Week 215 Menu

I think my favorite item fromย our first CSA bag this week were the kiwifruit. I don’t think I even realized there were kiwifruit growers in California. I’m grateful there are! Nate was dismayed to discover today that 5 of the 6 kiwifruit were “missing.” I just couldn’t help myself. I blame it on the fact they’re so healthy. I felt like I should be eating them uncontrollably. You know, for my health. Oh, I’m supposed to be worried about my family’s healthy too? Whoops.

I can’t believe it’s March already! For those of you still experiencing crazy winter weather, I’ll cross my fingers that, even though March may be coming in like a lion, it will in fact go out like a lamb for you!

– Lasagna

Asian Spinach Salad

Butternut Squash Soup (I’ll be getting a butternut squash and leeks in this week’s CSA bag…perfect!)

– Leftovers

Boursin Turkey Baguettes

– Eat out

– Leftovers or breakfast for dinner, depending on how many leftovers there are!

how do you do the copy cat chick fil a nuggets? I’m intrigued!

    • Melanie

I just googled copy cat chick-fil-a nuggets. The recipes say to fry them, but I’m going to bake instead. I’m sure that will affect them somewhat. However I don’t like to fry and I have another nugget recipe that I bake and it comes out fine.

  25. 25

I haven’t planned my menu yet but just wanted to say how excited I was when I saw your picture in my little Kroger magazine!!! A whole article with recipes by my favorite blogger, Jane Maynard!!!! Look at you gettin’ all famous! Congrats!

    • Jane Maynard

I haven’t seen it yet – that’s so fun you noticed! ๐Ÿ™‚ I”m excited about it, I saw a PDF of the spread and they did a nice job…I need to get my hands on it! ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks for commenting!

    • Jane Maynard

I have no ideas for turnips! I’m useless. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • OK….you can cook turnips just the way you cook potatoes for mashed potatoes; add some peeled apple to the water as you’re cooking them (you want about 1/3 apple, 2/3 turnips) and when everything is tender, drain it off and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Really good. You can also use turnips with sweet potatoes, in a mash or a gratin.

    • Jane Maynard

      mmmm, that sounds yummy!

    • Tamara

I just made a recipe where they acted like potatoes as well. This time alongside carrots and a roast. I hadn’t had them before and enjoyed the change.

My husband and I have been considering joining a CSA this year. I am glad to hear that you have been enjoying yours! We love kiwi too. I just made a super easy, totally awesome fruit salad: dice a couple of peeled kiwi and divide among bowls, peel a couple of oranges and divide sections among your bowls, then puree a cup of frozen (or fresh) strawberries with a little orange zest and put a couple tablespoons over each fruit cup. So yummy and refreshing. I had some leftover strawberry sauce that I used to top my ‘No Pudge’ brownies later in the week. Anyways…here’s week three of the 500 calorie dinner challege:

  51. Hi Jane,
Wouldn’t it be fun to run a few statistics on the most common meal everybody eats each week, posted from your site? I’ve been reading through the meal plans and some are very similar, so I’m curious on the “most common” dish your readers eat each week. Just “Food” for thought. (Pun intended.)

Thank you for sharing the Asian Salad recipe! It’s delicious! I don’t have time for dinners, but I do plan my lunch menu for the week to save $. This really mixed it up, and I already had most of the ingredients at home!
