Week 152 Post

Boring menu post this week. No picture. No cute stories. Just a bunch of sick people in the Maynard house. But that’s not going to stop me from getting a menu up on Sunday! Here goes…and here’s hoping we’re all pictures of health by Christmas Eve.

– Annual chili party at a friend’s home…if we’re not sick, that is! If we’re sick, I think I’ll just make chili anyways!

– Bistro chicken (I ended up not making it yet, but love it and can’t wait to have it this week! chicken breasts browned in a skillet, remove & cook 1/2 c chopped onions 5 min, add 1 14oz can diced tomatoes, italian seasoning, 1 can of Campbellโ€™s french onion soup, cook that together to reduce liquid 5 min, pour sauce over chicken in a casserole dish, add swiss cheese on top & bake for 20 min! I love this recipe โ€“ thanks to Jen Schulte! I like to serve with garlic mashed potatoes)

– Chinese Take-out (a Maynard Christmas Eve tradition)

Green Noodles (didn’t make this last week, either. basically I went to the grocery store with a very incomplete grocery list…I hope to plan better this week!)

    I figure I can post this week because I really only have to plan for a few days!

    S-Lentil soup, blueberry muffins
    M-Homemade pizza, fruit
    T-Bistro Chicken (I LOVE it–thanks much!)
    W-left overs
    Th-Layered Mexican dip (old Violette family tradition) OR Chinese (being considered as a new tradition. Kids are lobbying for their pick.)and French Cream Pies (a piece is left for Santa)
    F-HAM(my favorite), potatoes, spinach salad, cranberry salad, maybe cranberry slush (again, thank you!), dessert??
    S-left overs!!

    Well, this week I tried to keep is simple (even more simple than usual)… We are snowed in with over 2 feet of snow in the DC area, so basically we’re using what we’ve got in the house for now.

    Sunday- Chili Mac
    Monday- Spaghetti Pie (fortunately I bought ingreds last week and didn’t use them)
    Tuesday- Chicken Fingers, Mashed Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts
    Wednesday- Take Out
    Thursday- Out for dinner for my b-day, which happens to fall on Christmas
    Friday- Ham, Potatoes Au Gratin, Green Bean Casserole
    Saturday- Meatball Subs (big family get-together)
    Sunday- who knows! we gotta survive the holiday first!

  3. -Soft Tacos with Shredded Tex-Mex Crock-Pot Chicken
    -Broccoli Cheese Soup (didn’t make it last week)

    And then we’ll be at my mom’s. The only think I know from that is our Christmas menu (and that’s because I’m making it!)

    -Bacon Wrapped Herb Pork Tenderloin, Rosemary Roasted Potatoes, Balsamic Glazed Asparagus, Rustic Bread, and Flat Cranberry Apple Pie and/or Clementine Spice Cake

    Tuesday-baked sweet potatoes, pita with yogurt dip, bok choy
    Wednesday-holiday party food
    Thursday-something that goes with hot apple cider!
    Friday-giant ham dinner with family
    Saturday-leftovers (I hope)

    Monday: leftover chicken & rice soup – maybe I’ll make some fresh bread to go with it. (It always makes me feel a little better to serve something new with the leftovers.)
    Tuesday: Baked potatoes with chili
    Wednesday: Friend’s house for dinner
    Thursday: Homemade pizza at mom’s house (tradition)
    Friday: Grilled Steaks, other side dishes I’ll plan later
    Saturday: ???
    Sunday: It’s mom’s week to cook sunday dinner.

    We’re headed home for the holidays so I have no idea what we’re going to eat most nights.

    M – traveling. we’ll probably stop at in-n-out
    T – my sister’s b-day. i’m making homemade fettucini with alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, a salad and artichoke dip with chips. mom’s making brownies and peanut butter ice cream for dessert.
    W – dunno.
    T – Christmas Eve. mother-in-law’s fondue tradition
    F – Christmas – no clue
    S – dinner at an aunt’s house. probably take out
    S – no clue

    Thurs.-bacon wrapped chicken with cream cheese and chives,
    garlic mashed potatoes, salad(field greens with craisins, feta, sugared pecans and raspberry/onion viniagrette from Costco), rolls
    Fri.-beef rib roast with thyme/garlic rub, twice baked potatoes, salad, leftover rolls, maybe some chive butter to go with it.
    Sat.-yummy leftovers
    Sun.-don’t know

    Check out if you need more ideas. I do a weekly menu that corresponds with Arizona grocery ads. You don’t have to be an Arizonan to look at it though. Happy Holidays!

    It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! 3 days till Christmas!

    M- Sausage, Pepper, and Onion bake with Ricotta cheese and pasta
    T- Tuna Pasta or leftovers
    W- in Houston! probably sushi
    Th- we celebrate Christmas on the 24th, so we’ll do the ham, turkey, and ridiculous amount of sides.
    F- Standing rib roast
    S- Parents’ anniversary, dinner out somewhere

    Has anyone tried the bistro chicken with another cheese like mozzarella or cheddar? I bought everything to make the bistro chicken dish and then came back and realized I didn’t know to buy swiss cheese? Well, I’m going to try it anyway and see how it turns out.

    Thanks! I’ll let you know how it was. I’m not a big swiss fan anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you guys are feeling better. We just got our Christmas tree today since the kids had a nasty stomach bug and we kept waiting to get the tree together as a family. Thankfully, my husband finally decided to bring home a little tree just so we would have something.

    Saturday – lunch at inlaws being in Australia we have warm weather and have opted for a seafood selection entree – lobeter tails with herb butter sauce and garlic prawns Main – Coca cola ham (yum it melts in your mouth, salt and pepper squid, potato salad and a green salad Desset – Pavalova and lime tart Drinks – Craneberry and ruby red grapefruit punch and pineapple, banana, passionfruit and mint crushies
    Sunday – Leftovers

    I can’t wait for our feast on Saturday. Hope you all feel better soon. My family have been fighting off summer colds. Merry Christmas to all

    Feel better! This website is an inspiration to me. I just came across it two weeks ago.

    T-vodka sauce, tortellini, spaghetti for DD (she’s two and she only eats spaghetti, though I think I need to find something else that she’ll eat)

    On the Bistro Chicken question, I have used shredded cheddar before and my husband actually prefers it … I usually throw on whatever cheese I have, and it works!

    I have a plan and just realized I didn’t post it. Will put Monday too even though it’s already Tuesday!!

    Mon-oven ‘fried’ chicken legs, butter noodles, broccoli
    Tues-leftover stuffed peppers from the weekend
    Weds-easy apricot chicken (thank you for that one!), rice & salad
    Thurs-roast beef in the crockpot, green beans, biscuits
    Fri-full traditional Turkey dinner
    Sat-another biggie, other family coming so am doing the full ham deal this day, spiral sliced … yum
    Sun … and for the forseeable future … leftovers!
