Week 300 Menu

Wow! It’s my 300th menu on the blog! Let’s celebrate with whoopie pies!

This weekend I went to the DailyBuzz Food Festival and it was so much fun! I essentially enjoyed 24 hours of delicious food being handed to me. That’s my kind of weekend. Yesterday afternoon was the Taste Pavillion, where a room full of local and artisan food companies sharing their goodies. My friend Rachel went with me and we were absolutely stuffed by the end. One of our favorite tables was After Suppa, a couple just starting a whoopie pie company. You know Nate and I love whoopie pies and he’s gone to great effort to educate me about their wonderfulness, as well as what a real whoopie pie should be like. When we walked up to the After Suppa table, I had a good feeling about their whoopie pies. The whoopie pies looked legit. The company name had the word “supper” in it, with the R dropped off, no less. And, after talking with them (the couple, not the whoopie pies), we found out they were from New Hampshire and the woman’s grandparents who inspired the whoopie pies were from Maine. BINGO. As you can guess, the whoopie pies were fabulous! I wish After Suppa great success in their new endeavors! And I’m glad somebody is bringing real whoopie pies to California!

    I LOVE whoopie pies!……..but I think the best whoopie pies are baked by the Amish women in central Pennsylvania. I think their secret is lard. Once you eat an authentic Amish whoopie pie, there’s no turning back……..

    Grilled fish, mixed veggies, brown rice
    Bow tie pasta with parmesan sauce, shrimp, & peas
    Salmon cakes, green beans
    Pumpkin pancakes and scrambled eggs

      I love that you love the amish version, because I actually totally do NOT like the amish version! πŸ˜‰ the first time I had one was in PA amish country and I was not sold. so funny…but I can see why people WOULD love them. and maybe I need to give them another try!

    Starting this week I’m now a full-time SAHM but that means being pretty frugal with our menus to stretch our budget. Do you have any posts that deal with budget-friendly meals? Here’s the plan for this week

    Sun: Spaghetti and meatballs
    Mon: Broccoli quiche
    Tues: Pork stir fry and potstickers
    Wed: Squash soup
    Thurs: Baked potatoes with broccoli and cheese
    Fri: Chili
    Sat: Pulled pork sandwiches

    Whoopie pies are on my list of things to try when (if!) I ever make it back to the States. I can’t believe I spent two weeks in New England and didn’t come across one.

    Mon: Jambalaya
    Tue: Pasta with tomato sauce and salad
    Wed: Pizza, roasted cabbage slaw
    Thur: Turkey meatloaf, mashed potato, broccoli
    Fri: Baked haddock, roasted veg
    Sat: Leftover meatloaf
    Sun: Out with family

    S: Party for the people at work. Hors d’oeuvres by others and I’m roasting a turkey breast to carve for sandwiches.

    As a former New Yawka I can totally appreciate their use of the word Suppa….that is how I say supper!

    mon: Homemade Minestrone soup and bread. I love my minestrone recipe, it has pesto in it, yum!
    Tues: Crockpot orange hoisen chicken
    Wed: Chicken sandwiches and home baked french fries…totally cheating and using the Tyson breaded patties, some times ya just gotta!
    Thursday: Leftovers
    Friday: Party with a catered dinner
    Saturday: Out for happy hour and a play…yay, no cook weekend.

  22. Congrats on 300 menus!! Here’s to 300 more! We’re coming off a 4yo-birthday-party-high. SO much fun!! I’m out of town for work yet again. Grandma flew in to save the day. So, the family will survive in my absence (just barely, in my mind…. πŸ™‚ ).

    Sunday: M Shack (awesome chefs in town opened a gourmet burger joint at the beach…yum!)
    Monday – Wednesday: I’m out of town for work, but I know a trip to Cantina Laredo and Grandma’s beef/vegetable soup will be enjoyed!

      soooo…the only whoopie pies I’d had for a long time were of the amish variety, which are moister and the filling as marshmallow fluff. I personally do not like those, but there are lots of people who love them (see comment #2 above!)! the new england version are not quite so gooey. you need to try both and see what you think!
