Owen is here!

Just wanted to put a quick post up and let you know that Baby Boy Maynard has arrived! AND he has a name…Owen!

I was scheduled for an induction, but ended up going into labor on my own a few hours earlier. Unfortunately there were some complications and we ended up having a very fast emergency c-section, but both Owen and I are doing very well now and we go home tomorrow!

Thank you ALL for your baby name ideas, well wishes and support! Off to snuggle with my son…

Congratulations! If our second daughter had been a boy, she would have been an Owen too!
Take care after having the c-section. I had two… take it easy on yourself!

    • Jane Maynard

this is my first experience with a cesearan…I will follow your wise advice to a t! πŸ™‚

    • Amy

Try not to rush yourself. I am clearly not an expert in the field but I have had two sections. Walk around when you feel like it… sit down a lot.. and promise me (even though you do not know me) that you will not lift anything heavier than your new baby for the next few weeks. It is so hard when you have older children that you want to pick up and hold too… don’t do it! As hard as it may seem… be gentle with yourself…and make up for lost time with your older children after you are done healing inside. πŸ™‚

    • I’ve had 2 c-sections also and I agree about not picking up heavy stuff! After my second c-section a hernia formed months later where the scar was and I had to have a hernia repair. Then about a week later I found out I was pregnant with #3! Anyway, a hernia repair surgery is a loooong recovery because I couldn’t pick up my kids (ages 1 & 2 now) for 6 whole weeks while it healed! Luckily my MIL came for the whole 6 weeks to help out a LOT (I’m so grateful for her) but I felt so bad that I couldn’t even pick up my own babies. :/ Anyway, take it sloooow for the next 6 weeks – even if you feel 100% better!

I couldn’t agree more with Amy. Stay on top of your pain meds they give you and don’t skip it. Set the timer if u need to. Also, don’t decide the pain has gone away long before you run out. It will come and go as you heal. Im sure you will have help…take full advantage.
I had to explain to my near three year old that “mommy had a big owie and couldn’t pick him up”. So we made a little calendar of the day when I knew I would be in the clear and we would cross off the days. He hot used to it and understood the waiting part and I think the visual helped a lot.
May you heal well and may you enjoy every wonderful second with Baby Owen, Congrats!

    • Jane Maynard

Rest up! And get take-out! A lot!

Congratulations! He is beautiful. My best advice for new moms: stay in your pajamas for as long as possible (we’re talking weeks here). As soon as you put on “real” clothes, everyone thinks you are fine and ready to tackle life at full steam. Pajamas are your friend!

He is an amazing baby – beautiful!!

I had an un-scheduled c-section at the last minute with my daughter, and it can be kinda scary when you’re not prepared for it. Strangely the recovery from the c-section was a piece of cake compared to the migraine headache I had for about 1 week after I got home from the hospital =(
