Real Maple Syrup is the Only Maple Syrup

Since I’m all fired up today, might as well state my unwavering opinion on syrup. If it’s not real-live syrup from a maple tree, it’s not worth eating. There, I said it. And I KNOW there are those of you out there who would disagree. We’ll just chalk it up to insanity.

And, yes, I do spend like 10, okay maybe even 15, extra dollars per bottle of syrup. I am unwilling to cut this item from our budget, bad economy or no.

(The syrup pictured is from our friends, the Blackwells, in New Hampshire.  They tap and make maple syrup.  Pretty cool hobby, eh?)

Amen to that! And I say Organic is the only way to go.

I totally agree and share your passion for the real stuff. Always splurge on quality over disgusting fake imitations is my motto. Also, it is MUCH better for you than the other options.

okay, I gotta disagree with you on this one, only because syrup is not a live or die food for me. So to cut calories (yes, i’m actually saying this) I go for a lite syrup-aunt jemima actually. But hey! I’m crazy like that…I also spray my toast w/butter spray- can you believe I’m admitting this on a food blog?!!!

So weird, but I was JUST emailed 2 articles on the threats of HFCS… weird coincidence! So had to jump back here to say, okay…i might switch over and use honey…. (it’s cheaper than syrup at the moment).

Once in college, I had a friend invite me over for pancakes. He made sure to proudly tell me that he even made the syrup himself. I think he was looking to impress, but I just can’t do maple flavored sugar syrup. Not growing up where they make the real deal.

For me, it’s the real thing or nothing!

We’re one of those weird families who eat the imitation stuff, not because its cheaper, but because none of us particularly like the flavor of the real deal. *ducking from the flying objects*
Actually, I hardly ever eat syrup at all–I prefer jam or powdered sugar.

  8. I totally have the Blackwell’s syrup in my kitchen! It’s the best!! I leave the cheap stuff for my kids (gasp!). Once in a while, if they promise to REALLY enjoy it, I’ll give them a little.

Even my 3 year old won’t eat fake syrup. She told me that she didn’t want to eat the syrup at Grammy’s house because it doesn’t taste good. It is not liek our syrup at home! I haven’t been able to sway my west coast in-laws from the dark side!

I went sugaring off once – it was lovely…hot maple syrup on snow and chewy! Gee, that must have been 50 years ago…We still use the real stuff.

Are you kidding? We’re in their stake and have gone up to watch them process the sap!! They even let my 2 year-old help out.

I am a professed syrup snob. Only the real thing will ever cross my lips. I’m so glad that Costco sells it.
