Week 209 Menu

How about a puffed oven pancake for breakfast? Cate’s review this morning: “This is delicious!”

I never even made it to the grocery store last week – terrible! I suppose those crazy weeks happen (maybe more often than we like sometimes!). I’m going to force myself to go to the store TOMORROW. 🙂

Lettuce Wraps (carry-over from last week!)
– Dumplings

Sausage, Pepper & Onion Hoagies (we didn’t end up having them Friday night, but I still have a hankering!)
– Fresh fruit of some sort

Vegetarian Chickpea Burgers
– Homemade oven fries

– Leftovers

– Eat out

– Spaghetti or something equally as easy!

– Nate’s omelettes (he didn’t have to make these last week, but he’s not getting off that easy!)

  1. I have been planning weekly menus for years(& have kept all of them!!). I’m so glad to discover there are fellow planners out there!
    Sun – Thai Green Curry
    Mon – Sausage & Fennel Ragu with Penne
    Tue – Haggis, Neeps & Tatties (Burns Night)
    Wed – Shepherds Pie with new pots and veggies
    Thu – Salmon Kedgeree
    Fri – Spanish Tapas – Calamari, Prawns with lime, Empanadas (chorizo & cheese), crusty bread, anchovies, olives & Hummus
    Sat – Herb Salmon in Coconut Curry Sauce with rice

    • That’s a great idea to keep them! I am just beginning to put them on my blog each week too then I have an “archive” of weekly menus I can reuse! I love see everyone’s menus and getting inspiration! 🙂

      I write my menus on recipe cards with notes on the back for things to add to the grocery list. Each week I either choose an established card or write up a new one. The kids like choosing the menu for the week from the cards.

      Good ideas here. Wish I had kept mine. Sometime I need inspiration! I usually just write it out on little note papers, stick it up on the bulletin board then recycle it. Might have to start a separate notebook. 🙂

  2. I will be travelling for work this week so have the ingredients on hand for my husband to make the following for our 2 teenages (this could be a food fantasi as they may just eat pizza all week):
    Beef Stew with fruit
    Hamburgers and oven browned potatoes and fruit
    Spaghetti with garlic bread and salad
    Chicken Tacos
    Beef tenderloin with baked potatoes and salad.

    Mmm sounds so yummy! I’ve kind of tentatively assigned meals to weekdays this time to see how that works out.

    Sun: Pineapple Black bean enchiladas with salad
    Mon: Roast veggie and mozzarella paninis with salad
    Tues: Creamy pumpkin penne with salad
    Wed: Thai chicken pizza (we’re trying your recipe!)
    Thurs: Eat out or leftovers
    Fri: Tuna and spinach tortellini with roasted pears and butternut squash
    Sat: Tomato fennel soup with blood orange and grilled cheese sandwiches

    mon: pork chops…haven’t figured out what to do with them yet
    tues: kale, chickpea, and sausage soup
    weds: taco stuffed zucchini
    thurs: white chicken chili
    fri: white bean hash
    sat: crispy roasted chicken / celery root gratin

  7. Still up in the air on a few things:

    Sunday: Homemade pizza. Looks like olives and artichoke on whole wheat crust and chicken parm on a regular white crust.
    Monday: Mexican-style sopa de ajo.
    Tuesday: Breaded turkey breast cutlets with homemade honey mustard and a rice or quinoa side.
    Wednesday: Chicken. Unsure of how, but there will be chicken.
    Thursday: Wild card day. This could be soup (I have seafood chowder in the freezer) or pork. Depending on how the week goes, it could also be Chipotle takeout.
    Friday: Out.
    Saturday: I never know. I usually let the muse guide me on Saturdays.

  14. We have plowed through a lot of leftovers. Cooking is fun and I have felt so organized having a plan – but our fridge was getting ridiculously crammed with leftovers this week! Luckily, we finished off most of it today.
    Double menu plan…lunch…then dinner; more details over on my blog, but here it is.

    So, that meal that we coordinate for 70ish people was canceled last week. As a result we have 4 heads of shredded cabbage that we’re trying to work our way at least partially through. Cabbage is this week’s theme!

    Sunday – baked vegetable egg rolls and Asian coleslaw (two uses for cabbage there!)

    Tuesday – pulled pork tostadas (topped with cabbage of course)

    My boyfriend and I are both pretty busy in the evenings, so we tend to focus on breakfast and lunch. I’m vegetarian and he’s not, but I do all of the cooking, so he kind of is.

    Sun: Fried eggs with whole wheat toast, yogurt with fruit
    Vegan macaroni and cheese for dinner

    Mon: Breakfast pizza with eggs, bell pepper, green onions

    Tue: Vegetarian enchiladas with homemade refried black beans

    Wed: Dal with shallots and dried bean dumplings, rice, and roti (I make a looot of Indian food)

    Thurs: leftovers/ quick stir fry or fried rice

    Fri: eat out or Paneer Makhani (homemade cheese in tomato/chili/onion sauce)

    Sat: Indian breakfast with dosa, upma and chutneys

    • LOL Can you tell which 3 days my husband was away at work!!? I don’t usually put in too much effort for dinner when it’s just me & the 4 little mouths. Cooking’s so much more rewarding when it’s appreciated & frankly, they’re content with things from a box/the freezer & I enjoy the night off!

    I did this for the first time last week and it was so great to know that I had the groceries ready to make whatever was planned for the evening. I think I gained several hours of time over the week! So here goes week 2 of meal planning.

    Tue: Mahi mahi fish tacos
    Wed: Leftover Goat Biryani with Palak Paneer and naan

    I can’t believe no one’s commented on the puff pancake! We love “puff puff pancake”- I usually bake mine in round pie plates- in the past 2 plates were enough but with the boys hitting their teen years, they want their own… I still prepare a double recipe batch but split it 3 ways- sneaky mommy!

    Sunday: Black bean and Chorizo soup (I added a lowly diced sweet potato that needed to be used up), cornbread
    Monday: Hubby’s gone. BFD – maybe puff puff pancake???
    Tuesday: Kung Pao chicken wings, stirfried vegies, rice, eggrolls
    Wednesday: Hubby cooks. Swedish meatballs, noodles, mixed vegies
    Thursday: Hubby cooks. Ham steak, cheesy potatoes, green beans
    Friday: Bean and cheese burritos, chips and salsa, fruit

    I cannot tell a lie…I have not been sticking to menus well at all!
    This week is my determination week! I AM GOING TO DO IT!

    Monday- Bean burritos- going to the gym and food shopping so dinner needs to be quick and easy!

    Tuesday- Lightened Up Chicken Divan

    Wednesday- Slow Cooked Sweet Barbacoa Pork with rice- we’re supposed to be getting a snow storm so this will be PERFECT in the crock pot!!

    Friday- Pork fajita nachos

    Saturday- It’s my birthday! I think we’re going out for Portuguese food!!

    Tried a new strategy this week — usually I make the plan and then go to the store. My grocery bills have been really high lately, so I decided to go the other route and buy what’s on sale at the store and then make my meal plan from that. My grocery bill was about $40 cheaper… we’ll see if it was a fluke and just a light week on needed supplies!

    Sunday – spaghetti, garlic bread, salad
    Monday – pork tenderloin, roasted sweet potatoes, steam green beans
    Tuesday – breakfast for dinner – chocolate chip whole grain pancakes, bacon and fruit
    Wednesday – parmesan-crusted tilapia, wild rice and peas
    Thursday – chicken burritos (from freezer) with lettuce, tomatoes
    Friday – friendship soup, french bread
    Saturday – out with friends at scrapbooking retreat

    Tuesday is my oldest son’s 15th birthday, time flies! So our treat this week will be homemade butter cake with fudge icing, yummy! Unfortunately, both my son & my husband have a cold so….

    As odd as this is, I actually have both chicken and hamburger sitting in my refrigerator – DEFROSTED no less! Amazing! So, the entire week’s menu will revolve around those two items. I’m thinking meatloaf, chicken stir fry, chicken casserole, a night of leftover meatloaf sandwiches and a hot mug of soup and may be some chicken tacos (there’s a LOT of chicken in that pkg!)

    Funny that people have been talking about kale chips — we made them over the weekend and ate the whole batch in less than a day. Our kids love them. Can’t wait to whip up some more soon!

    p.s. I participated in a produce co-op for the first time this past week and got lots of fresh veggies and fruit. I was surprised at how much easier it made meal planning since I already had produce I was motivated to use up. Have you joined a CSA/co-op yet? Thoughts?

    I get organic produce delivered every other week. I find the same is true on meal planning. And, if I haven’t planned a specific veggie dish, it’s easy to whip something up. We tend to try to use them up and eat more fruit and veggies. It’s a great idea!

    Hi! My first Menu post… Been reading for a while now, and menu planning for a loooong time, but I finally decided to jump in!

    Mon- French Onion Soup Gratinee and Hericots Verts Salad
    Tue- Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Steamed Wontons
    Wed- Pan-Grilled Red Snapper with Chimichurri and Charred Veggie Rice
    Thurs- Lemon Tarragon Pork Chops, Roasted Acorn Squash and Green Beans (Leftover from the Hericots Verts Salad)
    Fri- Chicken Kiev over Linguine and Roasted Asparagus (Making Chicken Kiev for the first time!! Praying my butter does not seep out…)
    Sat& Sun- Wild card!! We usually eat out or grill on the weekends… just depends how we feel!

  55. Hi Jane! I recently found your blog and absolutely love your weekly menus. I’ve been planning out my weekly menus for almost a year now – I find that it’s the best way to ensure that I’m always trying my hand at new recipe ideas, and actually cooking when I get home from work (i.e., not taking the easy way out and always making the simplest thing that comes to mind or, worse yet, just ordering take-out all the time). Sitting down on Sunday morning and planning out our menu for the week really changed how we eat(and how much we enjoy it). Here’s what I’m making for dinner this week:

    Sunday: Creamy Mascarpone Polenta with Mushrooms (and I can report that this one was very yummy – will be posting about it this week @
    Monday: Rosemary White Bean Soup w/ Garlic Crostini
    Tuesday: Spicy Ginger Soba Noodles w/ Tofu
    Wednesday: Whole Wheat Pasta with Beet Greens & Currents
    Thursday: Tofu Stir-fry with Broccoli Rabe, Caramelized Onion & Lemon
    Friday & Saturday: Out on the town…

    Tuesday is becoming our grocery day and we typically don’t think about meals until right before…It’s not much of a meal plan either.

    Sunday – Out for delicious tacos
    Monday – I have class, so…Chipotle
    Tuesday – Leftovers
    Wednesday – Lemon Chicken
    Thursday – Cheesy Broccoli and Cauliflower Soup, Chicken Salad Sandwiches
    Friday – Leftovers?
    Saturday – Going to a play, so probably a nice restaurant

  64. This is actually my New Years Resolution after seeing my bank statements from 2010. I realized that I spent way too much money on takeout, now I’d rather spend the money on ingredients for home cooked meals.

    Sun – Leftover Turkey Chili
    Mon – Roasted Chicken w/Clementine’s & Dates with a side of sweet potato gratin
    Tues – Almond Crusted Halibut with a Mushroom Sauce over Spinach
    Wed – Curry Chicken with Roasted Red Pepper Quinoa
    Thurs – Mixed Cabbage Vegetable Soup
    Fri – Leftovers (this is also my designated takeout day)
    Sat – Bison Burgers with Tri-Colored Potato Wedges

  66. I do menu planning a TINY bit differently… I like to do a BIG grocery shop once every two weeks (with two kids, 5 and 2, in tow, it is all I can handle!). So, I develop at least a 10-meal menu which lasts us 2 weeks (with a milk and produce run squeezed in) including dining out and leftovers.
    Pabellon — traditional Venezuelan meal (my husband is Venezuelan)
    Baked ziti
    Chicken fajita soup
    Amber’s chicken bake
    Chicken enchilada casserole
    BBQ ranch chicken salad
    Tuna melts
    Italian meatballs
    Orange-cilantro black bean salad
    Pork roast, dumplings and gravy, saurkraut
    Chicken piccata
    Arepa (Venezuelan PB&J we have every Wednesday night before AWANA at church)
    I appreciate your website so much. I also keep all my menus but I rarely repeat recipes because I enjoy cooking so much. This has really helped me brainstorm and add new favorites to our menus! Thank you.
