Week 192 Menu

Another birthday has come and gone…and with it delicious cake. Nate picked up this chocolate mousse cake from Mayfield Bakery for my big day yesterday. Perfectly moist chocolate cake layered with bittersweet chocolate mousse…and a few raspberries mixed in here and there, but not overpowering in flavor. Mmmmmm.

It was a good birthday. On Friday night a few friends held a little fΓƒΒͺte, where they gave me an adorable loaf pan and their favorite recipes. I am blessed to have such thoughtful, good friends. Yesterday we went on a picnic in Alameda, where we could look across the bay at San Francisco while we ate and enjoyed the sunshine. Then, after dinner, we ate this beautiful cake and the girls and Nate gave me a BIKE. I’m so excited about it! (In case you’re wondering, riding a bike is not like riding a bike…I’m a little scared to get on that thing after, oh, 15 years or so of not riding. If Cate can do it, I can…right?)

We ended the day with a babysitter coming over so Nate and I could go to a movie. All day people asked, “What are you going to do for your birthday?” And I would respond, “Nate and I are going to go see The Town.” EVERY time they said, “Oh, fun! What are you going to do in the city?” Β That movie name is confusing, people. The movie was a good shoot-em-up-and-end-up-rooting-for-the-bad-guy kind of film and had me thinking in a Boston accent for a few hours. The North End chase scene was awesome.

Enough about me, time to get to business!

  1. Scott was out of town, and this week is my turn. Away from Scott & Shelby for the whole week! Then, my parents are coming in on Friday! So, it’s going to be a no-frills menu! I cooked up a vat-ful of rice as a go-to “toddler alternative.” So, they should be set!

    Sunday: Out with friends visiting from Seattle
    Monday: Applesauce Pancakes (made mix ahead of time…and the applesauce! Yum! I hope there’s some left when I get home)
    Tuesday: Burgers on homemade buns
    Wednesday: Chicken on the grill
    Thursday: Pasta
    Friday: Italian Beef in the slow cooker
    Saturday: Out with the grandparents
    Sunday: Out with the grandparents

    Still on the go with football, my husband is coaching…and pre-soccer madness. Looked at the calendar last night to discover only a few free weekends left between now and Christmas!!! Sigh…that is why I call this time of year the chute….seems I step in at the end of August and emerge in January wondering what happened! So here is a chute week menu πŸ™‚

    Monday: BBQ Hamburgers (on the new grill)
    Tuesday: Make your own subs before football (we are tired of take-out subs)
    Wednesday: Salad Rolls (adults) and Costco Pizza and Veggies (kids)
    Thursday: Cashew Chicken (everyday foods) and Rice
    Friday: Satay Beef Skewers and Rice
    Saturday: Friends over? Menu? I need to sort this out ASAP.

    leftover lasagna, mac n’ cheese for Sam, side salad, crusty bread and baked apples for dessert.

    tilapia with lemon pepper, squash and broccoli

    black bean burgers (from Costco) with avocado, side salad and Rocky Road pie for dessert (jello pudding recipe – will post later).

    pasta with alfredo sauce, peas, fresh mushrooms and cubed ham, spaghetti for Sam, Italian blend veggies (from bag) and crusty bread.

    I had fallen off the meal planning wagon for awhile but have jumped back on with such gusto that I’ve cooked virtually a whole week’s worth of meals this weekend – and even planned my work outfits for the week!

    I have never posted my menu after a year or two of reading, but we just went shopping and I can see the future clearly now so here goes!

    Sunday: Tofu stir-fry with kale and peanut sauce (we are trying kale for the first time and figure anything tastes good with peanut sauce! πŸ™‚ )

    Wednesday: Taco Soup – the easiest, yummiest crockpot meal that ever was

    Monday = chicken tortilla soup
    Tuesday – ham, green beans, baked potato for me and mac n cheese for the kids
    Wednesday – crock pot pork chops with brown sugar and apple juice, not sure of the sides to go with this yet.
    Thursday – buffalo chicken wraps and corn
    Friday – grilled chicken cola marinade, savory couscous, green salad
    Saturday – bell pepper steak wraps, green beans, rolls
    Sunday – chicken taquitos, black beans, mexican rice

    Don’t have as much time for cooking now that school work is really picking up, but I’m looking forward to making a Tuna Noodle Casserole and some Lentil & Swiss Chard soup this week. And I made some super easy donuts today that I’ll be posting tomorrow. πŸ™‚

    I have been back to regular menu planning for a few weeks now and I can tell you it’s eased the chaos at home as well as helping me save money!!

    Monday- Crockpot chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce with whole wheat egg noddles and sauteed Brussell Sprouts

    Tuesday- Pasta probably- mom is heading out for dinner with the girls!

    Wednesday- Breakfast for dinner

    Thursday- Deviled Microwave drumsticks, roasted asparagus and couscous

    Friday- Tacos with mini pork meatballs

    Saturday- We’re out apple picking all afternoon so I think it may be pizza or take out or leftovers!

    This week my husband is away most of the week and I’m playing with a sous vide machine I get to demo til Friday. So this is what the menu will look like:

    Thursday: Filet Mignons to get that perfect pink center
