Week 226 Menu

Another Sunday, another menu. Where does the time go? When Nate realized this week that we’re over halfway through the pregnancy (23 weeks today, in fact), I think he almost fainted. Before I know it we’re going to be sitting in our rockers on the front porch with great-grandchildren running around our feet!

This is another photo from the many I took at Cafe Borrone on Friday. Couldn’t you just dive into those berries?! Summer is coming – yea!!

– Spring rolls from the freezer

Easy Peasy Bean Tacos, with grilled peppers and onions
– Guacamole and chips

– Picnic dinner for the preschool Hoedown (sandwiches and such)

– Eat out (dentist appointments late afternoon)

– Homemade hamburgers (the only thing we didn’t get to on last week’s menu)

– Breakfast for dinner! I have an idea for stuffed french toast that I’m going to experiment with…will report back on that next week!

Time to share your illustrious menus. Or non-illustrious. I’m not picky. ALSO…sorry I didn’t respond to any of your comments or menus last week, I woke up with the flu on Monday. I was completely useless for a few days. But we’re back to normal this week!

  2. My word but those berries are just so gorgeous. Makes me long for summer days again and they have just passed here 🙂 Good luck for the second half of your pregnancy. The time really does fly by….I sit here and remember my own pregnancies while waiting for my two grandsons to come for late Sunday cuddles and giggles! Nice menu. Have a good week xx

    Thursday – Something chicken – not sure yet maybe roasted
    Friday – pizza with the two grandsons
    Saturday – Baked Italian Meatballs the Tyler Florence way. Love his recipes!

  6. Back from a business trip, featuring delays and other drama, and home for a week of relative normal.

    Sunday: Takeout. Driving home from PA.
    Monday: Roasted pork tenderloin (
    Tuesday: Spinach salad with chicken, dried fruit, pecans and homemade lemon vinaigrette. Hottest day of the week calls for measures to be taken.
    Wednesday: Sliders
    Thursday: Fend for yourself. The Wife has a school function.
    Friday: Out for The Wife’s birthday.
    Saturday: Boeuf bourguignon

    We’re going on vacation this week so I’ve tried to keep things simple so that I can focus on getting ready to go.

    Sunday: Black bean burgers and baked cinnamon yams
    Monday: Meatball subs and salad
    Tuesday: Baked potatoes with broccoli and cheese, salad
    Wednesday: Tacos
    Thursday: Chocolate chip pancakes
    Friday: Vacation
    Saturday: Vacation

    MONDAY: Grilled burgers and grilled asparagus
    TUESDAY: Pork tenderloin and salad
    WEDNESDAY: Veggie curry and brown rice
    THURSDAY: Grilled steaks with baked potato and tomato salad
    FRIDAY: Oven baked (or grilled) trout fillet and salad
    SATURDAY: Black beans, rice, tomatoes and corn salad (or casserole if the weather doesn’t cooperate
    SUNDAY: Grilled lemon chicken, BBQ Potato thing

    sun-ribeye and shrimp wrapped in bacon w/ mashed potatoes for the boys and sweet potato for me!

    sat-bbq slowcooker ribs with baked apples and cornbread
    sun-whatever david decides because im out of ideas!

    Glad you’re feeling better. Pregnant and sick is never fun.

    Th – gyoza or something else easy a la Obaachan. Dr visit for #2 in the late afternoon.
    Fr – taco salad & Grandma comes!!!
    Sa – weeding & BBQ at church, plus Anniversary something. Maybe.
    Sun – Daddy. No, we aren’t eating him, he’s just the one cooking.

  14. I think I had the same flu. Knocked me on my keister for a couple days! But, I think the beautiful weather helped me recuperate.

    Sunday: Meatball Burger on homemade buns and grilled corn on the cob
    Monday: General Tso’s Chicken in slow cooker
    Tuesday: Asparagus Ravioli (Bitten Word)
    Wednesday: Dinner at Church.
    Thursday: Whole Roasted Chicken & Crispy Potato Roast (Smitten Kitchen)
    Friday – Saturday: Grandparents here!….hard to say what the plans are!

    Those berries do look amazing! We got some strawberries at the farmer’s market this weekend to usher in summer. And then the weather did the same with a blazing hot day and ridiculous humidity. What can I say? You win some and lose some!

    Sunday – Lentil shepherd’s pie
    Monday – honey-lime broiled salmon and orzo
    Tuesday – hot and sour noodles with tofu and spinach
    Wednesday – Miso shrimp salad
    Thursday – Collards and black eyed peas
    Friday – kale pesto from the freezer over pasta (never got to it last week)

    • Jenn – I wasn’t going to blog about this because it wasn’t our favorite. But then we had leftovers for lunch today and they were great! Your request for the recipe gave me motivation to post it. Here ya go!

      Thanks so much. It looks really good. I will let you know how we customize it and what the verdict is when we try it out. Just a warning though, it might be a couple of weeks before I can work it into the menu. I hope you have a good week.

    I’m starting to notice how repetitive my menus are now that I’m sharing them here. Maybe it’s just proof that they are good meals. 🙂

    Sunday – BBQ with extended family (the side dishes were the stars though, we had vegetable tian, spinach tart, melon salad, and pasta salad)
    Monday – Janna’s Chicken
    Tuesday – Spaghetti & meatballs
    Wednesday – Chicken Parm
    Thursday – leftovers
    Friday – pancakes

      I actually notice the same thing with my menus. sometimes I just go to a random menu from a year or two ago and am always surprised at the things I’ve forgotten about that used to be one of my “rut” foods! it is funny how we get in the ruts and don’t even realize it…

      but I like you’re approach. if they repeat, they must be fabulous! 😉

    Sunday-haystacks: take some tortilla chips, drop spoonfuls for refried beans over the chips, cover with shredded cheese, place in over at 350 degrees until cheese bubbly, removed, top with tomato, lettuce, sour cream, avocado, salsa, green onion, cilantro, onion or anything else you like.

    Monday-Noodles in a peanut sauce

    Tuesday-Fiesta night, tacos, Spanish rice, Mango smoothies

    Wednesday-sandwich night (aka-kids have sports and need something quick to eat). Choices will include grilled cheese, Morning Star Chik Patties, Black bean burgers, served with fruit and over roasted fries.

    Thursday-Pasta night, whole wheat linguine with olive oil, pine nuts, garlic, chopped basil, tomato. Served with a salad, green beans.

    Friday-we made it through the work week…yay….time to enjoy a night out for dinner.

    Saturday-homemade pizza night. Well, sort of homemade, using the premade crusts and topping with our favorite ingredients, served with salad, smoothies.

    Sunday-driving to San Fran, some sort of seafood no doubt and of course the clam chowder I get every time I go.

    I just want to thank you all for your menus – they really do inspire me each and every week. And my other half appreciates not having to eat the same things over and over. Now we just rotate a LOT of great meals, and we’re lucky to eat the same things once a month!

    Yesterday’s brunch was AWESOME!! I made “Chorizo Garbage Plate” – a recipe I found online, and then smothered it in green chili! Just about THE best breakfast I’ve had since I moved from Denver…

    Sun: Beer-can chicken (made with sprite instead) w/ roasted sweet potato and carrots
    Mon: Burgers w/ fries smothered in green chile-cheese sauce
    Tue: Thai Chicken Tacos
    Wed: Cajun Chicken Pasta
    Thu: Pork Roast sammies (from the crockpot)
    Fri: Leftovers
    Sat: Carnitas w/ copycat Chipotle cilantro-lime rice

    Last week of May…can’t wait to post the June meal plan later in the week! Here goes:
    Sunday: Roast boneless turkey breast with tarragon and chives, green beans, purple asparagus with hollandaise, and mashed potatoes
    Monday: Whole wheat Farfalle with creamy wild mushroom sauce, sourdough bread, salad
    Tuesday: Slow cooker — California barbecued chuck roast with veggies, corn muffins
    Wednesday: Homemade pizzas and salad, fruit
    Thursday: Grilled sandwich night (using leftovers etc), fruit, veggie platter
    Friday: Fend night
    Saturday: Dinner with the folks.

    OK–not really sure the order of these, but will throw out what I’m thinking this week:

    Sunday–Ground Beef Tacos, refried beans, nachos and guacamole
    Monday–Vodka pasta with garlic bread and bacon spinach salad
    Tuesday–Coconut shrimp with sweet potato fries
    Wednesday–Burgers on the grill, chips, corn and tomato salad
    Thursday–Egg rolls and homeade fried rice
    Friday-Monday–at home with parents and sister

    Monday – grilled chicken leftovers from the weekend, fresh cukes in vinegar and some roasted squash and zucchini
    Tuesday- baked ziti, garlic bread, fresh salad
    Wednesday – skillet burgers, homemade fries, fruit salad
    Thursday – pizza and wine for a girl’s night out party at my house. Depending on time, may make homemade, we’ll see….
    Friday-Sunday – smore’s hotdogs, hamburgers, roasted corn on cob, lots of chips – CAMPING. Got any good campfire recipes?

      We always made Banana Boats as kids. Take a banana in it’s peel and make a cut halfway through the length of the banana. Then stuff it with marshmallows, chocolate chips and nuts. Then Wrap it all in tin foil and toss on the campfire until its a warm gooey mess! Yum!

      You can do sweet potatoes in the ashes of the campfire — cut the sweet potatoes in half lengthwise, place a pat of butter, sprinkling of cinnamon, and drizzle of either honey or maple syrup (you could also use brown sugar) in the middle and squish the potato back together. Wrap tightly in foil and bury in the embers of the fire. Check them every 20 minutes or so, but they should take about 50-60 minutes to bake completely through and be ooey gooey delicious on the inside.

    A purchase of a new family vehicle this month has made me very mindful of our meal planning, and trying to really stretch our food budget. The past 2 weeks I’ve miraculously managed to shave $20-$30 off our weekly budget – this week’s meal plan…

    Sun – roasted chicken, roasted veggies, baked sweet potato
    Mon – chicken quesadillas with leftover roasted chicken
    Tues – baked ziti w/ leftover freezer meatballs
    Wed – veggie pizza & salad
    Thurs – slow cooker BBQ pork chops, butter noodles, broccoli
    Fri – breakfast dinner

  39. Congrats on being halfway through with your newest blessing! I always thought the last half went 3x faster than the first half. (That whole morning sickness thing throws a wrench in things!)

    Monday: pita hummus and ground turkey pitas (called hummus bilerfeh lahem according to the recipe)

    Wednesday: pasta w/tomato basil sauce
    Thursday: grilled chicken, grilled bread, grilled veggies
    Friday: leftovers
    Saturday: not sure yet- maybe fish tacos?

    Thursday: (big family dinner) Beef roast w/ potatoes & carrots (crockpot), roasted brussel sprouts, lima beans, marinated veggies, southern style greens, cornbread

    Friday: Leftovers

    Saturday: more Leftovers OR out w/ family
