Karma Keeps Me Humble and Cream of Tartar Is NOT Immortal

Remember that time when I started writing for Babble and was feeling pretty good about myself and all cool and stuff and also suddenly had to create content for that site in addition to maintaining my own blog so I decided to do a post a week on Babble sharing my most reliable and favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes because that would be a service to the world at large and because I’m totally obsessed with chocolate chip cookies and I decided for the first recipe I would share the Amish Chocolate Chip Puff Cookie recipe that was maybe my most reliable chocolate chip cookie recipe to date and I wanted to make them again so I could shoot a new photo for Babble and because they are so darn good but then I procrastinated and made the cookies the day I was scheduled to publish the post and then the cookies came out flat as freaking pancakes and not puffy and Amish-y at all and I realized karma was making sure I didn’t let things go to my head and karma also made sure a mom from school who I had just met and who had just found out I had a food blog was there to witness my awesome kitchen skills?

Yeah, I remember that time. Just like it was yesterday. Wait, it was yesterday.

I may have a food blog, but apparently that doesn’t mean anything. Just so ya know.

P.S. I made the cookies again today, with cream of tartar purchased today instead of 7 (8? 10?) years ago and, turns out, it is a fool-proof cookie recipe! Apparently cream of tartar is kind of important to this recipe AND it does in fact stop working after years and years and YEARS of sitting in the spice cupboard.

P.S.Again. I did end up getting a nice, new photo of these yummy cookies and wrote about them today on Babble. It’s a great recipe, be sure to check it out!

I had a similar experience with brand new baking powder and my no fail pancake recipe. Oddly enough when it’s new, they actually rise.

That was THE BEST run-on sentence I’ve ever read! Haha! 🙂 And yes, I’ve learned over the years to go through my spices/baking ingredients and update them!

thanks! perhaps I should write in run-on more often! 😉

it’s so easy NOT to update the spice cupboard, I need to be better, obviously!

Lol at the run on sentence 🙂
As an Indian, it really bothers me when Indian words are used/spelled wrong(sorry!).
It’s not kHarma, but karma 🙂

I’m so glad you said something, and I can’t believe I did that – the word karma is a total mental hiccup for me…every time I use it, I look it up and see I did it wrong…again. Unfortunately I didn’t get as far as that step this time around! 😉 thx!

  4. I was listening to Martha Stewart on Sirius the other day and she was talking about how you need to replace both cream of tarter and baking soda every 6 months for everything to bake correctly. Baking soda usually hangs around my baking cabinet for about a year… cream of tarter… probably three or more years. Oops!

    • Jane Maynard

      every 6 months?!? holy smokes!

the expiration date on the cream of tartar I just bought is for october 2016…so maybe a happy medium between that and martha would be best…hopefully!

that reminds me…my mascara is getting pretty old, too. 😉

you are funny! the run-on had me completely out of breath and i wasn’t even reading out loud!
your reply to the comment on kharma/karma totally made me smile because i have so many words like that. i’m a bad-speller that was put into a family of perfectionists… so i’m ALWAYS second guessing my spelling like that. in fact i have a post entitled “shepherd’s pie -spelled correctly” because i spelled it wrong about 3 times prior to posting the recipe.
and then… your mascara is getting pretty old. 🙂

  6. I have this fear for when people are coming to eat over! My husband is currently in school and wants to have his study group over for dinner and said how they always comment when I send him to school with certain leftovers but I just know if I cook them that will be the day they turn out horrible!

murphy’s law definitely doesn’t ignore the kitchen! 😉 you’re so cute!

  8. You’ll for certain do not have something to lose with Adiphene,
thus for those that actually need to slim while not
losing their time and power, then Adiphene is that the product for you.
The huge distinction between Adiphene and Adipex is that Adiphene is a product that uses a sequence of natural and secure to use ingredients.

Different studies have demonstrated the profits of Ginseng Panax
    Root Extract.
