Pregnancy Cravings!

When I was pregnant with Cate, all I wanted were McDonald’s cheeseburgers. No fries, no drink, just the plain old {not so great} cheeseburger. For this pregnancy the big craving is Froot Loops. I know, I know. SO healthy. Why can’t I crave kale or walnuts? No, it’s Froot Loops.

My goal with this photo was to make Froot Loops look beautiful and gourmet.

Needless to say my girls are more than happy when I give into this new craving. And, since I don’t really want them eating Froot Loops all that often, I’ve forced myself to resist buying them…most of the time. As you can see, we all had a bowl of Froot Loops this morning. And, let me tell you, it was delicious!

P.S. Trix are gross. They were on sale and I tried them thinking it might quench the craving. I couldn’t even finish the bowl. Luckily the girls don’t have such a refined palette as mine, so the Trix didn’t go to waste.

I am also currently craving red meat. I found out yesterday I’m super anemic (yea for me), so the red meat craving actually makes sense. Still trying to figure out what exactly in Froot Loops my body is needing. I must be low on artificial coloring.

Okay, I want to hear your crazy pregnancy food cravings. If you’ve been pregnant, fess up with your hankerings! If you haven’t been pregnant, I’m sure you’ve known pregnant people with cravings. Please share them! If all the cravings end up being super healthy foods, I may be forced to delete your comments. πŸ˜‰

  1. I craved red Icees with my first pregnancy. My husband tried bringing me a slushee – definitely not the same as an Icee. With the second pregnancy, I craved turkey sandwiches from the cafeteria at the VA Hospital I was working in at the time. Pretty icky, but it was a craving that had to be met at least once per week.

I would have to say cake batter frozen yogurt, or red velvet flavored frozen yogurt. thank god its lowfat! oh, and a banana split! and I havn’t eaten any kind of sugar in over 3 months. guess this restriction is going out the window.

Those cereals are Chock full o’ spray on vitamins/minerals!!!
Almost as good as a pre-natal vitamin?!

    • Jane Maynard

that’s it! the Froot Loops are my prenatal vitamin. Why didn’t I think of that before? It all is so clear now… πŸ™‚

  4. I totally know what you mean about the McDonald’s cheeseburgers. WHY ARE THEY SO GOOD RIGHT NOW? They’re not even food! Fortunately some of my more questionable cravings (cheezies, tartar sauce, jelly doughnuts, cream soda slushies) are somewhat mitigated by a ravenous desire for watermelon, strawberries, avocado, tomatoes, and canned peaches.

I had a craving for anything spicy! I ate jalapenos out of the jar and hot sauce on everything. I also recall eating a grilled cheese with tomato, mayo and ketchup (YUCK) and I drank a TON of chocolate milk. I also wanted sushi too, so I stuck to California rolls or any roll with cooked meat or none at all..which was hard!

    Vicki

McD’s cheeseburgers must be common because that’s what I craved with my first. Didn’t really have any cravings with my second but this time around I could eat a veggie sub on flatbread from Subway for every meal I think!

  7. 7

When I was pregnant with my daughter I craved Dr. Pepper constantly. The weird thing was I was never a fan of Dr. P until then!

    • Jane Maynard

I think I didn’t really believe in cravings before…but this very fact that something you hate or don’t like normally becomes a craving changed my mind! it’s very strange…

  8. 8
    Kimmie S

I am currently pregnant and can’t get enough hot n’ sour soup! Last pregnancy I craved Qdoba chicken queso burritos.

  9. 9
    abby

With my first I wanted home cooking..vegitables. Mashed potatoes, green beans soaked in bacon, mac n cheese, and banana splits. She was a girl. The second I only wanted chicken wings. I had never eatten a chicken wing before in my life and I couldn’t get enough of them! Not suprisingly that baby was a boy!

  10. I binged on soft summer fruits: plums, peaches, nectarines and melons.

But all was not Eden-like sweetness and whole foods: I also craved crappy, HFCS-laden frozen yogurt. And I was desperate for strong, caffeinated coffee, booze and (shameful, guilty pleasure) Diet Coke–all 100% eschewed, of course.

I can see fruity/sweet parallels between some of my cravings and yours. You could try eating more sweet fruits. But if I were you I would not feel in the least bit guilty for chowing down the Fruit Loops–with organic milk, of course.

    • Jane Maynard

I am in fact using organic milk. so, I’m good to go. bring on the froot loops! πŸ™‚

  11. With my son I was CONSTANTLY craving hot wings. I mean, it was a craving morning, noon and night. It wasn’t so much fun when I had heartburn, but Prevacid + hot wings worked out beautifully.

With my daughter, it was chocolate and lots of chocolate. I laugh, because I’ll have a piece here and there, but I’m not a huge chocolate fan (if I never had another piece, I’d be okay…I’d miss it but not horribly). So, my need for a near constant chocolate iv was quite funny.

Ironically, my son LOVE spicy and salty foods. The girl, sweets.

    • Jane Maynard

looks like you permanently affected their developing taste buds! love it! πŸ™‚

  12. 12
    Liddia

With my first pregnancy, I wanted Oj..but only the Minute Maid stuff in the giant orange conatiner, and mashed potatoes. My daughter hates potatoes now…I dont know how that is possible.
With my second pregnancy, I wanted sweet. Mainly chocolate cake. That would explain the 40 lb weight gain.
With this pregnancy, I want strawberries. Yummy, juicy, fat strawberries. Know the weirdest part? I hate strawberries. Hate them!! That is, until now. Now I can’t get enough!

  13. 13
    Candice

The weirdest craving was with my son. 1-2 Grapefruits everyday! We bought them by the 10 pound bag.

  14. 14
    Jane Maynard

    some common themes emerging here…

    – McDonald’s cheeseburgers (glad I’m not alone!)
    – Spicy food (how does that work with the pregnancy heartburn I wonder? tough ladies!)
    – Pregnant crave things you never want to eat any other time in your life

keep it coming – seriously LOVE all these comments – they’re cracking me up!

  15. All I wanted was strawberries! Crates and crates of them πŸ™‚
We’d go to Costco, and as soon as they were washed, they were in my belly! Towards the end though, I wanted chocolate and sweets.

  16. 16
    Cate

I had some funny cravings during my first pregnancy! The top three were fried bologna sandwiches on Sara Lee honey wheat bread with lots of French’s yellow mustard. My poor husband can’t stand the smell of fried bologna now! I also craved 100% cranberry juice (we went through several bottles a week) and my mother-in-law’s hot home-canned salsa with tortilla chips. Just her salsa will do!

I also developed a taste for chocolate, which I’d never really liked before.

I’m only 6 weeks into my second pregnancy, so we’ll see which funny cravings appear, but I will say that so far I have little to no desire for sweets…just salty things and meat!

    • You totally reminded me of my other craving during my first pregnancy – liverwurst sandwiches! I would get one at least every week with extra mustard. Oh how funny.

  17. The 2 that I remember most were Red Robin’s bottomless fries and Fritos. Oh! And California Rolls, too. Nothing sweet which is odd cuz my sweet tooth is normally out of control!

  18. With my first, it was sweets all the way, especially Kit Kats. I could have eaten a couple of Kit Kats every day and not gotten sick of them. I didn’t! But I wanted to. Pregnancy number two was also big on sweets, but this time it included Jamba Juice smoothies and pepper. The pepper was so bizarre to me because before I had absolutely hated it, but all of a sudden I loved it and would put it on everything. The craving for it went away, but I still like it in normal amounts now. πŸ™‚ I’m on my third pregnancy and I finally hit the jack-pot – I’ve been craving lettuce and tomatoes specifically, and lots of fresh fruit and veggies in general. Also very bizarre to me in comparison to me other cravings, but I’m appreciating how much healthier I feel!

  19. 19
    Nicole Beckstrand

With Ella, it was orange juice and strawberry ice cream. With Aiden, it was meat and blue cheese, which I hated before! Crazy-making!

  20. 20
    Kate

Rootbeer floats. I could have one with each meal or snack I eat! I don’t normally drink soda but I cannot get enough of these lately!

  21. 21
    Mawa

I hate to admit this but mine was dirt – all three pregnancies….

    • That could have been an anemia thing, actually.

    • Jane Maynard

mawa is actually my mom…so I’m thinking it very well could have been anemia, since I’m her daughter, seems like it could be genetic! thankfully for me I’ve never craved dirt… πŸ˜‰

    • ae

It’s actually called pica. I had that too.
My cousin craved frozen snickers and jars of capers– together during her first pregnancy; and Pepsi [not Coke] during her second. Poor thing!

  22. 22
    Jami

My first I craved McDonald’s McChicken sandwiches and the second I craved fruit and veggies. What is funny is that the oldest LOVES chicken nuggets and the second could eat fruit all day long.

  23. 23
    kristen

Cottage cheese with tabasco sauce, and pineapple. I normally don’t eat much of either of those foods…

  24. 24
    Danielle D.

Kool-aid! I wanted it so badly I ran into a gas station while my husband was pumping gas and bought those little kool-aid squeeze bottles. Then bought 4 packs of mix at the grocery store. Once I drank it, I was done with it. Haven’t wanted it since.

Milk! I can’t seem to drink enough.

    • Jane Maynard

that’s so funny – the first half of this pregnancy (mostly when I was sick) I would crave something desperately (for example, a cheesesteak), and then once I had it once I was done! that happened a lot and I totally forgot until I read your comment! πŸ™‚

  25. 25
    kidkopf

    Good topic!

First pregnancy–anything cheesey! Grilled, mac n, melted on…it was all good.

Second pregnancy–Sweet/salty combo–trail mix, kettle corn etc.

Unfortunately, all HIGH-cal categories for me. πŸ™‚

  26. 26
    Shelley

I craved carbs, carbs, carbs. I at tonss of pasta, cereal and bread when I was pregnant.

  27. 27
    Stella

With my first it was Fettuccine Alfredo and grape soda. With my second is was dill pickles dipped in maple syrup with pancakes.
With this pregnancy it’s been all over the place! I have to say I share in the Fruit Loops love right now and YES TRIX ARE GROSS! Milk does a number on me so I’ve had to curb my Fruit Loops and almost all cereal cravings!
Within the past two weeks it’s been Turkey pastrami with swiss cheese on rye dipped in 1000 island dressing. SO GOOD!!

  28. 28
    Elizabeth

With my son – Lemonade! Like crazy, I’d buy four or five gallons at a time from the store.

With my daughter – Taco Bell, and I usually hate fast food.

Now I’m pregnant w/ #3 (boy) and it’s all spicy food (no sweet, no way!). The strangest one was when I wanted refried beans from Poquito Mas (a taco stand chain in LA). No tacos, quesadillas, anything else – JUST the refried beans. And they had to be from this particular place. So weird.

I’m also craving red meat and my husband is taking me for burgers tonight. Thank goodness!

During my first pregnancy I ate lots of Quaker Oatmeal Squares, good thing they sold it at Costco. That cereal was my meal 2-3 times a day for almost 2 weeks during part of my pregnancy. The rest of the time it was a snack or just breakfast. I do remember that I couldn’t stand scrambled eggs that pregnancy, fried was fine. My husband made a mother’s day quiche and it took everything in me to choke down a bite before I just said “too bad” and ate my cereal instead. Pregnancy #2 (which ended 3 months ago) I loved eating mexican food and lots of chips and salsa. Luckily I don’t get heartburn. During months 7 and 8 I think I had a McDouble every week and the last month I would have 2-3 a week, sometimes a 4th. I didn’t gain lots of weight, but the baby came out at 9 lb. 3 oz.

I’m pregnant right now too! Chocolate chip pancakes are my absolutely weakness (with butter & syrup of course!)… I am trying to cut back, wish me luck!! haha.

    Angie .

All my grandmother wanted to eat when she was pregnant with my dad was watermelon. She ate tons of it!! My dad can’t stand watermelon… lol. And all I craved was cherry tomatoes and pepperocini with ranch, and a side of cottage cheese… weird.

  32. 32
    Erika B.

All I wanted to eat was Ming’s Chinese Chicken Salad with a spicy dressing and Grape Nuts cereal. Fruit Loops are way cooler than Grape Nuts!

  33. 33
    Jennifer Yeomans

I craved Fruit Loops with my first. Actually I craved all the foods that I use to like when I was a kid. Eggo Waffles, Toast with butter and brown sugar etc.

With my second it was oranges and orange juice.

  34. 34
    jenn3250

I could not get enough rice krispies, watermelon, and tacos!

    • Jane Maynard

all these comments are reminding me of things about my own cravings…so funny!

my first pregnancy krispies were one of the only things I could eat for weeks! and I ate them at all times of the day and night πŸ™‚

Arby’s sandwiches. Although I rarely indulged the craving, I would map out all the Arby’s along my commute, just in case. And I never wanted anything sweet, just savories.

  36. I haven’t thought about this in a long time, but I do remember feeling awful the first three months and craving dry Cheerios and gallons of grapefruit juice — which is definitely not something one would normally feed a queasy stomach. When I progressed to the second trimester, which was defined by chronic heartburn, whether I ate or not, all I wanted was pizza, Mexican food and salad. During the third trimester, Grant apparently had his feet firmly planted in my esophagus and one bite of anything was agony. The only thing I could not tolerate for nine long months was coffee — gross! I delivered at 5:32 a.m. and even though I had a spinal and was to remain flat on my back for hours, I convinced the nurses to let me drink coffee through a weirdly bent straw — aversion instantly gone!

  37. With my son I craved sweet tarts and the doc said that was okay, they had calcium in them. I think he was just trying to make me feel better. I also craved coca cola, which up until that point I seriously detested.

With my daughter it was chicken fried steak, anything peppermint and sour patch kids – not all at the same time, thank goodness.

  38. 38
    Amy

With my first daughter I wanted biscuits. And tortillas. As well as bread, bread and more bread. Pancakes… πŸ™‚

With my second daughter I wanted citrus. Oranges all the time. Orange juice by the huge glassfull. Fruit roll ups (which I deteste when not pregnant) were consumed in large quantities as well!

With both pregnancies I could NOT stand to be around any kind of poultry or eggs. Chicken wasn’t even allowed in the house. Thanksgiving was miserable both times around! I remember my husband made soup with a chicken stock base. I made him eat it on the porch… πŸ™‚

1st… Chinese food, Subway sandwiches, and jello chocolate pudding cups.
2nd… hamburgers. Only homemade on the grill. Jello pudding cups. (My husband actually suggested making it from the box?? To save money?? What the what?? NO! Had to be in the cup.)
    3rd… Strawberries. or Watermelon…

I love this post sooooo much. It made me feel better about myself. I secretly drove through the McD’s drive-thru a few too many times for cheeseburgers while I was pregnant. And just like you, only for the cheeseburgers. No fries, no drink, just cheeseburgers! Now that he’s three months old, I’m proud to say that I’ve broken that little habit pretty cleanly. Whew.

  41. 41

with my first pregnancy, I didn’t really have any strong cravings.
This pregnancy (only 4 more weeks to go!!), it’s been a few different things:

in the beginning it was tuna fish sandwiches
then it moved on to greasy, fatty foods
then it was PBJ’s and Bananas

    Right now it’s cold watermelon!

I am glad to see this because I had major cravings too w/ my 1st pregnancy. I could not get enough tapioca pudding! Weird!!! Not normally a fan but when I was pregnant w/ my 1st son I ate a great deal of TJs tapioca pudding. I also craved and could not get enough of TJs blueberry, cinnamon swirl bread! I also had to have an Aqui Cal-Mex (located in Willow Glen, Campbell and two other South Bay locations) chicken burrito w/ their delicious salsa! With my second pregnancy I craved healthier foods mostly strawberries. bananas, almond butter on grainy bread and really good granola w/ organic non-fat milk and good quality non-fat frozen yogurt. Which is why I only gained 30 lbs on my second pregnancy (our second baby boy is now 9 mos and I’ve lost all the weight!) and twice that w/ our 1st born son. P.s. chocolate covered power berries from TJs, I craved those w/ my 2nd pregnancy too. Have you tried those? Oh my, they are good!

  43. 43
    Barbara

I substituted milk for heavy cream, drinking glass after glass, I had a craving for chocolate, at least two bars a day. And Coke by the barrel: my daughter says it gave her an addiction for it!
My mom tells of going into town for that extra BBQ sausage, 5 minutes before dinner.
The females in our family always gained some 20 kilos of weight during a pregnancy, losing it again with no extra training or personal trainer, guess we have healthy genes and a normal dose of household chores did the rest.
BTW I used to love liver, as a child I suffered from anaemia and by doctor’s advice had to eat it raw (maybe this would help you?), cannot stand it any longer after the pregrancy.
Loved all the stories shared above, happy pregnancies, ladies!

I usually classify my pregnancies by what I can’t eat, my kids had food themes.
1 couldn’t eat sweets, chocolate made me physically I’ll, but I loved anything pickled and Japanese food. Good thing I was pregnant here. I did go on an egg salad sandwich bender though.
2 couldn’t stand meat. We had lots of beans and grains.
3 no dairy or high fat foods(incidentally the baby is allergic to dairy), but wanted spicy. I ate kimchee ramen three times a week. I wanted some good Tom kha gai, but never found it. I was so desperate for Thai that I bought a Thai cookbook. . I soaked my burritos in hot sauce. It was a tasty pregnancy. Oh, weird was craving cool whip, which they don’t have here argh!

Wonder what your next craving will be.

I didn’t have any bizarre or unusual or constant cravings when I was pregnant, I ate a fairly balanced, healthy diet, allowing myself to indulge in some junky-foods when really wanted but not going over-board.

I did have mega-killer heart-burn through a good part of the pregnancy though so I wonder if that helped kill any of the cravings I might have had….I had almost no morning sickness as well, I think due to the meds I was taking to help with the heart-burn.

Thankfully my 3 year old LOVES LOVES LOVES all kinds of fruits and veggies and is a very balanced, healthy eater….

Oh dear…your wishing to crave kale made me laugh. When I was preggers with my girl the only thing I wanted to eat was turnip greens, anything green really, spinach too but mostly the turnip greens. Since I was a transplant here to the beautiful state of NC from Chicago and not yet honed my skills as a super chef (it was still just in my mind) I had to get them from the local K & W Cafeteria….OMG! They were so good and I am not even sure as to why or what they did to them. I still to this day to not know the magical process that makes their turnip greens the best…I even went so far as to apply for a job there once about 6 years ago hoping to learn the secret…kind of like trying to learn the secret recipe at KFC. I guess I came off a little crazy or looked a little wild eyed because I didn’t get the job. Oh well I can still buy them there and I am always on the lookout for a good recipe so if you know one…have a heart…=) Oh…lastly, no worries….my girl still to this day wont eat anything green so maybe the baby wont be a fruit loop fiend…best wishes!

With the first child, mashed potatoes and gravy. As the pregnancy progressed, limes. I was mixing up lime slushees every night! With the second child, french fries.

My most memorable pregnancy cravings were gummy bears and giant sandwiches with salt and vinegar chips. I really thought I might give birth to a ham sandwich.

    KatieKate

I’ve only been pregnant once – but my cravings changed by trimester.
    1st: chips/toast/anything bland and salty
2nd: MEAT – especially in the mornings. I would get to work and crave a burger or steak. I made a big batch of meatballs, and would eat 2-3 each morning as part of breakfast (I figured they were healthier than bacon/sausage). There really aren’t any recipes for breakfast-type meatballs, so if you’re looking for something to create – go for it!
    3rd: Cookies and citrus.

  50. 50
    Alissa

too funny- i craved cap’n crunch w/berries! and really- does ANYONE ever end up craving kale?? (wow, i wish!)

Pretty sure anemia is a family thing. Im extremely anemic. I craved red meat bad. But the two odd cravings were chomping on ice (found out later, this is due to the anemia) and crisp bean taco time burritos. no wonder i gained 60 lbs!!!
Its been a year and i have had 1 crisp pinto bean burrito. just wasnt the same…it actually kinda grossed me out. Anyhow, just saying you may ended up turning against those froot loops but as for now…enjoy!

  52. 52

Chocolate milk! I started craving it about 5 months into my pregnancy. I would drink only a glass or two a day at first but the cravings were so bad and so relentless by the end of my pregnancy I was drinking faster than the cows could make it lol! I was downing between 3 and 4 liters a day…..a DAY ! that is an unnecessary amount of milk, for anyone! lol being pregnant turned me into a milkoholic. I’m happy to say however that since my son was born a year and a half ago…….I haven’t touched a drop!

  53. 53
    Susan

Mint chocolate chip ice cream…every single night for nine months.

  54. 54
    Nickie S.

1st pregnancy cravings were Reese’s Cup Blizzards and waffle fries from Chik-fil-A. This time around (week 34 and I’m done!!!)has been black beans, red meat (really only steak and that when we go out on date nights), and Rolo McFlurries. I have definitely eaten “healthier” this time around. Well, except for the new found Rolo McFlurries. πŸ™‚

  55. 55
    Helene

I craved popsicles (any flavour) which I HATE,in the winter no less, and V-8 juice. I drank gallons of the stuff.

  56. 56

i’m 17 weeks pregnant and all i want is fruit rollups. not gonna lie i had 4 today!

  57. 57
    TaraLP

I craved PB&J sandwiches with all three of my kids, but with my last pregnancy I also craved Cap’n Crunch Berries. There must be something about sugary cereals. I think this was mentioned before, but I would also just focus on it being full of vitamins and minerals πŸ™‚

  58. 58
    Heidi M

Chinese take-out and everything bagels with veggie cream cheese and slice cucumbers were my main cravings with son #1

Son #2 was popcorn. Well more like the stick of salted butter i HAD to add to the popcorn or it was “gross”. That craving never died…7 years later I still crave a huge bowl of popcorn smothered in butter every night πŸ™‚

  59. 59
    Megan

Pancakes- I saw a commercial for them from IHOP and it was on. Before that I was not a fan of pancakes at all.
Everything Bagels with cream cheese- One was not enough. I had to have two
Crunchy Chicken Tacos with lots of hot sauce from a little taco shop on my way to the office. Again had to have two
    Pineapples
    Cara Cara Navel Oranges
Rueben Sandwiches with tons of thousand island

Before getting pregnant I liked food but never had to much of an appetite. Food tastes so much better when you are pregnant.

  60. 60
    Julie

I’m pregnant now, at first McDonald’s Cheeseburgers! Then ice cream mainly chocolate flavors in a cone, now I want fruit but I still want ice cream preferably with cake on the side. πŸ™‚

  61. When I was pregnant, I mostly had aversions (lost 15 lbs my first trimester, and was sick all 9 months.) But, weeks 4-6 before I got sick, all I wanted were Chipotle Chicken Burritos. Now my daughter is addicted to mexican food!

  62. I’m due in four weeks and I really haven’t craved anything too crazy. Early in my pregnancy I wanted sour gummy worms all the time (I never eat candy like this when I’m not pregnant). I realized it was the sweet/tart combo that I was craving, because strawberry preserves seems to do the trick, too!

  63. 63
    Doretta

When I got pregnant I craved the marshmallow candy Circus Peanuts and pickeled hot sausages. Not the best of mix for anything, but the sausages made up for how much my unborn child hated steaks(my favorite food.) But I will be anxious to find out what cravings I will have if I ever can complete a full term pregnancy. God blessed me with a 4month experience and the cravings were a lil treat. πŸ™‚ Hope your family is well. By the way Fruit Loops are the best especially the green ones.

  64. 64
    Amanda Bacon

Seems like chocolate milk is a theme! I craved it all the time with my son!!! I also craved Nacho Cheese Slim Jims…which now the sight of one makes me want to vomit. I also loved onions! Had to have onions on e v e r y single thing I ate!

  65. 65
    Margaret

Cheerios while drinking glasses of chocolate milk.

  66. When I was pregnant I craved fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Nothing tasted better in the entire world.

  67. 67
    Bridget

I never liked P.B. until I was pregnant and then that’s all I wanted to eat. I still dont like it not that I am not pregnant. I also gained like 80-100 lbs with my second cuz I only craved chocolate. everything chocolate. One of my kids I actually craved salad but only one out of the 5 lol

  68. 68
    Imani

That is so funny, of my three pregnancies I craved Fruit Loops during my last one – breakfast, lunch and dinner!

  69. Carnation Instant breakfast and cinnamon-sugar toast. Mmmmmm.

  70. 70
    Shelly

Circus Peanuts….the artificially bright, strangely banana flavored, sort-of marshmallowy ones. I tried so hard to deny myself because they have no actual nutritive value whatsoever. But, if I didn’t keep them on hand and have 1-2 a day, I dreamed about them…..or had nightmares about them. It’s tough to say which. They would dance around like the pink elephants in Dumbo.

  71. 71
    Courtney

With my first pregnancy (twin girls), I had morning sickness all day and sometimes nothing sounded good to me…except Taco Bell bean burritos with their mild taco sauce. I would go through the drive thru on a regular basis!
With my second pregnancy (another girl), I went through about a month in the middle where my evening snack was a pink grapefruit…every single night.

  72. 72
    Jodie

I love chocolate. However, during my pregnancy, I couldn’t even stand the sight of anything chocolate. Luckily???, my chocolate love came back after my son was born.

During my pregnancy I craved citrus fruits like crazy. Also had a lot of sweet pickles and swiss cheese smeared with peanut butter!

With my 1st child I also craved McD’s cheeseburgers (gag…) but another thing I *had* to have at least every other day was Pizza Hut breadsticks! There was a Pizza Hut right down the street from my house with a drive-thru. Every time a person ordered something, they asked your name (to ensure accuracy when picking it up). After a month of ordering breadsticks (and nothing else) so frequently they just automatically knew who I was. “I’d like to order some breadsticks, please.” “Is this Caroline?” “Uh… maybe… yes…” “That will be $4.98 at the first window please.” So pathetic! πŸ˜›

Pregnant with my first, I’ve been craving sugar candy and cheese. I’ve even had dreams about mac & cheese

My first pregnancy I wanted a Big Mac on multiple occasions. So much so that I thought I would try to be better and bought some Thousand Island dressing to make hamburgers at home. Not the same.

This pregnancy it is jalapenos. Fresh, jarred, whatever. My pinterest board is filled with jalapeno recipes and I think a legit dinner is making homemade baked jalapeno poppers.

I had to have the philly cheese steak from the little storefront in front of Lowes (Dominics). SOOOOOoooo good! Hilarious that we’d go to Lowe’s just for dinner. hah.

I’m 11w3d preggers and my cravings have changed some but three things that haven’t changed are pickles, brownies or chocolate cupcakes, and chips and salsa! I can’t get enough!! I bought a jar of salsa 3 days ago and it’s GONE! lol

With my 1st I only craved fried fish – and after I had her I developed a fish allergy. Crazy wierd. With my 2nd I craved any greasy hamburger I could get my hands on. (and he’s my healthiest eater) With my 3rd I craved watermelon, and now with the 4th it’s been cottage cheese and canned peaches.
It’s so strange how it’s been different with each one!

First daughter was cocoa puffs cereal and spaghetti-o’s (I know! Gross!)

    Second daughter was AMPM nachos!

First child (girl), I craved chocolate milk and sour cream and onion chips—YUCK! I haven’t eaten those chips since. Second child (girl), I craved spaghetti-O’s also. Glad to see someone else had that weird craving! πŸ™‚ Third child (boy) I craved MEAT and fruit (i.e.-especially strawberries). I made frozen strawberry jam and ate about every other strawberry I cleaned–not good!

chocolate milk shakes with my first, to put out the heartburn. Then later pimento cheese sandwiches, and I hate pimento cheese sandwiches. Couldn’t eat one now if I tried!!

  83. For my first, I ate only quarter pounders with cheese. That son is addicted to McDonalds (but doesn’t like cheese.)

For my second, I ate only Taco Bell super-spicy burritos. That son is addicted to both burritos and spicy foods.

With both pregnancies I often craved a big, juicy steak. But usually I was content with a cheap-o mcdonalds (not anywhere else) cheeseburger — those tiny diced onions and pickles make them so tasty.

But mostly I wanted melty, creamy ice cream ALL.THE.TIME. It was the craving that never went away.

I craved Mc D’s Cheeseburgers too. So strange! I would feel soooooooo bad eating them but I couldn’t stop myself.

I am new to this blog and LOVING it! My husband and I are trying to simplify our grocery shopping in order to spend less money and cut back on wasted food. I think you’re going to be a life saver!

Now to the cravings…With my first it was Cinnamon Toast Crunch. All the time. And lots of it!

With my current pregnancy it is CARBS, CARBS, and more CARBS. It sure makes it hard to eat a well-balanced diet!

I craved those little Banquet frozen pot pies (I don’t think I had eaten one since I was about 7 years old but I ate a ton of them) and PB & Banana Sandwiches on toast- not bread, had to be toast.

I’m late to the party but need to chime in! I’m so grateful that I never had true morning sickness with any of my three kids. But I did have a constant feeling of the tiniest bit of nausea all day and all night for nine months during each of my pregnancies. Sometimes I wonder which might be worse and always decide that I’m happy not to know. I cannot remember having cravings with #1 (girl) but I couldn’t stand the smell of any kind of fish entree or snack……. or zoo animals – elephants in particular. This was hard because I grew up in FL and would happily eat fish/seafood all day everyday. I have a special love affair with zoos and always seek out a city’s zoos wherever I roam. As long as I was content with the outdoor exhibits everything was peachy. I learned not to get anywhere near the door to any indoor animal house. I couldn’t exit fast enough! With #2 (boy) I craved Good and Plenty. Yum! I always loved black licorice (can’t even tolerate the smell of the red) but that wouldn’t do. It had to be Good and Plenty. It helped with the nausea. The G&P craving continued throughout #3 (boy) but I also required a Popsicle-like product that had a lemonade inner core surrounded by cherry or orange. We moved from Illinois to Minnesota a week after #3 was born and though I still craved these delicious ice creations, I never was able to find them in MN. #3 just got his driver’s license and I still wish I could get my hands on those delightful treats!

french fries dipped in cheese…the cheese that you get at ball parks with nachos. you know, the kind that doesn’t taste anything like cheese. can’t get enough.

this is my first pregnancy and i’ve been pretty sick, but if there is a chance for french fries (preferably with cheese in which to dip) or instant mashed potatoes, i am game!

I loved reading all of these! I’m pregnant with my first and just jumped into the 3rd trimester. I went through a week or two during my 1st trimester where I couldn’t get enough milk. I never drink milk but I would drink two HUGE glasses a day and LOVE it!

During my second, I craved red meat. My hubby was gone a lot during dinner so since I was tired and didn’t want to cook dinner for myself I would often grill up a hamburger on my george foreman grill and eat that. Sometimes I would make 2-3 a week…If I was too tired to make my own burgers I would either go to McDonald’s or Wendy’s…most of the time it was Wendy’s but sometimes the craving would just strike for a McDonald’s double cheeseburger…

Now that I’m in my 3rd trimester and it’s crazy hot and we don’t have AC, I crave just about anything cold. Ice cream, popsicles, frozen fruit, smoothies, frozen yogurt, watermelon, cold sodas or juice. I can’t get enough! I’ve craved watermelon straight through the pregnancy though…it helps that it’s summer.

For my daughter, it was lemon juice (straight out of the bottle, the kind you’re normally supposed to cook with) and peanut butter. I’m still trying to figure out what I’m craving for my current pregnancy!

I’m 15 weeks pregnant and eating a lot more variety now that I’m mostly over my all-day sickness. For the first two months it was agony, and all I wanted were salads, salad rolls, bananas, and veggie & California roll sushi. I couldn’t stand the smell of most cooking meats or poultry (especially chicken and turkey!), toasted sesame, or Indian foods (which I normally love).
Now I’m really craving fruit loops/fruity bunnies (I have a bowl every night before bed), blueberries (in my cereal every morning), and citrus. Oh, and lots of spicy goodness (Mexican food, salsa, sriracha) and saurkraut! As time goes on, it’s an ever-changing-flavor roller coaster ride.

These are too funny, crackin’ me up!! I am currently 4 months with my third. 1st- Yep, you guessed it. McDonalds. Quarter pounders with cheese… The double cheeseburgers were just too wimpy, LOL. Oranges, too, and mustard (which I normally HATE). 2nd- Captain Crunch, oranges, sausage or bacon. With this one, Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I swear I have 2 or 3 bowls everyday. Also eggs, cottage cheese (this also as chip dip??!! Lol!), Taco Bell, bananas, and peanut butter.

With my first pregnancy I craved greasy fast food,Wendy’s Bacon Cheese Burgers, Foxes Pizza and Wedgies, KFC Chicken, It was ridiculous because I would end up with the worst heartburn and still eat it.The good that came out of that is that I no longer want fast food in any shape or form.
I am now pregnant with my second child and am only 8 weeks along, my cravings are for nothing but salad and Italian dressing and also fruit any type of fruit looks so good to me as a matter of fact I am actually eating a salad and a cup of mandarin oranges as I sit here. So maybe I will end up with a boy this time since my cravings are so opposite never know : )

I have never I’m my life liked jalapenos, but for the last week or so I can’t seem to get enough of them. I shouldn’t be pregnant, I had my tubes tied almost 10 years ago. So is there any other reason I might suddenly crave them?

    • haha! let’s chalk it up to there must be a nutrient in them that your body is craving…but if you are miraculously pregnant, well, congrats?! πŸ˜‰

Raspberries with jalapeño cheddar dip. And chicken nuggets. The baby haaaates broccoli. Ehhh

  105. I guess it’s dairy, but for some reason I really want vanilla pudding, rice pudding (Kozy Shack!), or Cinnamon Toast crunch with 2% milk (I’m usually a 1% or skim kinda gal). Ugh, I feel like I’m just bulking up on empty calories and putting on weight like a toddler who’s about to go through a growth spurt!

I am on my first child, at first I craved jerky (I am anemic as well, so that is explained), and lays baked chips, now I want nothing but froot loops! Through out the pregnancy I’ve been craving fruit and yogurt… I actually googled froot loop cravings and came across this article! I love reading the cravings and comparing them to others I know. My friend craved bbq sauce, she put it on literally everything she ate. So far my cravings are to wild!
