in school, we will see some marked improvement!!

  51. Love that show!!! 🙂

  52. 52

I’m interested in this show and need to check it out. I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about it & I know just from the time my child spent in the public school system that a revolution is needed!

  53. 53

I never knew much about Jamie til the past couple weeks when the show came on. Love the show, love this dude. Would love to win a copy of the book!!!

  54. 54

I haven’t heard of Jamie, or the Naked Chef, but will certainly have to learn more about both. Those dressings sound delicious!

  55. signed the petition. I think the show is amazing – if only it could truly be the wake up call that so many people need to hear. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that enough people are watching it or even aware of it. There was an interesting piece in last week’s Time magazine about his show, so who knows, maybe more people will find out.

  56. 56

I, too, have been watching Jamie from the beginning – I love his simple approach!

  57. 57

I didn’t know the show started already! I gotta find it and set my DVR! I am very upset over the quality of food our kids get in school. I saw on the menu that they were giving out Strawberry Poptarts for breakfast! To me that’s like giving them a candy bar!

  58. 58

Thanks for sharing this information. I will definitely watch the show and I signed the Petition!

  59. 59
    Beth G

This show really opened my eyes. I was surprised how many people were truly ignorant about what they were feeding their kids.

  60. 60

I am inspired by Jamie’s food revolution. I think everyone should watch it. Signed the petition the first chance I heard of it.
Thanks for sharing. I think it’s really important!

  61. 61

I love Jamie! Great giveaway! I already signed the petition…I am on board all the way!

  62. 62

I love what he is doing! I have high hopes for his ideas! 🙂

  63. I watched the preview and want to catch up on the show! I’d love to win the book.

  64. 64

So great that you’re bringing attention to this huge problem our society is facing. It shouldn’t be taken as lightly as it has in the past – and I really admire Jamie’s intiatives to tackle the issue where it begins.

  65. 65

This show is awesome. He totally made me cry last week. And I seriously want to go rounds with those ladies in the cafeteria! “I do it for the money” URG.

  66. 66
    Carrie Hellewell

Matt and I have been watching them as they come on. I love Jamie and his revolution. It was fascinating to see that those cute little school kids didn’t know what a tomato was but instantly recognized ketchup!

  67. 67

I love this show! Its so important to learn how to make healthy, simple food. His new show influenced my research paper in school… Childhood obesity.

  68. 68

Sounds like Jamie not only has some great ideas but he is pushing forward to make change! Love it! And if the rest of his cookbook is as great as the salad dressing you shared I need to have it!

  69. 69

thanks for the info, this looks like it will be a great show!! something my whole family should watch

  70. 70

This book is awesome! I got it from the library once, and was in love! Would love to have my own copy!

  71. I watched the show, set a season pass on my DVR, signed the petition, and would LOVE the cookbook. Oddly enough, we feed my kid VERY well, but the show is inspiring her parents (that’s me) to eat better!

  72. 72

I’d love to win this book!!!

  73. 73

    Think he’s great!

    Would love to win….

  74. 74

I love this show! I’ve signed the petition and love what Jamie is doing. Forget Team Jacob, I’m 100% team Jamie! Besides, it’s my 28th birthday and I’d love a copy of that book for me and me family!

  75. 75

I love Jamie and would love to win his book!

  76. 76

Delicious. Fingers crossed! I need a good cookbook 🙂 Thank you!

  77. Signed the petition!! This is such a worthy cause. Added the button to my blog, and facebooked AND twittered the petition link.

  78. 78

Just signed his petition. Saw him on Rachael Ray and he was awesome! Thanks for the opportunity to win his wonderful cookbook. 🙂

  79. Sounds like something I could use!!!

  80. 80

I really enjoyed the first episode of the show and am looking forward to seeing the results of the project.

  81. 81

    I would love this book!!

  82. 82

    Love this idea!!

  83. 83
    Kathy Allen

    This is just amazing!

  84. We are loving that show! The chicken nuggest demo? Gag!

  85. 85

The first episodes of Jamie’s show really were awesome and eye opening; school-aged kids not able to identify a tomato or potato in their original states? What has the world come to? Go Jamie!!

  86. 86

I have been a Jamie Oliver fan since Naked Chef! I also loved his more recent show “Jaime at Home.” His recipes are always simple, fresh and taste amazing! I would SO love to win a copy of his book! Thanks for spreading the word about his mission!

  87. 87

    I’m all in!

  88. 88

    saw him on Rachael Ray!

  89. 89

We don’t have TV – But we love Jamie, AND his recipes!!

  90. 90
    Laura D

Love his cooking! Hope that he can help American kids get better foods at school. Right now, the options are rather dismal.

  91. 91

I discovered this show via Hulu and I was hooked! I love that he is challenging the conventions and bringing this issue into the light. It’s absolutely shocking what passes for “healthy” food in our culture. When I look around the play grounds I feel like we are failing this generation. If a kid can’t run around a soccer field or even climb the playground ladder, something is wrong.

  92. 92

I’d love to win a copy of this! I love jamie.

  93. 93

I have really enjoyed watching this show. It has been particularly interesting to me, not only because I have kids, but because the city he is doing this in is about 15 miles from my parents. My father told me he had a chance to go to a dinner Jamie did at the church, but did not go. I had to fuss at him about that. I would love to win this book! Thanks for the giveaway.

  94. I am all for a school lunch revolution but lets get breakfast in there too. I am sickened by poptarts, long johns, and cinnamon tasteries being served as breakfast.

  95. 95
    Barbara Ann Baker

hi, jane — i want this!!!

  96. 96

I signed the petition – what a great cause.

  97. 97

I am just thankful to Jaime for taking the time and for being caring enough to start the revolution. I wish him all the success.

  98. 98

love the show. i could not believe when the kids could not identify vegetables!! i would love the book (hawaii is the u.s.:)

  99. 99

I’ve totally been watching this show and have been so impressed (and frustrated) by it. Unfortunately I watched his lesson to the kids about chicken nuggets…and I had it on my menu this week. Bleegh!

I’m off to sign the petition. I love what I’ve been learning about fresh foods lately. And it’s something I’ve become quite passionate about. So thanks for spreading the word to others.

  100. 100

Sounds like a wonderful cookbook and I love cookbooks!

  101. 101

Keep missing this show, but am taping it tonight. I swear whenever my husband takes the kids to the grocery they return with all the stuff I’ve been fighting against. Thanks for dressing recipes, I can really use those.

  102. 102
    jen schulte

    I love Jamie, I hope I win!

  103. 103
    Carol Bridges

    I am all for it!!

  104. 104
    Nicole Beckstrand

I’m so glad he’s started this in the US! I love The Naked Chef and feel passionately about changing the eating habits of our nation — starting with my family! Thanks, Jane!!

  105. 105

    Saw the show, loved it!

  106. 106

I haven’t heard much about Jamie Oliver or his show, but what better way to learn than to get a free book!? Sounds really interesting.

  107. 107

i haven’t seen the show but i will and certainly i will sign the petition. the food in our cafeterias are terrible. Our son Andre, who now is 12, always refused to eat that food. We make him lunches daily that consist of a healthy sandwich, veggies, fruit, and sometimes a treat.

  108. Love Jamie Oliver, love the show, love you!

  109. 109
    Stephanie P.

I only pray this show has a good ending! I really felt like crying when the children couldn’t identify vegetables, and the bit about not using knives and forks! I might not have been GREAT with a knife and fork, but they were in my hands for as long as I can remember, and they were in our cafeteria too.

Learning manners as well as eating right should start in the home, but continue in school, as the more exposure you get, the more likely you are to do things properly.

I think one of the problems is trying to make drastic changes at once, if I were a kid used to cafeteria pizza, I’d probably pick that over chicken too. Maybe putting some roasted vegetables on top of the pizza, incorporating whole wheat crusts and make baby steps would work a little better.

    Thanks for the post!

  110. 110

    jamie crush.

  111. 111
    Emily M

I love Jamie and his recipes! Hope his mission catches on in the US.

  112. 112

This sounds awesome. Thanks for posting the information and I would love the opportunity to win this! By the way, I tried your Tortellini soup and EVERYONE loved it (even picky 2 and 4 yr old!). Thank you!

  113. 113

I LOVE Jamie! What a great guy and chef! I signed the petition and would love to win his book!

  114. 114

My husband and I watched The Naked Chef as newlyweds too! We would record it. Love Jamie Oliver and his take on food.

  115. 115

    looks like a great book!

  116. 116

I love Jamie’s energy and enthusiasm. Thanks for the contest!

  117. 117

love the show and would love the book!

  118. 118

You’re right about the show being a big surprise!

  119. 119
    Lori K.

I love this show. After last weeks episode when the first grade class didn’t know what any of the vegetables were I promptly took my first grader to the grocery store and was pleased that he knew ALL of the fruits and vegetables that I pointed out.

  120. 120

The show really sounds amazing. Good for him.

  121. 121

I haven’t watched the show but it sounds really interesting!

  122. 122
    Jen K

Sounds like a great idea. I’d love the book!

  123. 123

I am a big Jamie Oliver fan! My husband, who resembles JO, even gets asked for his autograph once in awhile!

  124. 124

I haven’t seen the new show, but I liked the idea when I watched his show on TLC when he worked with British schools. It will be great for the kids!

  125. 125

I’m from England and love what Jamie did to the schools in the UK. I’m hoping he’ll have success here in the states.

  126. 126

Was totally into the Jamie’s school lunch program in the UK….I’m really excited to see what he can do here. What an inspiration.

  127. 127

I DVRed the show from last week and still need to watch it! Thanks for the reminder!

  128. 128

Saw Jamie on Oprah last week and was so impressed with that he’s doing. Hopefully he impacts a lot of people and inspires them to change.

  129. 129

I usually don’t follow celebrities, but I’m happy to get behind Jamie Oliver because he’s helping educate people about an important topic that affects everyone. I’d love to get his cookbook!

  130. 130

I saw some of that chicken nugget show. Freaked me out and I can’t believe those kids were totally down with eating them!!

  131. 131

I have my DVR set to record this tonight so it will be waiting for me once I watch the other episodes online. This is something I personally feel very strongly about, too, so I hope his cause is widely embraced.

  132. 132

I just hope our country can see that what he says actually has some merit!

  133. 134

Yay for Jamie Oliver!!! I have loved him forever and I am sooooooo excited for what he is doing! I have heard so many wonderful things about this book and would LOVE to have it!! Can’t wait for the new episode tonight!

wow. lots of !!!!!. I get really excited about this:)

  134. 135

Thanks for sharing, I hadn’t heard anything about it, but It sounds like something I’d love to support. This probably isn’t exactly what he means but I’m such a food/flavor purist that I like a lot of my food extremely simple. I’ll have to look into this more…

  135. 136

Oh I just love Jamie! Made one of his recipes last night even. We lived in England when the school dinners idea was just beginning! Thanks!

  136. 137

I signed the petition, and now I’m headed over to veg on some new episodes of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution!

I would LOVE to win this book. I’m so impressed by what I’ve heard, I’d really like to read more.

I hate how some food revolutionists preach:
Throw your budgets out the window and buy the most expensive food at the grocery store just because it proudly wears the Organic seal of approval!

Jamie Oliver seems to be health & budget conscious, which is something I can stand by.

  137. I have some issues with the show (which I think has more to do with my issues with reality TV in general) but I am 100% behind Jamie’s message, which is that everyone should be able to cook and eat real food.

  138. I have watched Jamie through the years and really am enjoying his new series on ABC. It’s about time that this country had a revolution!

  139. 140
    andrea p

Tonight will be my first chance to watch Food Revolution. I’ve only heard the best comments about it. I’ve loved some of Jamie’s other projects. It’s great that he uses his celebrity to make a difference!

  140. 141
    Ed Janota

I was recently diagnosed with wet age-related macular degeneration. I am in the battle of my life to save my vision and I’m doing it primarily with nutrition. I wished I had been educated at an early age. I saw Jamie’s show at the elementary school and I am truly amazed at the resistence he received. America needs to wake up. We are blessed with his help.

  141. 142

I will catch the show for the first time tonight. As the parent of children who are served chicken nuggets way too often in their elementary school cafeteria, I totally support Oliver’s cause.

  142. 143
    Peg C

the show a real eye-opener, having just retired from 30 years of public school teaching I can say I never ate a school lunch!

  143. I watched the first episode online last week and was so touched. I am genuinely sad for those kids. When Jamie showed them a bunch of tomatoes and asked if they could name the vegetable…some didn’t know and others said “potato.” So, so sad. I really hope he succeeds! I need to set some time aside so I can get caught up.

  144. 145

Thanks for the information. This looks like a great book that I just have to have

  145. 146

Love Jamie Oliver and all of his shows. Been watching Food Revolution & curious to see how it goes. Seems like he’s been having a rough time of it.

  146. 147

This show is great and a real eye-opener for a lot of people. Sure would be nice if they could get the school lunch program “fixed” before my little one heads to school!

  147. 148
    Michele Wang

Love Jamie Oliver and what he’s doing to inspire/educate people to eat healthier.

  148. 149

Love the show. Vive la revolution!

  156. 157

i need dinner inspiration, would love this book!

My teenage son has a “food allowance”- he can use to buy school lunch or keep for personal spending if he packs his own lunch. Now, sometimes he chooses to buy- it’s a social thing in high school- and when he does, I cringe at what he tells me he had to eat.

  159. 160

I saw him on Oprah or Dr. Phil (don’t remember which one) and couldn’t believe that one of the school’s served pizza for lunch. That is just unbelievable!!!! I really hope he makes an impact on school lunch program.

  160. 161
    Nikki CB

    Awesome! You say you want a revolution….yes, I’m a geek….

  161. 162
    Peter CB

I’m a big fan of most things my wife does naked, so if this is going to encourage her to do more naked cooking, I’m all for it.

  162. 163

I love Jamie and this show and will gladly sign the petition.

  163. 164
    Lindsey S

fantastic show & cause. Thanks so much for the chance at the book!

  164. Love this show. We are totally on board!!

  165. 166

I think this is a great show. Thanks for the giveaway!

  166. 167

I love Jamie and all of his help…my husband and I watched the show about him TRYING to help the cafeteria cooks…poor Jamie, he took a beating, but they sent him into a situation where the people to offense to change…ALL of them, except the preacher and principle were over weight in my opinion (myself included)…one would think that with the town being the most overweight, they would look forward to a positive opinion for wanting to get better notoriety. Oh well…I know I would LOVE Jamies book AND put it to real good use!

  167. 168
    Sara P.

Love this show. So eye opening! Thanks for the chance to win.

  168. 169
    Rob Maynes

Love this book. Want this book.

  169. 170
    Natalee Maynes

I need a food revolution. Seriously, bring it on!

  170. 171

When my daughter first started Kindergarten this year, I knew I was going to be sending her with lunch each day. It’s sad the way we are “teaching” our children what “healthy” eating looks like.

  171. 172

    Fantastic! Must watch the show.

  172. I have only gotten to catch a few minutes of his Revolution show but I loved it! I need to set my TV to tape it. Hadn’t heard of him before but I could learn a lot from him!

  173. 174

Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! (Seriously- haven’t seen the new show, but didn’t miss an episode of the Naked Chef series)

  174. 175

Great guy and great inspiration, energy and ideas! Thanks for publicizing this, jane. Our children need it!

  175. 176

Hi Jane! I simply love your blog, and the fact that you’re bringing up the Food Revolution and sharing it with all of us here, makes me love it even more. I think Jamie is doing an amazing job and I do hope he succeeds with his revolution here in America.

    Great job, Jane! 🙂

  176. 177

I absolutely LOOOOOOVE Jamie Oliver and everything he is doing!

  177. 178

I’ll have to check out the website. It sounds like a fabulous idea. Hopefully a TV show can convince my husband to eat better too.

Oh, and I do have a US address too. 😉

  178. 179

Thank you for this post. I love the Food Revolution. Huge fan!

  179. 180

A few summers ago I read Barbara Kingsolver’s book Animal Vegetable Miracle and I was so ready to go out and raise my OWN chickens! Then I read both Skinny Bitch and Jane Goodall’s book: Harvest for Hope and I was on board in a big way… I missed the show tonight though.. wonder if it’s on HULU?

  180. 181
    Jana Barbay

I love Jamie Oliver. I own a couple of his cookbooks. I have children that range from 22 years to 3 years. I have always packed school lunches for my children. I never like the poor nutritional choices and also found them expensive. Our private school charges $3.50 per lunch. I feel so much satisfaction sending wholesome foods for them. My children enjoy eating it too!

  181. 182

Just watched the chicken nugget episode online – very eye opening – it has motivated me to pack more lunches for my kids- thanks for sharing.

  182. 183

I’ve been “eating clean” for two months now (down 16 lbs thank you very much) and seriously need some new recipes! Loved the Food Revolution first episode — need to catch up, but yes, very eye opening!

  183. 184

I am just so thankful for tivo…because my TIVO loves to replay Jamie’s FR over and over for me!!! <3 <3 <3

  184. 185
    Andrea MacDonald

I love Jamie Oliver! I think he has done so much for healthy eating done cheap!
    Great recipes you posted!!!

  185. 186

    This is my naked comment.

  186. 187

Only watched the premiere so far, but loved it! Even though I know we eat very healthy and more color than “golden brown” it still made me seriously think about changing some habits we have. Would love this book to help us with that! Thanks for the giveaway!

  187. 188

I am so interested in this show! And book! How interesting!!!

  188. 189

I was floored. I knew school lunch wasn’t great but it is toxic. How sad is it that an entire class of kids didn’t know what raw veggies looked like?! I know I can make better choices in my own life but love Jamie’s idea of getting involved.

  189. 190

After seeing all of the news about this show and how revealing it is, we DVR’d last night’s so I’m looking forward to watching it and learning more. And of course the cookbook would be a great addition to my family’s lifestyle change we’re working on!

  190. 191

I haven’t seen the show yet, but I sure am interested. I just signed the petition and intend to start watching the show.

  191. 192

I think what he’s doing is great! I’d love to use his cookbook.

  192. 193

Thanks for hosting this! What Jamie Oliver is doing is brave, smart and generally brilliant. Huge fan. My two little girls could inherit a healthy relationship with food!

  193. 194

I liked the Jamie at Home series, he always had such beautiful produce, and a much was what we were growing.

  194. 195

I think this show is awesome! People deserve the right to be able to access healthy food that is also affordable. Think about how much money could be saved in healthcare if people were given basic information about whole foods and were taught how to prepare them.

  195. 196

I haven’t seen this show yet, but I really want to watch it. I’ve been following a blog about school lunches and I think that something needs to change!

  196. My husband and I have been watching this show, and I was stunned at the government guidelines for cafeteria food. My kids, 27, 19 and 18 always told me that the lunch room food was dreadful, and I know that they have been making changes, however, some of the changes are not for the better. I am off to sign the petition and I have optimism that there will be some positive changes. Thanks for this post.

  197. 198

The chicken nugget demonstration alone was enough to get my husband and I hooked on this show – I immediately changed the way I thought about food and have been making positive changes for my family since.

  198. 199

I can not wait to watch this show. I am the mother of twin 4 year old boys and an almost 2 year old girl. My boys are entering Kindergarten in the fall and I am very interested in the whole school lunch dialogue. Thanks for the post Jane!

  199. 200

I don’t have TV right now so I was not aware of this show. I will check out the episodes on the website though!

  200. I’d love to get this book. I remember what school lunches were like 15 years ago, they can’t be much better now 🙂

  201. 202

Awesome!! I haven’t seen the show but heard a lot about it and the book.

  202. 203

I saw the “Food Revolution” last night. Very interesting to see what our kids eat at school. Makes me so sad because they aren’t getting enough nutrients. I think french fries should be banned in the school system! Heck, all fried foods should be banned! Thanks for blogging about it and offering a giveaway!

  203. 204
    Jen McDonald

I’ve heard of Jamie’s revolution, but not had a chance to watch the show. I’ll check out the website to see it though. I think it’s important to feed our kids good food and when so many kids get their only nutritious meals at school it’s even more important!

  204. 205

I haven;t had time to watch the show but I believe in Jamie’s mission.

  205. 206

I caught a little of this show and am excited to see more!

  206. 207

Would love to win the book and have the revolution start right here at home- I would love the help!

  207. 208

    Would love it!

    Thanks for the giveaway!
    Amy B.

  213. 214

I’ve been watching the show and love it! Hope I win!

  214. 215

Just saw the show for the first time. I was hooked (and enraged) the minute I saw the food director pull the pasta salad with fresh veggies and replace it with french fries to meet the school lunch veggie quota!! I would love to read his book.

  215. 216

Jamie Oliver is so inspirational! If anyone can get the powers that be to change what kinds of foods are served at school – he can! I signed the petition because I feel so strongly that what our children are being served to eat is in direct relation to childhood obesity among other things like too much time spent in front of the tv/video game/computer. I would just love his book and help my family eat a bit better!

  216. 217

I too am fascinated by Food Revolution!

  217. 218

Love the show and his vision/mission.

  218. 219
    Tricia M

I love jaime oliver, he is such an inspiration!!

  219. 220

I really need to start eating healthier. This would be a big help!

  220. 221
    Fern S.

    Fantastic!!! Love Jamie Oliver….

  221. 222

Love him, I’ve been watching with my 8 year and we both really like the program! Now if only Alice would get on board……

  222. 223
    Julie Bemos

Great show! I would love to have the recipes for the dinner the high school students made. I will definitely be tuning in every week.

  223. 224
    Jane Rasmussen

What an inspiration. I love you Jamie Oliver!

  224. 225

We absolutely LOVE Jaimie Oliver at our house:)! It would wonderful to win a copy!

  225. 226

i was shocked when the school kids couldn’t name the veggies jamie held up during an episode. very interesting.

  226. 227

I have been loving Jamie’s new show & would love to check out the book!

  227. 228

I just saw this show for the first time & loved it! Doesn’t hurt that he’s Australian…accent + good food = wonderful 🙂

  228. 229

I am really enjoying this show. That chicken nugget demonstration was eye opening.

  229. 230

Love the show…and hope that some changes can be made to our school systems!

  230. 231
    Zee S

I LOVE this show although it is often frustrating to watch.

  231. 232

What a great show! I HOPE its opens more people’s eyes, but I know its a long road.

  232. 233

What fun. I was very inspired by Jamie’s talk at TED this year. We don’t have cable so I hadn’t seen what Mr. Oliver has been up to. Our country, our schools, definitely need a revolution. We try to eat well and involve my daughter in cooking and gardening here, but even she is a big fan of “Old McDonalds” when we go on a road trip. Need to break that habit somehow!

  233. 234

I found the show very enlightening.. and have been thinking about it ever since. I’d love his cookbook!

  234. 235

Perfect for my wife. We have really gotten into his show, too.

  235. 236
    Lizzy Stevens

I will definitely tune into this show now that I know about it thanks to you! I would LOVE his cook book!

  236. 237
    Auntie Barb

I was hopoing Jamie would do this in the US. I watched some of the UK version and knew we needed it too. It’s criminal what we’re doing to ourselves and to our children. I have my fingers crossed it will make a difference.

  237. 238

cool stuff! Thanks for the giveaway!

  238. 239

I was on vacation last week and missed that episode, but I am looking forward to catching up with my DVR! I think it is wonderful what he is doing!!

  239. 240

How awesome! I love his show!

  240. 241

    pick me, pick me!

  241. 242

About 10 minutes into the first Food Revolution show I was hooked. I’d love to get a copy of his book.

  242. 243

I’d love a copy of the book! Thanks for the opportunity 🙂

  243. Haven’t had a chance to check out this show, but have seen previews and it looks interesting. I’ll try to watch this week. Thanks!

  244. 245

Good for Jamie! Hope his revolution succeeds! Great book.

  245. 246

Petition signed! Thank you for the opportunity to own a copy of the book.

  246. 247

I love Jamie Oliver’s revolution — it’s much needed. Thanks for the giveaway!

  247. 248

I, too watched the naked chef. I’ve always loved Jamie Oliver and I’m loving Food Revolution! I signed the petition a couple of weeks ago. I would love to have the book!

  248. 249
    Jenny D.

I can’t resist the cookbook giveaways. I love Jamie Oliver and would love this cookbook! Thanks.

  249. 250

I only caught bits and pieces of the first show, but the second show was fabulous! It is a real eye opener.

  250. 251

Sounds like a great book! Thanks for the giveaway!

  251. I am all for what Jamie is trying to accomplish-but we really need to start with the parents who start giving their children chicken nuggets & french fries as soon as they get teeth!!!! Thats why we are such a FAT society!!!! I would love to change my way of cooking and start eating healthier and love Jamies show!!! What an inspiration to get motivated.
would also love to win the cookbook and start making changes!!

  252. 253
    Teresa R

I’m all over this. Hook me up with that book!

  253. 254

I love this show! It’s amazing and sad at the same time. The “healthy” lunches that we feed our children are a joke. I’ve started packing lunches for my children. Rock on Jamie – I hope you beat the system.

  254. 255

LOVE LOVE LOVE the SHOW! He needs to come to the MidWest!

  255. 256
    Tiffany D.

    Cool! I’d love that book

  256. 257
    Kayla C

I am loving the show! Someone has needed to shake up the school lunch system for a while now! Thank you Jamie! And thank you Jane for posting a link to the petition! I am begging all my Facebook friends to sign also!

  257. 258
    Jenn E.

I caught the second and third episodes and have learned a lot! I grew up going to a private school where we didn’t have a cafeteria, so the school piece has been particularly enlightening to me. I had no idea how bad that food was!

  258. 259
    Sam B.

I heard about this show, but just haven’t had time to sit and watch it. I will be catching up online tonight after reading this, though, and will be dvr-ing it from now on. Signing the petition now. 🙂

  259. 260

I LOVE Jamie’s cooking, philosophies, and his new show! It’s definitly time for a food revolution! I will be signing his petition and hope some changes come about from it. It’s a start!

  260. 261

I missed the first three episodes but was able to find the show on Hulu and I’m hooked. I am inspired and encouraged by Jamie’s passion and his genuine concern for the health of the children.

  261. 262
    MIchelle Smith

I teach High School Foods and Nutrition. Sometimes I feel like I am not reaching my tudents about the importance of a balanced diet. I am planning on showing Jaime’s show in class! I see everyday how poor nutrition is affecting our children.

  262. 263

I loved Jamie’s new show (and his accent!). I hope to bring this to our company’s daycare center.

  263. 264

i hope they change nutrition in schools before i have kids!

  264. 265

I generally didn’t eat the cafeteria coleslaw. Nasty!

  265. 266

I love Jamie’s passion, and love for all the kids. People could do a lot worse than fix food from scratch.

  266. 267

    The Naked Chef rocks!!

  267. 268
    Laura Glover

I love and respect Jamie’s goals and ambition. YES, I’d love this book. Thanks for the opportunity.

  268. 269

Our sons’ school started a healthy lunch program 3 years ago that every school in the district has copied since. We are so proud that our kids have a healthy hot lunch choice (when they aren’t eating our healthy cold lunches). Way to go Jamie! P.S. I would love to win his book too!

  269. 270

    Again?! So awesome, Lisa

  270. 271

I would love to read this book. I have heard a lot about his new show and I would love to read up and get caught up on everything.

  271. 272

    What a great giveaway! Thanks.

  272. 273

green is my favorite color, especially now!

  273. 274
    Rachel L

My husband and I love watching Jaime’s Food Revolution. We don’t have kids yet, but when we have little ones in the future, I definitely do not want them eating what they are serving in schools today. I am also super thankful that my mom packed me lunch every day when I was a child!

  274. 275

Pack lunch for my kiddos everyday. Plus-I’m so lucky to have boys who LOVE broccoli and spinach (thanks popeye!) We eat lots of fruits and veggies at our house and I’m so glad!

  275. 276

Love the show and would really love his book!

  276. 277
    Lori P.

Already my favorite TV show and I would love to win his book!

  277. 278

Here’s to hoping for another gem to add to the collection!

  278. 279
    Lisa Sherrill

thank you to jamie oliver for bringing awareness to this issue!

  279. 280

We also love his show and think the work he is doing is wonderful. Enjoyed reading your post.

  280. 281

I’d love a copy!! We love watching this show!!

  281. 282
    Sumin Kim

It was so inspiring to see the kids cook a whole meal in last week’s episode. We shouldn’t dummy down the food they eat b/c they are kids. They should learn from home and demand quality food at school. I still can’t believe my child is eating the same food I ate 30 years ago so that’s why I pack his lunch every day. Hoping this Food Revolution will catch on.

  282. As a work at mom of a 5yo & a 3yo, I am even more grateful than prior to having children for Jamie. Grateful for simple but incredible recipes and grateful that he has stepped up to make changes in our school systems.

  283. I’ve been so impressed that someone has finally found the fortitude to SAY something! My 10 year old grandson is watching the programs (and now he won’t eat chicken nuggets, lol) But Jamie is right, this is where we need to start, it’s going to take several generations to undo what we’ve done for the last 2 or 3 generations.

  284. 285

Love Jamie’s Food Revolution! Not only is the concept awesome, the recipes are great too!

  285. 286
    Jenny Worthington

    fingers are crossed!!!

  286. 287

I have signed the petition and I have the book, it’s great! I think everybody should go out and get one!

  287. My family and I love watching Jaime’s Food Revolution. And I love Jamie’s passion, and love for all the kids. Good job, Jamie!
