Where have you been all my life, Scoop?

Remember the kitchen disaster story contest? Remember how I came in second and didn’t win the $3500 Pampered Chef shopping spree? In all honesty, I was totally fine with not winning. I loved reading all of your fantastic disaster stories and my life is just as happy with or without oodles of kitchen gadgets floating around my house. However, there was one item that I was intent on using my winnings to purchase. When I didn’t win, that one item came immediately to mind. I begged The Pampered Chef people to hook me up with this item. Which they did. They’re nice like that.

So, what is this item I was dying to get my hands on?  A scoop. For scooping cookie dough. I’ve wanted one for years and, for whatever reason, just never got one. The Pampered Chef folks were kind enough to send me their medium and large scoops. Well, I finally used both of them for the first time this week.

And, can I say, I don’t know how I lived without them!!!

The medium scoop was PERFECT for cookies. It was so easy to bang out cookie dough ball after cookie dough ball, all perfectly shaped, all exactly the same size. Why has no one insisted I get one before now? This scoop seriously rocks my cookie world.

The large scoop is pretty big, so I wasn’t entirely sure I would use it that often. I rarely make giant cookies. But then, this past Sunday, as I was making pancakes and dribbling batter all over the pan off the back of my 1 cup measuring cup that I always use to pour the batter with (that was a mouthful!), I thought about that large scoop. I pulled it out and…yup…it worked like a charm. The batter poured into the pan so nicely and all the pancakes were the same size. I love it!

So, if you don’t have a scoop yet, get one. Or two. Because you need a smaller one and a bigger one. Life will never be the same!

Update 7/2014: I wrote an addendum to this post to specify that the Pampered Chef post is actually pretty awesome quality to other scoops we’ve tried. Click here for more info!

I’ve had this scoop for years! It’s honestly one of my favorite kitchen gadgets, I use it all the time! Everytime I go to a Pampered Chef party I tell people they must buy it.

  2. Jane, I got a scoop a while back (cookie dough sale for my son’s school – I didn’t buy cookie dough, just the scoop). Anyway, I just FINALLY used it for the first time (in over a year) this past weekend – and WOW! I totally agree, it’s amazingly awesome.

I have been coming up with all sorts of great uses for it (in my head of course) since then. Cake batter for cupcakes, cookies, giant melon balls, potato salad, guacamole, etc. Mine is pretty big, so I want to pick up a couple other sizes too. I’ll have to measure mine and then compare the sizing to those at the Pampered Chef.

I hadn’t thought about pancake (or waffle) batter. Genius!

  3. I’m amazed you just got scoops. I love my large one for muffins and even use it to evenly spread a thick cake batter in a bundt or mini loaf pans. I haven’t tried it for pancakes. Great idea.

  4. Is the large scoop the right size for cupcakes? I have been thinking I need one of those bad boys

    • Jane Maynard

the large scoop is about 3 tablespoons…I think it could possibly work for sure for cupcakes – I’ll have to try that out next time I make them!

Carina (comment #6) says that the large is perfect for muffins and cookies…so there’s your answer! (you can trust carina, she’s a fab cook!)

    • I only have the large scoop, which is much too big for cookies most of the time. But I LOVE it for cupcakes and muffin batter! It really helps with not making a mess!!

  5. How big were the cookies you made with the medium scoop? I’m awful about consistent cookie sizing, and I think this might be the answer! But I sometimes make really big cookies (like, five or six inches across) and was wondering if I should just get both sizes. I have a feeling you’re going to say yes. 🙂

    • Jane Maynard

so, the medium scoop is about 2 tablespoons. the cookie I made from that scoop I think were about 2 1/2″ in diameter, just your really standard size chocolate chip cookies. the large scoop is about 3 tablespoons – I think that scoop will definitely give you a nice BIG cookie! I haven’t use it yet for cookies, so I don’t know how many inches it would be…

hope that’s helpful! and YES, get both sizes! 😉

I’ve got a small, medium, and large scoop. I use the medium for cookies. The large is perfect for muffins and cupcakes!

I don’t know how I ever made cookies without my scoop either, I can’t live without it!

I don’t know if I have a small or medium, but I love it for cookies. I actually bought it with their mini muffin pan. I was sold on the idea of cleanly transferring just the right amount of muffin batter. Great little gadget!

I TOTALLY need one of these and don’t understand how I don’t have one in my life already. Looks like something I’ll be adding to the wedding registry 🙂

They are also awesome for meatballs. I just made some tonight and my husband thought I bought they because they were all the same size. Just makes it easier, I still roll them in my hands just helps with sizing.

  12. I need a scoop too and I also don’t understand why I don’t have any. I’ve know for years about their many uses and yet don’t buy on I think it may finally be time

I use mine pretty much every day for everything. Love them. I use them for pancakes and waffles, and last night I made a last-minute no-bake-cookie treat and voila. Perfectly sized blobs of oats and cocoa.

PS don’t bother with the grocery store scoops. Invest in a good one b/c the one I got at Walmart lasted about 3 months before the scraper thingie just stopped working.

  14. Love versatile products like these scoops that you can use for a myriad of different things. Wonder if anybody still uses theirs for ice cream?

  15. The cookie scoop I ordered over the weekend just arrived today! Can’t wait to put it in service. 🙂

Recently lost by beloved scoop 🙁 really need another one. I used it for muffins too, less about consistancy than to prevent getting batter on the muffin tin, plus great for kids to use.

The scoop is my FAVORITE Pampered Chef item!

  18. I honestly don’t know how you lived without scoops…I’m completely in love with mine. Mine aren’t Pampered Chef, but they are still lovely. A fun wedding gift is your favorite cookie recipe, some non-perishable ingredients, and a scoop or two. Fabulous!

  19. I’ve got both of them and they are handy to have around if you bake as much as I do. 🙂

I’ll just echo what you and everyone else has said, I too love scoops. I have owned all 3 Pampered Chef scoops for a while. I love the large for pancakes, cupcakes/muffins and some other uses that I can’t think of. I use the medium for cookies and meatballs, the small scoop is also useful for cookies. When I use the small scoop for cookies I tend to actually end up with the number of cookies that a recipe predicts you will have. I find ways to use my scoops every week. I am quite protective of them and make sure that they don’t get anywhere near the ice cream. (Someone ruined my mom’s large scoop that way, so sad.)

I agree scoops are wonderful. I use them on anything that goes into a muffin tin, for cookie dough, meatballs, jello parfaits (makes it easy to layer the jello/pudding with the whip cream, mellons, my smaller one is about a tablespoon so use it to measure that out, which is much easier, and the smaller one makes perfect deviled eggs! Without my stainless small/large scoops and my small/large stainless whisks, I don’t know what I’d do! They are truly a kitchen must have. 🙂

  22. Love the scoops! I use the bigger one for muffins and the smaller for cookies but I also use them for making meatballs and potato pancakes/regular pancakes and anything I want to all be the same size 🙂 Such handy little gadgets

Michael was just telling me that we need to get some cookie scoops. I said “oh my cousin Jane just posted how much she loves here cookie scoops on her blog! We should get some like hers.” And I think we just might. Thanks for the great idea.

The bigger scoop would be perfect for scooping ice cream! I have one that looks very similar to yours that said ice cream scoop on it when I bought it.

I have three different scoops and have been using them as long as I’ve been making cookies (I also use them to scoop batter into cupcake/muffin tins). They’re life changers!
