My Holiday Wish List…and an AWESOME Black Friday Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed. Thank you!

It’s Black Friday. I must admit, I didn’t go shopping. Two years ago Nate and I got up at 4 am on Black Friday to purchase our T.V. It was worth it for that. But otherwise, I’m just not brave enough for this the greatest of all shopping days. Apparently that gene didn’t get passed down from my mother to myself!

Since I’m a wimp and didn’t hit the stores, I’m going to “celebrate” Black Friday right here on my blog. Today’s Mama is hosting a killer giveaway from GameStop and invited me to take part in the fun. They’re giving me a gift card to GameStop AND I get to give away a $250 GameStop giftcard to one of you! I’m pretty sure you could put that to good use now that holiday shopping is in full swing!

Please simplyΒ add a comment to this post to be entered for a chance to win the $250 GameStop gift card. If you want to join in the meme fun, feel free to answer one (or more) of the questions below, but you don’t have to – any comment will suffice! Your comment must be posted by Midnight PT on Wednesday, December 1. One entry per person and winner will be randomly selected and announced on December 2.

Here is my Holiday Wish List Meme:

1. What is your holiday wish for your family?
My holiday wish for my family is simple – that my girls grow up with great holiday memories. That’s it.

2. What is your Christmas morning tradition?
Christmas morning tradition? Get up, see what Santa left in the living room and then veg the entire day!

3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?
I would absolutely love to go on a trip to a hotel alone for 3 days. Preferably a hotel in a cute town by the beach. I’m thinking Carmel would suffice.

4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money?
Food, food and more food! Cooking Thanksgiving food with Cate this week has been really precious and wonderful. Reading books is also at the top of my list.

5. What games did you play with your family growing up?
Trouble, Candy Land, Parcheesi, Chutes & Ladders…oh and Monopoly, although I must admit I kind of had no clue what was going on. When we were older, Rook was a favorite, too. When I was in elementary school we got a Nintendo from Santa. We loved Super Mario Brothers and Tetris. And my mom, believe it or not, loved Zelda. She got addicted there for a while. πŸ˜‰

6. What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood?
As kids, Nate and I both would get pajamas from our parents on Christmas Eve, so we’ve continued that with our own children. My family always had a big Swedish feast on Christmas Eve, while Nate’s family ordered Chinese take-out. We’ve adopted the latter tradition, but I have started making Swedish meatballs for Christmas Day. Maybe one day I’ll tackle the amazing Swedish ham that my grandmother and mother always made.

7. Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip?
A cabin in the mountains with snow all around.

8. Check out GameStop and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year?
We have a PlayStation 3 (which plays Blu-Ray discs AND streams Netflix…it’s a dream). We definitely want to get the Move Controllers. Let’s see. Rock Band would actually be pretty rockin’ (ridiculous pun intended), so we need the drums, the microphone and the guitar for SURE.

Alright, people, get commenting! And Happy Black Friday!

  1. I’d love this gift card! My family members would love it more!

  2. 2
    Amy S.

My husband would go crazy if I won this!! Happy Black Friday!

  3. 3
    Kirstjen Pratt

We always played chicken foot dominoes together! It was always super competitive and well into the night.

  4. 4

My daughter is almost four and I’d love to get a game that’s at her level so she can join us playing on the Wii.

My husband’s family always had waffles for dinner on Christmas Eve. We have altered the tradition a little to honor my Danish roots, and we do aebelskivers instead of waffles that night.

  5. 5

We always make my grandmother’s doughnuts on Christmas morning! It’s the only time I make them so it’s extra special.

  6. 6

I totally agree and would have a Christmas away from home trip in a cabin in the mountains. Growing up and living in the bay area I have never had a white Christmas and think it would be amazing! However all my family would need to be there because that is what Christmas is about! Happy Holidays!!

  7. 7

We would LOVE to get some more Wii games since we all like playing that together and this $$ would be great for getting the Rock Band instruments. πŸ™‚

  8. My boys are asking Santa for a PS3 so this would help a lot!!

  9. 9

i battled the black friday scene at wal mart this year and it was WELL worth it. i bought my son a ton of toys. i always make sure i go on black friday because his birthday is december 30th and he will be 2! My holiday wish for my family is, as you had mentioned, to have wonderful memories! my family always opened 1 gift christmas eve, but my husband went to midnight mass. we wake up early and open our presents because i have to work EVERY year on christmas. you would be suprised at how many people come to eat at waffle house, especially in a military town.

  10. 10

Just in time for the holidays, I’d love to use this gift card to get some fun games for my 15 nieces and nephews!

  11. 11

Sounds fun and we are definitely lacking in the game department in this house!

  12. 12

What a treat a gift card to GameStop would be. We have 3 children and they all love to stop in there when we are in the mall. Making memories and being with family is definitely the top priority when it comes to the Holidays. Many Blessings!

  13. 13

How awesome. We all LOVE playing games on the DS and Wii

  14. 14

Fantastic giveaway. My answer to #1 is the same as yours. I just want my kids to have wonderful holiday memories. So far, so good.

  15. 15
    Lisa T

FOOD! That’s my best gift that costs less. Last year was homemade marshmallows and hot cocoa mix. This year…?

  16. 16
    Whitney L.

We need some PS3 controllers and the new donkey kong game on wii would be awesome! πŸ™‚ Great giveaway Jane.

  17. 17
    Stephanie Franklin

Our Christmas trip away from home would have to be one to Disneyworld to see the decorations.

  18. 18
    Kassie b

I stopped at walmart on the way home last night. Left without buying a thing. So not worh it.

  19. 19

I have a couple of in-laws that are big video game fans so this would probably be used to get their Christmas present. I also have a couple of Wii games and controllers that I would love to add to our system.

  20. 20

My wish for the holidays is that my Mum really does keep it simple, as she promised. Money is kind of tight for everyone this year, and she tends to go way overboard with gifts which is sweet, but unnecessary. This year we’re planning on a Secret Santa so we spend less time and money on shopping, wrapping, and unwrapping, and more time hanging out and cooking, playing games, watching movies, etc. If all goes as planned, it’ll be amazing!

  21. 21
    Alesia coffman

We have 3 kids and love to see them walk around the corner on Christmas morning and seeing the smiles on their face when they see what Santa has left for them. Being a parent and seeing that is all I want on Christmas !! We then spend the rest of the day with family and playing with all the new toys.

  22. What a great giveaway! could get my son lots of games for his game consoles!!

  23. We would go to Connecticut for a holiday getaway. My husbands family is there and my kids haven’t been in years.

  24. 24

For a few years, I thought Christmas was no big deal, then I had kids and they got big enough to anticipate the big day. Now Christmas is fun again, maybe even more fun than when I was a child! I can’t wait to watch my children on Christmas morning.

  25. 25

I love your answers–I agree that my kids having happy memories of the holidays is all I ask for. I used to be a little OCD about the “traditions” and wanting to make sure we thought of everything so we could start them all while they are young and have everything be a tradition. But its too much for one year–there are too many awesome ideas out there. So we have cinnamon rolls for breakfast, because both our families did that, and we have a few other yearly standards, but dinners change each year, travel plans vary, our choices for charities aren’t always the same. And our kids are loving all of it, so its all fine.

And as far as what we’d like, we got just got Guitar Hero 5, which you can use with drums and vocals, so we could use the accesories to get the whole family playing the game together.

  26. 26

We played Yahtzee growing up and still play it today as a tradition.

  27. 27
    Cheryl Scott

If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be? It would be to be able to give a large sum of money to any organization of my choice. That is what give me a sense of decadent wish.

  28. 28
    Jenni kaufusi

I would love to win! Such a great giveaway! I love playing any game with my family. It’s just nice to have family time.

  29. 29

This is a wonderful giveaway! ON christmas morning we wake up and have coffee cake before anything else!

  30. 30

What a wonderful giveaway! On Christmas morning our family gets up at the crack of dawn and immediatley we goto our stockings FIRST..

  31. 31

Almost all of our traditions are ones from my childhood. DH’s family doesn’t do much

    7. Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip?
    To visit family.

    8. Check out GameStop and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year?
Nickelodeon Fit, Harry Potter Deathly Hallows, and Epic Mickey.

  32. 32

Would love to be in a nice tropical location for the holidays!

  33. 33

Stockings and cinnamon rolls with pink icing–it’s a Dad thing. My boys would be thrilled with more from Game Stop. A GameStop just opened in our town and I suspect they know my boys by name! We played gin rummy when I was a kid but now the whole family enjoys WII bowling and tennis.

  34. 34

We are so excited for Christmas this year because baby #3 should be here any day!!

  35. 35
    Amy B.

For a Christmas away from home trip, we’d travel to Seattle, to celebrate the holiday with my in-laws. We don’t see them nearly enough.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
    Amy B.

  36. Can’t believe how fast this year has gone! Would love to get this and use it for my kids!

  37. 37

Our Christmas morning tradition is having creamed eggs. Boiled eggs on top of toast with a white sauce. Delicious! What a GREAT give away!

  38. 38

I wonder if my kids will fondly remember christmas eve gatherings where everyone hulas?

    thanks for the giveaway.

  39. 39

I could buy so many things for my nephews with that card!!

  40. 40

I would totally go to Vegas. With a bunch of gambling money. And stay out late and lay around the pool all day napping. I’m not sure why I decided to answer question 3. Maybe because my biggest excitement today was getting a pair of boots at Kohls for $1.86 after my discounts and gift card. πŸ™‚

  41. I can think of a lot of people in my life that I could buy for with that generous of a prize. Thanks Jane!

  42. ahhh me and my roommates would LOVE this gift card. we want to buy justdance so bad… it is so fun!

  43. 43

We have gamers in the family. They would appreciate this prize.

  44. 44

    Count me in.

  45. 45

My husband and I aren’t exchanging gifts this year so that we can use the money for our kids and our bills. This giftcard would be the perfect way to get him something that he would love and deserve!

  46. 46

Christmas eggs. Eggs, milk, cubed bread, dry mustard, cheese, bacon, AND sausage. YUM! Pure grease and pure goodness!!! πŸ™‚

  47. 47
    Auntie Deb

Time is the best holiday gift ever. I love spending time with my family! A gift card to Game Stop could be super great for spending time playing with the family!

  48. 48
    Stephanie Anderson

Every Christmas morning, we (my sisters and I) would have to line up in birth order and wait while my father got the video camera ready (the old kind with the really bright light that you use a video projector to show.) before we could see our gifts. Then, we would open the presents in the same order one by one.

  49. 49

My extended family always had a Christmas pageant. It started small with Mary, Joseph, one shepherd and one wiseman, but as more and more cousins arrived, the play included sheep, cows, donkeys, an entire angel choir, a whole host of shepherds, and even a drummer boy.

  50. 50

I’d go to either of the extremes for a getaway – either the snow covered mountains somewhere other than Utah (cause that’s just 20 minutes away!) or to a tropical beach somewhere. MMmmmmm… that sounds good – my feet are freezing right now!

  51. 51

I’d go to the south of France. Oysters are a Christmas tradition there and I love em! And the holiday is much more about family and feasting than about “what did you get me?” not so commercialized.

  52. 52
    Colleen Sanders

This would greatly enhance my Christmas Shopping. I may even be able to get a Dance game for myself. I am still like a kid at Christmas. Although now that I get to see it through the eyes of my children, it’s even better. I would love to make it extra special.

  53. 53

Food is the best gift!! If I didn’t make fudge each year I would be in big trouble.
GAMESTOP – $250 my 13 year old would hyperventilate if he knew there was a chance!

  54. With this gift card I would buy a PS Move and some fun new titles for Santa to give the little ones. We would un wrap it and then eat our traditional breakfst of bubble bread and Serbian eggs.

  55. Oh, this would be so fun to use. We’ve been contemplating a Wii for quite some time.

Our family wish for this Christmas is for a healthy baby sister(she’s due the 22nd). We have the most evil of Christmas traditions, started by my grandparents. We make the kids eat first. It’s generally anything, but fruit salad is always a must for part of it.

  56. 56
    Engor McRae

We would love to win this gift card….my kids want an x-box 360 SOOOOO Bad! Happy Holidays!

  57. 57

Christmas morning tradition: eating a huge breakfast including my mom’s delicious egg bake! Mimosas have begun to make an appearance as well… πŸ˜‰

  58. I’d love to get a Kinect and some games to play through the holidays.

  59. I’ve always wanted to visit New York for Christmas. I think it would be a great place to see.

  60. 60

What a cool giveaway! I’m NO black friday shopper either. I do like to go the day after Christmas though. Less people in the mad dash.

  61. 61
    Tina Ford

One tradition that we carry on in our family is opening one present on Christmas Eve…

  62. 62

we see santa then visit a train garden to start the christmas season

  63. 63

pick me, pick me! With a house full of boys, I’ll be the best mom in the world!

  64. 64

We went to Gamestop for Black friday and snagged some good games. The kids would LOVE a PS3!!

  65. Once the mania of pre-holiday preparations are over, we play games…we love Rummikub, Apples to Apples and Catch Phrase (which we take to places like Disneyland). It’s so much fun to sit around and laugh and talk together, even more so now that the kids are all grown up.

  66. 66

What a nice christmas present….i know someone that would love it j)

  67. 67

This would be an awesome christmas present for the kids!

  68. 68

I would buy us a wii so we could all play in the cold cold winter. Thanks!

  69. 69

Ooohh, my husband would love that! We have pumpkin pancakes for breakfast on Christmas morning.

  70. 70

If we could go anywhere for Christmas, it would definately be Paris!

  71. 71
    lindsay santa

The best thing about getting one of the game systems for Christmas would be getting all the family together and playing that dance game for all to see like on TV. Fun!

  72. 72

I did black friday last year and it was great at target. This year we slept thru it and went to Kmart…it was a zoo so we left. Deals are not deals when you have to wait in line for 2 hours!

  73. 73
    Daija H.

We do pajamas on Christmas Eve, too! My husband’s family always did it when he was young.

  74. 74

I think my honey would fall over backwards if I gave this to him for Christmas!

  75. 75
    Sara Padgett

What a great prize. Thanks for the chance to win!

  76. I really like this list!! I think I’ll have to answer it all on my blog tomorrow. Thanks!!

  77. 77

    Ooo pick me!

  78. Oh, what I could get the family with this gc! There seems to be alot of wii games popping up on Christmas lists, this year!

  79. 79

What a great give away! One of the traditions that we continued from my childhood is making oversized omelets on Christmas morning. YUM!

  80. 80

Our Christmas tradition is to eat traditional foods from our Mormon missions: Argentina and chile. I told my kids the only way we’d ever get a Wii is if we WON one!!

  81. 81
    Renee Olson

I grew up close to my cousins and we would play board games while the adults talked forever. I loved this tradition, and one of the most memorable games we played was called Hands Down. I wonder if they still make it.
I would love to win this give-away!

  82. 82
    Amber L.

Rockband would be the number one thing on my list for Game Stop! I love that game!

  83. 83

my son would love this giftcard!! good luck all–wishing everyone happy holidays.

  84. 84
    Chris Alkire

Great gift. Happy Thanksgiving. Love the Blog

  85. 85
    Nikki CB

    Q. What games did you play with your family growing up? We were a huge game family. Spades, hearts, cribbage, monopoly, life, pictionary, scrabble, taboo, etc.

  86. 86

we always had cinnamon rolls for breakfast Christmas morning, it’s a fun and delicious tradition to continue.

  87. 87

Nothing wrong with getting up early to scoop up a deal or two, but those people who camped outside Best Buy stores starting THURSDAY morning to try to snag one definitely need some help (especially when the temps in MN this week have been dropping to single digits overnight!).

  88. 88

We don’t have that many “traditional” traditions in my small family…but, we do manage to have an awesome time every year! My husband and I always allow our daughter to open one present on Christmas Eve and we always save a present for late Christmas Day. Other than those two things, nothing else stays the same…dinners, locations, family, and even the days we actually celebrate all change.

  89. 89

Wow, we NEED this giftcard this year! Ha! I will answer the gift I would like. If I could have a super indulgent gift, I would want a new car. I think a Jeep Commander would work out perfectly!

  90. 90

    Love this giveaway, Jane!

  91. 91

Love the blog and what a great giveaway!!

  92. 92

What one thing would I ask for from Santa?

A bigger house… I know it is kind of a huge thing to ask for, but right now we are in a tiny two-bedroom with me, my hubby, our 3-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter. I would just like to have a house just large enough that I could escape to another room or part of the house where I can’t hear every little thing that is going on. =)

  93. 93

One holiday tradition we did when I was a kid that I now do with my own family is baking and delivering plates of cookies to the neighbors. My kids love it!

  94. 94

After opening presents, our family would make a huge breakfast feast and invite friends over. Always on the menu, besides the breakfast staples like eggs bacon and sausage, were: Belgian waffles with strawberries, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream; abelskivers, a Nordic pancake ball; and german pancakes. We would usually finish breakfast just in time for lunch.

  95. 95

My holiday wish is that we would be able to spend Christmas TOGETHER. πŸ™‚ My daughter would absolutely love this GC. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  96. 96

My boys love gamestop and are always coming up with a new wii game they want.

  97. 97
    Zee S

I could really use this gift card since Santa will be bringing the Wii this year.

  98. 98
    Reynaul D

I would love to get this card from Game Stop! One tradition my family always does after we eat and eat some more is sit back and play games. Since we got the Wii, we have been having tons of fun playing Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune!! This card would be great to get some new games!!! Happy Holidays!

  99. Aw man, this would be a great gift for my husband, especially considering we’re not doing too much for Christmas this year since we’re saving up for a little one on the way. He really wants an xBox kinnect and the new “guitar” for Rock Band so this would be great!

    Awewsome giveaway!

  100. 100

I could put the giftcard to good use!

  101. 101
    Charles R

This would be a fantastic gift for my inner-child! I remember when I was a kid playing the board game ‘Trouble’ with the little plastic bubble you had to push down; that was the height of game-tech πŸ™‚

  102. 102

i have four boys, need i say more?

  103. 103
    Maria Pitts

My holiday wish for all my family is that they make beautiful and special memories during this holiday season.

  104. 104

Wow, if I won the card I could get presents for my nieces and nephews they would actually like! Our Christmas tradition is to open presents on Christmas Eve then on Christmas we hang out all day and eat!

  105. 105

Love this! My husband would die! πŸ™‚

  106. 106

My husband would LOVE this…although I’d probably end up using it πŸ™‚

  107. 107

We also give Christmas pj’s — a good way for everyone to look presentable on Christmas! We love to get up all together, open presents and then have a wonderful Christmas brunch. I’d love that gift card. With two boys my Christmas list includes Kinect and other games!

  108. 108

My mom used to make a savory bread pudding for Christmas breakfast–it sets overnight so all you have to do is pop it in the oven as the kids are getting up to discover all the loot. I’ve continued this tradition and also do a sweet bread pudding. Hope you have a wonderful holiday planned, Jane!

  109. 109

Pajama Fairy visits on christmas eve – everyone gets a new pair of pj’s that “magically” appear on each persons bed after church. I don’t know why this is so exciting but it has been every since I was a little girl and now my children go crazy for this. It is really sweet to all be in coordinating jammies for pictures on christmas morning.

Also, christmas morning is cinnamon buns and champagne – so fun!

  110. 110
    Kim B

I always listened to the Muppets Christmas album while we decorated our Christmas tree growing up and I have continued this tradition with my family now. I’m pretty sure that my husband and son wouldn’t mind skipping it but I would!

  111. 111
    Amanda L.

My husband grew up with Christmas morning popovers, which is a tradition that we are hoping to keep up for our own family. Yumm!

  112. 112
    Marita M

Every Christmas morning we make baked french toast, it’s great because you can put it together the day before and just pop it in the oven Christmas morning.

  113. 113

OH! What a great give away! I am enjoying snow and online shopping!

  114. 114
    Lori H

Great giveaway! I would love to be able to get a few things from my son’s wish list! He loves Gamestop.

  115. 115

Games and puzzles are always a big part of our holidays (we’re working on one right now as a matter of fact). Our kids love playing Life, Sorry and Uno. And I love playing right along with them!

  116. 116
    Michelle Smith

A tradition I had as a child and have carried on with my own chilren is that everyone gets a new ornament every year. We try to find something that celebrates the year for each child. For example, my daughter started playing the violin this year so she will get a violin ornament. I love looking at the box of my ornaments and thinking about why my parents choose each one. I hope my children will do the same…it makes putting up the tree even more special.

  117. 117

Awesome giveaway, I can’t wait for Christmas!

  118. 118

One of my favorite Christmas traditions from my husband’s side of the family is doing hard puzzles together and eating yummy clam chowder on Christmas Eve. I don’t even like clams but on Christmas Eve, everything its good.

  119. 119
    Michelle Machado

We would love to have this gift card. The kids are getting a nice surprise from Santa, and this would fit the theme perfectly.

  120. 120

    daddy needs a Wii!

  121. 121

This gift card would be great for my husband, it would keep him busy this winter when the weather gets cold.

  122. 122

    Gamestop….Santa’s best friend!

  123. 123
    Sara Denoncourt

    Miss you Jane! -SB

  124. 124

Yankee Swap is always the highlight of Christmas. You never know what you are going to get and who might take it away!

  125. 125

We used to have a tradition of a birthday cake to celebrate Christ’s birth in the morning but we got too sugared out! Now we will do that on Christmas Eve instead. We like to open stockings then gifts and usually we have to quickly head out to see family- this year we hope to stick around for a bit! Import Grammy to NH!

  126. 126

We used to have a tradition of a birthday cake to celebrate Christ’s birth in the morning but we got too sugared out! Now we will do that on Christmas Eve instead. We still fall asleep to Claire Bloom’s story of the Nutcracker on CD (loud to cover the sound of Santa) in our new pjs.

  127. 127

i have a godson that is getting harder to buy for every year but this would freak him out completely!!! and make me the coolest godmother ever. πŸ™‚

we eat spaghetti on christmas eve. and this year we’re starting a new tradition..i’m making an advent calendar. we’re excited to introduce this to our daughters, ages 1 and 3.

  128. 128

This is great! My favorite Christmas morning tradition is hunting for the pickle in that someone has hidden in the Christmas tree. Whoever finds it gets an extra “pickle present.” πŸ™‚

  129. 129

    Wouldn’t it be funny if…

  130. 130

I would love stuff from Gamestop. We have a Playstation, and would love the new move stuff as well.

  131. 131

My children are wii obsessed so we would have much to buy at Gamestop!

Love hearing about the holiday traditions. We always drive around on xmas eve and look at the lights.

  132. 132

Right now all of my siblings and I are in some level of college or another and we’re all WAY too poor to buy each other presents. So for the past 2 years, and in the foreseeable future, we’re having a no-presents Christmas. Although I miss getting gifts, it has been SO refreshing to not have to worry about money, or pleasing anyone, or getting shopping done in time. I think it’s made our Christmases even better than before. I’m not sure if we’ll start giving presents again when we’re out of college, but for right now I’m always grateful to have an amazing breakfast (eating sooo much bacon) with 5 people that I love!

  133. 133

Our Christmas morning tradition is coffee cake while we open gifts then playing with new toys and eat a big breakfast.

  134. 134

Our Christmas dinner was always homemade ravioli. Dad always had to check the tree first before my brother and I could go in – Just to make sure that Santa had come!

  135. 135

I would love to visit a warm place for Christmas!

I’m sure it ties into multiple questions…my wish for Christmas would be: For me to be able to spend quality time with my family, without the following: a.Being awake for 36 + hours (after having worked night shift, before having to go back in for night shift) b. mom and or dad hating on eachother c. (directly related to b)being able to make them ALL come to my house so all I have to do is entertain, and not travel across the tri-county area…

  146. 146

    excellent giveaway!

My favorite Christmas tradition is cooking! My mom, sister and I set aside 2 days in December to bake and cook the Christmas foods my grandmothers made. One day to make Swedish pepparkakor cookies for Christmas Eve smorgasbord and one day to make Polish pierogies for Christmas Day dinner. Our kids join in and help too!

  148. I love making sugar cookies with my kids and seeing the 1″ of frosting and sprinkles on cookies. It always grosses me out that they eat it and yet love it all at the same time.

  149. 149

My sister and I have started a tradition with my almost- five- year old these past couple of years- we spend a whole day making our Christmas cookies(only made at this time of year..ginderbread men, lukkens and frosted cashew drops..) Cooking together is always bonding time:)

  150. 150

There are many ways to enjoy the holidays without spending a ton of money. We go ice skating on local ponds, watch Christmas movies and bake, bake, bake (and eat!)!! And I loved celebrating Hanukah at my best friend’s house. My favorite holiday memories are of decorating the tree and snuggling up on the couch with hot chocolate and my siblings. I hope my own children take away similar cherished memories.

    Let the holiday season begin!

  151. 151

    Ooo! Yes please!

Ha ha i totally remember aunt phylis’s addiction to zelda. I would always brag to my friends that my aunt could school them. Now that we have retired the old nintendo….we love our playstation guitar hero. Christmas 09 we played for like 10 hours straight with my sister and her hubby. We too would love the game stop $. We could get the whole rock band and everyone could play!

  153. 153

Oh. My. Goodness. This gift card would make my daughter and son sooooo happy! Well…and me too. It would save me some serious money. BTW…love you website!

  154. 154

Christmas will be a bit bittersweet this year. I’ll be with my boyfriend’s loving family and missing my own. All part of growing up I guess!

The giftcard would truly be a Christmas miracle. My boyfriend moved with me to LA (the state) and is having a tough time with finding employment. Our Christmas may be meager but we are certainly blessed to have each other. πŸ™‚

This year’s Christmas wish is to help my family focus on serving others this season. There are so many people with far less than we have, and I am hoping to help my children realize their own blessings by helping others this year. Our own traditions include gingerbread houses and lots of yummy treats. Christmas we love to put together a big puzzle, play games, go on a Christmas drive to see the lights, and then cuddle up to watch a movie together! Can’t wait!!!

  161. 161

I would be so excited if I won the gift card! πŸ™‚

  172. 172

Oh man! I would love to win this!!

  173. 173

Hey Jane -I’ve got an 11-year old boy- so you KNOW he could make quick work of a Gamestop card.

I loved your comment about cooking as a way to celebrate the season without spending so much money. I have been kind of worrying, but you know, it’s not about the shopping/money. It IS about getting down the Christmas books (I have a 2 year-old too), watching Christmas cartoons and hanging together. Happy holidays!

  174. 174
    Auntie Barb

    Fingers crossed!

  175. 175

My grandson is getting a playstation this year. It was suggested to get him something accordingly. This fits the ticket!!

Without a doubt, the best game to play with the family is Spoons. Depending on how competitive your family is (mine is downright ruthless) it can be a really active game. Plus, who wouldn’t love to see their Aunt Sally singing “You Are My Sunshine” under the kitchen table!

  179. 179
    Kim in sunny AZ

I would love a chance to win – electronics are the main wishes from my boys but not really in the budget this year. Thanks for the chance to win. πŸ™‚

Just discovered your blog… Loving it and now hoping to also be a winner!!!

  181. 181

We try really hard to keep the board games out at our house. This past weekend we got our 7 year old hooked on UNO…one that I played as a kid. However, our 12 year old
is wishing and hoping Santa will bring him a PS3 so the opportunity to win this card is just incredible. Thanks!

This is awesome Jane, Rowan would LOVE a gift card from Game Stop! My wish list for the family this Christmas is for us all to be together and make the most of the time we have around the holidays. I can’t wait to see everyone as well as be back in my home town. <3 Ali

GameStop? How cool. Video games are a great way to get the family together…

  185. 185
    Angela Newby

My mom does the twelve days of Christmas, which I will continue on when we have kids. I know get to be the elf and shop for our gifts (myself, my sister, and my husband).

The only rule, you have to sing hte song before you open the present!

  186. 186

I’d LOVE this giftcard for my husband. Also… for me. I’d like a Kinect for the Xbox and Dance Central. Those would be so fun for us. And of course, another year of Xbox Live.

  189. 189

Would love to win this! Our family always played Yahtzee growing up. I’m sure there will be some matches when we go there in December!

  190. 190

My holiday wish for my family is that we have a beautiful Christmas forming new traditions. I HATE change and this year is the first year ever we’ll be celebrating Christmas away from my parents’ house. However, I’m totally lucky because we’ll still ALL be together at my sister and bro-in-law’s apartment. I can’t complain, but I will miss waking up in my parents’ house on Christmas πŸ™‚ Happy holidays! Can’t believe this time of year is already here!

  191. 191

Maybe there is a new game out there to get addicted to – beyond Angry Birds (that I have to admit makes me pretty angry sometimes!)

Bring on the Swedish ham & opening pajamas on Christmas Eve… still a big deal at our house!

  192. 192
    Lauren Donnell

I wish for my family to be happy and worry free through this holiday season. Easier said than done!

    I love this blog!

  193. 193

Ooh, would love some games, like Beatles Rock band. I seem to have started a few traditions w/o realizing it…seeing Santastic at the Retro Dome, jammies for the kids (I think Donovan will still be wearing his 4YO santa ones when he’s 15) and last year had a little hannukah get together. I’ve been banned from my my tradition of bringing dreidels to school (no holiday celebrations, wtf?).

When we’re home the kids get up early then wait and wait and wait for daddy to get up. We’re away a lot, and I’ve been known to run in right before we leave or before the kids get in the house to put the gifts from Santa there.

I remember playing Monopoly, and my dad would steal from the bank, and with Risk my mom blowing a hair off the board – doh!

  194. 194

My kids would LOVE LOVE LOVE if I won this!! πŸ˜€

  195. 195

What a great giveaway!! I’d love to get the Kinect to work off all of these holiday treats I’ve been eating!

  196. 196
    Kevin Wilkins

This is such an awesome prize. My kids would absolutlely fall out if I won this.

  197. 197

My most decadent wish would be a new GM Acadia – pearl white in color – gray leather interior, double sun roof overhead, heated leather seats for these cold Idaho mornings, and equipped with satellite radio… Is that too much for a girl whose children have outgrown the family minivan to ask??? haha

  198. 198

My husband would love it if I won this contest!

  199. 199

Just discovered your website from Iowagirleats and would love to get this. We could use some new games for our Wii

  200. 200

My kids could spend that gift in less than an minute πŸ™‚ Happy Holidays!!

  201. 201
    Amy W

I could do some pretty awesome things with a giftcard to Game Stop. I hope I win!

  202. 202

We are a game playing family and would love to add a couple new Wii games to our collection!

  203. 203

Oh MY, would I be a popular gifter this year with this give-away!

  204. 204

One of our traditions is ‘Christmas jammies’, too! I actually thought it was a rare thing until I went to college and found out that a lot of families do that. my mom is still in charge of buying them for us, and if we’re not together for the holidays she makes sure to mail them to us. it’s not Christmas Eve without those jammies!

Also, my husband would LOVE a Gamestop gift card.

  205. 205

Honestly, I don’t think I could EVER not spend Christmas at “home”. Since I’m not married, I don’t have to have the argument but when the day comes (and if it ever does), it’s going to be very hard to compromise on that.

  206. 206

    3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?

An Ireland castle tour by horseback! I’d get to travel, which I love, via horse which I love, and have an amazing chance to capture memories via my camera which I’m learning to love πŸ™‚

  207. Xmas day..get up and have immediate family xmas, breakfast at my parent’s house and then back to their house for late lunch.

  208. 208
    Jess S

    3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?
A vacation!! My hubby is in med school and I’m finishing up my PhD while teaching full-time. What we wouldn’t give to go lay on a beach somewhere!
Although if I could win this giftcard and get hubby a PS3, he’d be happy to never leave the house again!

    K. Rock

    What a great giveaway. Thanks!!

  210. 210

My family would LOVE a gamestop gift card!

  211. 211

Santa would love help from gamestop!

  212. 212
    Kristin B.

My holiday wish for my family would be for my kids not to have lice at Christmas like they did last year!!

  213. 213

Fantastic giveaway! Our no-spend Christmas memory is decorating the tree. We put on the same holiday music CDs every year, groan at the same awful songs, and slowly work our way down through the ornament boxes. We haven’t bought new ornaments in years, so they’re full of memories.

  214. 214
    Hannah W.

My family’s recent holiday tradition is to go eat dimsum on Christmas (and Thanksgiving!) morning. It’s a fun, communal way to eat together and just enjoy food and good company. πŸ™‚

  215. 215
    Ben M.

I love Christmas for my family, and gifts make up about 1% of what I love about it.

  216. 216

I didn’t know what GameStop was before this post- now I am acquainted. Thanks!

  217. 217
    Jean von B

We always have DeeDee’s Coffee Cake on Xmas morning (a tradition from my husband’s family), open gifts, and basically eat all day. This year my husband and my oldest have to work on both Xmas Eve and Xmas day so it will be strange but I’ll make sure they both have plenty of goodies when they get home!

  218. 218

My husband is deployed and won’t be home for Christmas for the first time, so I’m just hoping we get through it. We at least have Skype, which will help a ton. I’d love to surprise him with something from GameStop when he gets home. Thanks for doing this giveaway. πŸ™‚

  219. 219

    1. What is your holiday wish for your family?
that we don’t get sucked into the commercialism and focus on each other.

    2. What is your Christmas morning tradition?
mass and getting the house ready for guests.

    3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?
a houseful of furniture from pottery barn!

    4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money?
making handmade gifts! it’s the thought that really counts!

    8. Check out GameStop and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year?
we have the wii so it would be “zumba fitness: join the party, wii fit plus with balance board, and just dance 2!”

  220. My kids and husband would looove this! We have a wii and ps3, so I think my husband would save it for infamous 2, uncharted 3, and zelda. We love Zelda in our house too.

  221. 221

My holiday wish for my family is that all of us be together on Christmas. After all, the holidays are about spending time with one another enjoying eachother’s company, having fun, and giving from your heart. This to me is what Christmas is all about!
This game card would be such a wonderful gift. I would use it to purchase a few games for our family so that all the kids and adults could play. The rest I would use towards our church’s Toy Drive for Children.
Merry Christmas & Happy Hannakuh Everyone!!!

  222. 222

One thing that would be great to get with this giftcard would be the kinect for xbox 360, definitely looks like a great game for the whole family to play.

  223. 223

My husband’s family always had biscuits & gravy (sausage gravy) on Christmas morning. But, I am not a sausage lover, and he doesn’t require that we have that and he enjoys it when his mom makes it and we are there. Hmm. We could find a way to enjoy this giftcard, thanks for the chance to win it!

  224. 224

a decadent wish for myself would be an ipad…sadly, that won’t be happening for a long, long time!

  225. 225

I love the Christmas holiday…it is definatly my favorite time of year. We always get pajamas from the parents every Christmas as well!! The Gamestop gift card would be an amzaing win, because it would help me out in my Christmas shopping so much!

  226. 226

My favorite Christmas Eve memories are making homemade fudge and divinity (different colors, some with pecans from Grandmas’ pecan orchard), then after dinner each kid in our family (6 of us) would get to choose a person to take candy and carol to…it was pretty funny none of may family can carry a tune to save our lives!!! At least we left everyone with yummy treats!

  227. 227

    ooooh, I completely miss this….

Well first of all on Christmas morning the kids wake Paul and I up at the crack of dawn and then I have to go and check to see if Santa came (and then we quickly run upstairs to get coffee, built in coffee maker on 3rd floor in man room) and then we all go down in our jammies and start opening gifts. We keep our jammies on all day, our neighbors come over for dinner, in their jammies if they want and we have a pleasant evening playing with our new toys.

The one thing I really really want this year is a unicycle. I’m fairly sure Santa has already gotten if for me since I opened the box and saw it! LOL Of course ‘Santa’ also got me a book on how to ride a unicycle, because from what I can derive from my husband, ‘Santa” thinks I’m going to break my arm the very first day. My husband even laughed when I asked him about the book. In time I’m going to be a really great unicycle rider, for sure. I may even have to show off my skills on a you tube video! LOL

  228. 228

i love the tradition of all things standing still for just one day. stores are closed, business pauses and everyone enjoys family & friends for one peaceful day. it’s heaven!
